Goselin in his article on the corners says that Hall is just as good as Newman... In fact, he implies that he's better, because he's younger and weighs 10 or so pounds more. He also says he's faster, which I say is baloney... Maybe Ahmad Carroll is by a tiny fraction, but I don't buy that Hall is, especially not based on a combine time .02 seconds better run in an entirely different year. (And please don't give me that 4.15 fraud 40 time run on that sloped Va Tech track.)
What do you guys say? To be honest, I haven't seen a ton of Hall with my own eyes, but I'll go on record and say that he won't play as well from Day One as Newman did -- regardless of workout numbers. Remember, last year at least two NFL scouts said Newman was the best corner they had seen in the last severalyears.
(BTW, the new site looks great. Thank goodness -- or Reality -- for the lighter color scheme option.)

I got the impression that he was comparing physical traits between the two noting how impressive Hall is. Although I don't think he says he is as good as Newman on the field. He certainly wasn't as productive. Goose had Newman as the best player in the draft last year. I don't know where he ranks Hall, but I think Newman was viewed across the board as the higher rated talent during this time last year.

they both compare similiarily:
both are fast
both returned punts and kickoffs
but..... Newman has proven he can play in the NFL.

It would be nice if we got Hall and let him play across from Newman and then we could really judge who was better

Heard on the DC.com live chat last night that Mick had been most impressed with Newman's size this offseason. Said that he had put on some serious muscle and looked much bigger than he was last year.

With Roy and Newman both built up and the possibility of Hunter replacing Edwards, I can't wait to see Owen and his alligator arms when Philly comes to town :D

Hall is a fast-riser which scares me, but the guy has some tools to work with. He has a great shot at breaking the top ten.

Newman and Roy working out together in the off-season? :D
Maybe Roy gave Newman some hitting tips, and Newman gave Roy some coverage tips!

Hall doesnt have the man to man skills Newman has yet...he has tremendous physcial skills and is a great return guy, but I saw him get roasted quite a bit in the Va Tech games I watched...he and Dunta Robinson are being over-valued because of their computer numbers

That was like Dewayne Robertson last year. He jumped about 10-20 spots in the draft based on workouts. I was glad that the Jets drafted him before we got on the board.

I just hope he hasn't lost any speed with the gain in muscle wt.
Also...Roy needs to keep his wt around 223-230 so he doesn't slow down. He was very effective playing with that wt during his rookie yr.

I wish there was a way we could get Hall this year to pair with Newman. That would be truly awesome.

Based on what I've heard about Hall, he might not be able to start right away because of the different types of defenses that we run incorporating zones and different responsibilities based on the offensive formations. From what I understand they would just lock him up in man coverage and let him do his thing.

I think Hall has the athletic ability of Newman, that said I don't know if he has the skills Newman has. I really like Hall and think he will succeed at the pro level. To compare him to Newman isn't a bad comparison at all, it's actually pretty fair. I hope Hall goes to Texans so that we will have him out of the nfc.

I agree, I have seen him beat few times. I only saw about 3 or 4 games last year I think. But wasn't that impressed with him. I wondered what the big hoopla about this guy was. He sure seemed like a good return guy though.
I think this is all the draft hype with the combine numbers he put up. It never fails in NFL.

when its draft time, there's always a player thats the next best player in the league at his position. people are always looking to compare draftees to currenty NFL players, so this doesnt surprise me.

I cant give the exact # of passes that Newman gave up last year (I dont know), but I can tell you how many TD's he gave up.
2
To Keyshaun Johnson on a perfect throw (it was thrown ONLY where key could get to it.)
And one to Steve Smith where Smith made an absolutely fantastic catch. ANd Newman was actually in position to defend it.
He did give up some big plays, but they were not entirely his fault.
So, we shall see how Hall does this year, adjusting to one of the toughest positions to go to from college to the NFL.
I think Newman did a terrific job last year and he will be a stud for us for years (yeah I'm a homer)
