The chargers are around 40 mil under the salary cap. With all that talent they have how can they be so under the cap. Its all scouting thats why, and jerry jones should go up to san deigo and double or triple w/e those scouts are getting paid to bring them to dallas. Simply unbelievable.

Are you sure about that... I have to agree, they draft extremely well.

Are they really? That doesn't even sound possible.

They really negotiate tough and have gotten away with it so far. Dielman for example signed for less than other guards the year he was a FA. But really a lot of their best players like Rivers, Castillo, Jammer, Olshansky Phillips and Merriman are still on their rookie deals.

As many have said, they have a lot of young guys who will command some big bucks. Its a awesome position to be in right now but in another year, they will need a good hunk of that just to keep what they have.

Ya, and in the next 2 years let's see who needs to be signed by the Chargers?
Rivers= 70 million +
Vincent Jackson will get some coin.
Marcus McNeill will come up soon.
Igor Olshansky is comng up
Luis Castillo ????????
Merriman will get 60 million is the next 18 months:)
OMG, i forgot about Shawne Phillips probably getting top money.
Who needs Jammer, huh?
Nate Kaeding won't make top 10 K money.

They have ALOT of players scheduled to hit free agency over the next 2 seasons. They are that far under the cap because alot of their players are still on their rookie deals. That will not be the case too much longer.
Rivers alone will want Romo money, that $70 mill with $30 mill guarenteed.

The Chargers aren't anywhere close to $40 million under the cap. They're about $21.4 million under.

If they're that much under the cap, and they're still willing to let Drayton Florence hit the free agent market, shouldn't that send up a red flag for the rest of the teams in the league??

They draft well so that they don't have to spend a lot on FAs. You rarely see them sign a high priced FA and they usually won't get into a bidding war to keep their own players as they have fresh talent waiting behind them.
As much as everyone hated their GM Smith for letting Marty go after a 14-2 season Including me) but he is still making very good personnel decisions. They really learned their lesson after the Ryan Leaf fiasco and have gotten the better of the deal a couple of times lately with trading the picks for Vick and Eli.

Even if rivers does not get more money then Romo, it will be close. Merriman - you are lookin at Adalius Thomas money at least and probably more. Castillo- serious bucks. shawne Phillips- ditto. They are going to be needing every cent they can come up to keep their stars; and that means they will have to let guys like Turner go.

yeah a whole lot of that has to do with rookie deals. That cap space, rather it's the 40 or 21 something that someone else said is going to be eaten up in a hurry in the next year and a half.
