Wow, you must be a hard-core liberal, my man... Hillary and Obama topped my list too, but only with a score of 34... McCain and Romney bring up the rear at 12... so it looks like I won't be voting Republican, but if Hillary is the candidate, I won't be voting Democratic either...

My problem with Hillary is she's too calculating, to the extent that I wind up thinking she doesn't really stand for anything, other than getting herself elected... it started when she moved to New York to run for the Senate... now, I don't have the first clue what she really stands for...

Oh, I know that all politicians have to pander to the general populace, but it's my perception that she carries it to an extreme that few approach... McCain is the same way, I liked him when he stood up against the excesses of the Bush administration, then he decided he wanted to be president, and suddenly his positions start changing... in the regard, he's not much better than Romney, who is the GOP's answer to John Kerry...

So I can't vote for Hillary, under any circumstances... my joke about writing in Jimmy Buffett's name becomes less and less satirical with each passing day...

I will say I liked the questions in this one better than some of the political survey's I've taken...

I don't understand why any one would want universal health care...it is just another big step down the road to a socialist state. jterrell, I have never had anyone explain to me why universal health care would be a good idea, in all seriousness I would like for you to tell me why you think it would be. Mind you these people that you want handling your health care finances are the same ones screwing up the retirement for millions. But really, please tell me how you think so maybe I can at least understand y'alls thinking. Thanks.

My argument for this is present many times in these forums but I know you seem a recent addition so I will gladly elaborate here.

We need universal health care because it is a social health issue.
We have to enforce the coverage as we do with car insurance to protect all of us.

How many dollars are spent each year by the average family of four because of people who do not have health insurance? How many days missed of school or work?

We already provide Medicaid and Medicare and VA Health. We are talking about expanding those programs and enforcing health coverage. The lowest level health care would be Medicare/Medicaid and it would suck. It would not be free for more than the SCHIP plan proposed but veto'd by GWB would provide, but would be reasonably priced. We would get the effect of a huge group rate plan to offset costs.

At higher ends everyone would be eligible for the healthcare plan the Senate has. It would require paying for it of course but it would be available. And the Senators are not complaining about their coverage.

And I see the argument present in almost every argument that the government has crappy programs so why have more. My response is which programs do we cut? Do we cut them all? Do we end Medicaid and Medicare? Do we stop delivering social security checks? If we in fact see that the programs are not something we want to do without in most cases why argue against adding another dealing with our most precious resource: our health.

Private companies also run like crap frequently. Many are only in business because of the bailouts of the government. So there is no bullet proof system. Both would require strong management and leadership. I do favor offering financial rewards in the manner of bonuses for well run governmental organizations but I do not favor allowing them to become publicly traded and then respondent to the whims of the market or shareholders. We already see too much short term panacea at work with private businesses.

We are behind the times in the US in a number of areas and this is one of them. This plan is not socialism anymore than any other plan. It is not going to offer everyone free health care. It is going to place a responsibility on people to carry coverage.

A lot of companies(such as mine) and a lot of states are doing similar things already. Massachusetts has a very similar plan and it apparently works great.

Thanks for the reply...I see where you are coming from and its nice to here it explained. As someone about to enter the medical profession I agree that the American Medical system does have problems but I think it is the best in the world. From what limited information and experience of other countries health care systems I have had it seems in those countries you have MANY significant problems as well and on type of that the government is the one in control so you really don't have any options. I think that if you let the government control health care they are going to not really help anything but make the system actually worse. IN Massachusetts Im pretty sure their new program is already costing 1.5 times as much as they had predicted and it has not even been around that long. I have just seen the American politicians screw up too many things, Republicans and Democrats alike, to EVER, EVER want to give them any more power or control than they already have. So, I don't agree with you but see where your coming from. Thanks for the reply.

Funny that this year a record number of Americans moved to Canada, but even more Canadians moved here. People in Canada arnt happy about their healthcare. Another thing, if we get universial health care, alot of our doctors will begin to leave to go somewhere where the free market will allow them to make the most money they can. We are free market country, we dont need government intereferece, thats not what we are founded on.

One more thing, if you remember that Hillary care had a provision that would have forced doctors into specialized fields. If there were so many in one particular field, they would not be allowed to move into that field.

That smells of communism.

This is why I want Hillary to win the DEM nomination.

She will be much easier to beat.

So by that reasoning, given the current system, no countries that have universal care should still have doctors because they would all come to the U.S.

Doctors don't move around since in most cases they'd have to have jump through considerable hoops to practice in another country.

Other countries doctors do come to the US, mostly from the middle east where there is no free market, but obviously not 100% of them can come.
