I have made the argument in the past that the lack of pass rush has as much to do with the scheme as it does with the personnel.

The DE's first responsibility is to stop the run. This limits thier ability to create pressure on the QB.

Ekuban now has 4 sacks (tied for 11th). Wiley has zero.

This is as bad a defense as the 2000 team.

Ekubust even had a great run stop against the Eagles yesterday on a 3rd and 1 in the 4th Qtr.

Ekuban was strong against the run. As was the DE before him that went to Denver in free agency.

Wiley is not as good as either of those two players based on the returns we have seen over these past 6 games.

At some point you have to start questioning the scheme.

It's more of a scheme issue. Our Contain D just isn't cutting it.

We're simply dying a slow death.

Terrell Suggs would have been a wasted pick. Jevon Kearse would languish in this position.

Any player with pass rushing skills is totally wasted in this scheme.

The problem with our "scheme" is more of an timing issue.

We seem to be "scheming" for plays that were long dead 4 years ago but we are just now addressing these new fangled O strategies!

Kind of a day late and a dollar short.

There are lots of qualified candidates that would do better with this defense than Mike Zimmer.

And I'd venture to say there are a lot of unqualified candidates that would do better than Mike Zimmer.

Give me a break dude.

That was a specific answer.

If it makes you feel better I could go pull the names off of the coaching staffs listing. And I could also get pictures and bios if that gives you a warm and fuzzy.

My answer was specific.

The Defensive schemes employed under the Coordinators at NE and Philadelphia are proven winning formula's. Both of these defensive schemes have been difference makers for thier respective teams. And the Defensive Coordinator at Philly has done it with major shifts in personnel....both at the Defensive line and at Cornerback.

The Defensive Coordinator at Washington is picking up where he left off at Buffalo.

So my point is very simple. Find a young unknown Defensive coach which has been coaching in 1 of these 3 systems under one of these 3 great defensive minds.

Thier names are not important........the success of the programs that they have been involved with is.

well, i think their names are quite important and i tend to disagree with your thinking.

what makes you think we have the players to pull those systems off anyways?

Zimmer's scheme, Williams' scheme, or Johnson's scheme have all been productive in the NFL. My question is, do any of these "schemes" have anything to do with missed tackles? Did Zimmer "teach" T. Newman to just bounce off the ball carrier like he did on one play in the 2nd quarter yesterday? Does the Zimmer scheme teach defensive players (Tyrone Williams) to throw receivers TOWARD the first down marker?

I've seen LOTS of bad tackling, players bouncing off of ball carriers, and poor misjudgements of passes, etc. this season. I may not be in the majority here, but I'm not convinced it's all Zimmer's fault. That being said, I think some of you GROZ guys make some pretty valid points. I'm just wondering if the defensive woes could actually be more of the fault of the players on our defense, that's all.

I understand completely. As a fan, I have no way of knowing exactly what the problem is.

But....a change at this point would be good.

We have changed personnel and still cannot create a pass rush or turnovers. So at this point I think it is fair to call for a change of scheme.

This defense quit yesterday. This is something that they have not done up to this point. This situation has become extremely dire. We need a change IMO.
