Seems like the word is that Fred is going to drop out and hope for a VP bid.
Guy was the most hyped up entry to fall flat in a long time.
Such a disappointment.

It is very disappointing to me as well. He just never seemed to get things going in the right direction. As for the VP position, that would be a long shot IMO. Whoever gets the nomination will likely want a bigger name running mate.

I would not even want him as VP right now.
The guy lacked fire in his belly.
Seemed like he could only show up once in awhile in the primaries and the other times he just looked too wore out or without much enthusiasm.

I'm sure Huckabee wants him to - he would have won South Carolina had it not been for Thompson siphoning off votes.
Thompson has no chance of winning at this point.

Yeah, McCain should convince him to keep running through Super Tuesday, especailly with the winner take all format.
I saw some reporting on him that said his campaigning had been improving, but he sure did come out flat after an impressive non-candidacy.

BTW, should we wake him to tell the news? Or just let him be?

“Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people,” Thompson said in a statement.
Yeah real big effort there Fred.
