"If Republicans run in future elections with a simplistic anti-government message, ignoring the poor, the addicted, and children at risk, they will lose, and they will deserve to lose."

Personally, I think Huckabee's liberal Christian conservatism is the future of the Republican party, but in the short term I think Bush has destroyed the credibility of "compassionate conservatism."

I always HATED that COMPASSIONATE conservatism BS. It was so CLEARLY a PR thing- everyone worried that conservatives would be labled as mean, cruel, etc. WE WERE GOING TO BE CALLED THAT NO MATTER WHAT by the Dems and their media whores ANYWAY. Don't apoligize for being conservative- stand up and be PROUD OF IT.

Kind of hard to stand up and be proud of being a conservative...when the party backs the least conservative republican in years...W, and now many are backing Rudy.
They also scoff and belittle the most conservative in the debates...Ron Paul.
