If you were a girl, I'd start calling you Jukebox, but since your a male I think I'll stick with addressing you as Sir.

Pardon the bad humor.

Anyway, my condolences to Mr. Juke99, but someone has to do the dirty work, it might as well be someone we can plug quarters into. JK :D

Congratulations Juke99!

P.S.

Just had to ribb you a little like we do to McNabb.

Jukie (ok Juke; whatever),

Congratulations seems to be the order of the day. If you'll accept congratulations from an Eagles fan, then I give it gladly. Because you see being a Mod-man (woman?) is a great responsibility. Mod men are not exclusive to our board (I may feel like a 2nd class citizen sometimes, but I'm a citizen nontheless).

I guess I'm probably thinking "outside-the-box" when I say that one day I hope our MB decides to have some mod representation from an opponent fanship (this isn't new concept, I've mentioned it to the mod-squad, and one other mod-man). The point is that you have to realize that another point of view is healthy; as long as that point of view is within designated guidelnes.

Sure, I'm sincere about congratulating you -- as I was when I gave well-wishes to the La Tuna fish (I still think he was joking when s/he threw out the "B" word on me). But by now I believe all of the mod-men know that I know when to fold em ...but I'm not a push over.

But I sure wish you guys would consider having an opponent fanship member as a mod. Not too many mod-men on any site would look out for other team fans without extreme prejudice.

Question: How would this MB act if I became a moderator? That's right, an Eagles Fan moderator on a Dalley C'Boy message Board! I can hear everyone rejecting the notion from here. But wait just a minute -- word would get out across the NFL MBs that you guys were pioneers; pathfinders, and precendence makers.

Listen, I'm not necessarily talking about myself ...I've read AJM's post (you all know him, he's been a member of this site for a Very long time) for over 6 months now -- he's fair, he's knows when to backup and proceed In another direction, and I've never seen him defend without cause. But I still believe He could add another dimension that would enhance our MB and represent an opponent perspective that no other MB currently has.

Would I accept such responsibility ...I'd have to tweak some things, but if asked, I could handle the challenge.

Ok, why not call it Mediator vis-a-vis Moderator. Implement as a test for a month. Go on, talk it over with each other. Do a survey! What harm will it do for a month.

Sensitive Time Periods to consider or that probabLy need to be worked out:

Opponent Mediator games played against the host MB Moderator/fans
(e.g., when Dalley plays the iggles, r'Skins, etc)

Deferred post that are directed toward/conflict with sensitive dalley C'boy
related issues (e.g., directly after a potential loss from the mediator's team)

Other arkward posts

Why can't opponent fans be considered as moderators/Mediator -- there's not restriction in the policy to become a MB member. Consider it before you reject It!

OK, I promised myself I wouldn't post anything in this thread but this is a very good question.

First off, thanks for the kind words from everyone.

Now, on to the question proposed, as far as I'm concerned, being a good Mod here and a supporter of another team are not mutually exclusive terms. One can be a fan of another team and still be good as a mod. The key is, to be a supporter of this site. That's the most important aspect of the "job"

The way I view it, it's like being a good umpire. I am sure they all had favorite teams when growing up, and still do but it doesn't impair their judgement...IF they are good at what they do.

In fact, there are people here I don't agree with either in points of view, or sometimes how they express themselves BUT that wouldn't have any influence on me (assuming that everything was done within the posted guidelines) when "Modding"

As an aside, do you think you could ask an easier first question the next time a new mod is named? Geeeeeez.... :)

I'm honored that you responded so eloquently (you're right up there with "the Mod-Squad). You fielded the question like a Vet-Mod (I've found your knickname = Vet-Mod)!

I agree with you. One sure way to determine MB dedication is tenure; consistency, and honesty. Consider the Mediator/Moderator option -- perhaps with limited Mod authority. A mediator would serve the MB as a liaison between opponent fans and moderators.

I know the question was heavy, but I figured you could handle it -- and you did! But think about the first 15-20 questions I'd get if I became a mod-man/mediator. Establish your parameters/criteria for the Opponent Fanship Mediator -- make a short list, let us take a look at your porposal. We can go from there.

LMAO, we've got more mods than opponent fans, don't we?

Why exactly do you feel opponent fans NEED a mediator? Are you treated so unfairly, all six of you, you need a special counsel to plead your case?

BTW, this is Juke's congratulation thread. Your lobbying on it isn't kosher. For all you know, the guy could want to email the link to his mother.

And all she'd see is an Iggles twerp beating his own drum. Like a kid invited to a friend's birthday party, and bringing his own cake.

Thanks...it's all downhill from here for me :)

Actually, if you consider it, a person could come here and know next to nothing about football, read the posting guidelines and become a good mod. In fact, I could make an argument that a person with zero knowledge would be best suited for the responsiblity because they would be objective and wouldnt get wrapped up in the discussion at hand. Instead, they'd be a very objective mod, reading the words in the way they were written and determining if that behavior fell within the posted guidelines. Pretty simple.

I think that is where your question would draw the most concern, objectivity.

Juke99,

Congratulations on your being appointed a moderator at the undisputed best Cowboys message board on earth, the CowboysZone!!

As a poster I am happy to know a devoted Cowboys fan with limitless knowledge on the team and the NFL has been recognized. Your posts have always been among the most informative, engaging, and clever here.

As a fellow mod I appreciate the fact your wisdom, objectivity, and wit will continue to make this board a safe haven for Boys fans to congregate and discuss the team. Your fairness and sense of balance (except when it comes to my beloved Tuna) is outstanding, and you are easily able to rise above the level of baiting trolls and assorted wannabe 'mediators".

However, your ultra criticism of our fearless leader is becoming, well, unseemly. In fact, the day may come when for one mod must ban another. I pray the team wins handily this week beause I cannot take another week of your Tuna salading. Nor can my fingers take another week of dropping five hundred posts in his defense.

Sincerely,

Your devoted one.

Congratulations Juke, and most of all thanks for agreeing to help us out.

There are a lot of misconceptions about being a Moderator. It also always comes with some controversy. People want to create all kinds of conspiracies about why someone was chosen over someone else.

The fact of the matter is we have a lot of posters worthy of being Moderators. Choosing one out of all the candidates is not easy and nothing about it is favoritsim. Unfortunately people tend to not believe that.

99% of the time that I am on this forum I am not a Moderator. I'm just a Cowboys fan who is reading and posting about the game of football.

The other 1% of the time is my least favorite time here. I prefer that people simply respect this site for what it is and behave without needing intervention. The fact is, some don't. They want to spread litter. So I get to play janitor.

No joke, the best compliment ever paid to me on this site happened a couple of months ago. A poster I read often, and respect, got fed up with something and was going to leave. I stepped in via PM to try and fix whatever was wrong. The poster in question appreciated the efforts, but more importantly said he didn't even know I was a Mod here.

That's just the way I wish it was all the time. In front of the forum we're all just posters here.

If I could wish anything for Juke99, all of the the other Mods, and any future candidates it would be that everyone quit fixating on who the Mods are and simply focus on how they do their jobs.

No person is perfect. Mods can and do make mistakes. Lord knows I made some doozies. Especially on the old forum. We all do. People make mistakes and feelings get hurt. It's a fact of life.

This site is and always has been about content. We get better insider news, faster posting of the articles, and more discussions about the issues we care about as a fan base than any other site about the Dallas Cowboys.

That's because of the everyday posters...not the Moderators.

Who the Mods are ought to be the least interesting thing about why you come here. I really wish it was.

Welcome again Juke. Welcome to controversy.

I'm not bashing..that's against the rules.

But if I were bashing someone, it'd be "them".

I'd say something like...

"What a sissified bunch of guys over there running that board.

Frieghtened by a woman knowing the sport of football and having an opinion. Talk about an inferiority complex...

Clearly gay...

A good name for them would be "treehouse tarts"...

Because they act like they are 8 year olds in a treehouse and have their gay little circle...

And if you don't kiss their butts they don't like you."

But I wouldn't bash anyone unless it was warranted. I am cerainly not "bashing" anyone here.

There are almost 2000 posters here at our beloved Zone, many more who come to read as guests, and I doubt more than a handful know or care what you are referring to. I know they come here to read about and discuss the Dallas Cowboys, tho, not your petty vendettas/problems.

Perhaps I should have IMed you privately, but decided this is best said publically, one time. There are many members who post on both boards, and enjoy both. They don't need to be made to feel they hold mixed loyalties because they post on both, or more, and the site owners and mods elsewhere don't need to be insulted here.

Grow up. Personal rivalries between boards is asinine, and calling folks cowardly sissies is juvenile. There are good folks/ Cowboys fans there, like here, and the name calling reflects on no one but yourself.

I am sorry Herms. I was just having a little fun with the thread in which I felt my post was a related topic. If you cared to pay attention to what was written, it was merely a hypothetical situation. I was struck by a similarity that I had come across on another board - which has remaned unnamed - and was just pointing out the coincedence I had come across.

Mind you........this is a non-football thread, titled, "welcome juke99 as the newest mod"...and I am sure the people who want to read about football don't care about who the mod is that will bring the ban hammer down on them if they break the rules, because the majority of the football reader types follow the rules - right?

No need to jump the gun...

...And if I were bashing anyone would be because they picked the level to play on.

No foul here though, because I am not bashing anyone.

Again - hypothetical.

;)

Well, hypothetically speaking, if it occurs again...you can catch my hypothetical drift, I'm sure. Just as subverting profanity filters can't mask the message and intent, neither can crying "hypothetical" fool anyone.

Also, this Juke welcome thread doesn't need to get sent to the smack board. THAT would be an all time first, so let's just end it here and now.

OK...my mom's birthday was last week...I am seeing her tomorrow...I was going to give her this thread as a gift...but now that's out the window...so y'all owe me $25 each for the gift I am going to have to buy her.

Rod Woodson is somewhat better but still not comfy with it yet. The big guy is by far the best.

Rich has grown on me a lot. They used to market him as so smarmy on the commericals. But he's sweet. He's got this wide eyed ernestness and an awe for the game..comes across wholesome and even sincere.

LOL!

"Tim Horton's" is a chain of donut shops... we Canucks luv our donuts. :D

FYI Tim Horton was defenseman for the Maple Leafs in the 50's & 60's... and a pretty good one at that (he played 24 seasons). Very hard-nosed. In the early 70's he became a Buffalo Sabre... at this point he was about 40 years old and in the same time period started this chain of donut shops in the Toronto area.

Anyway in 1974, he broke his jaw during a game in Toronto. They gave him a pain-killer and he subsequently got into his sports car, took off and soon after wrecked with him perishing.

Since then the chain has grown and is now owned by the Wendy's corporation. And now you know story of Timmy Horton.
