REPORT: GREGG WILLIAMS TO JAGS by Michael David Smith
Multiple readers in Jacksonville tell us that 1010XL sports radio is reporting that the Jaguars have added former Redskins assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams to their coaching staff.
Williams will apparently get the title of defensive coordinator and assistant head coach. He replaces Mike Smith, who left Jacksonville to become head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
A Buddy Ryan disciple, Williams has long had a reputation as one of the best defensive game planners in the business. Williams spent the last four seasons as Joe Gibbs' top assistant with the Redskins and was at one point considered the front-runner to get the head-coaching job when Gibbs retired, but after multiple interviews for the job, he and Redskins owner Daniel Snyder agreed that Williams would go elsewhere.
Several other teams, including the Cowboys, were said to be interested in adding Williams to their coaching staffs.

I presonally think that was a great move for both the Jags and Williams. That defense is already good. He will make them better. IMO.
Jacksonville will win the AFC South in 2008.

It's a very good fit for both teams, without a doubt. The defense was already very good, as stated, but to win the AFC South they better get a gamebreaker at WR or their offense simply will not score enough to keep up with Indy.

I never though we would be a good fit here. 4-3 and 3-4 LB's have diffrent roles. So I dont see how he would have fit in here, but he is a very good coach.
I didn't think we really had a chance to get him. Nor did I think the hire made sense.

In looking over at extremeskins, that rumor from that radio station in Jacksonville has been floating around for 2 or 3 days now without much other substantiation.
I don't think this is settled yet.

AFC South is going to be as tough as the NFC East next year.

We have one more now. =)
I was never a fan of bringing Williams to Dallas. Please just give us Capers and demote Stewart to something else.
I would love it of Capers was our DC.

Sources: Ex-Skins coordinator Williams agrees to same role with Jags
Updated: February 5, 2008, 6:40 PM ET
Gregg Williams has agreed in principle to become Jacksonville Jaguars (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=jac) defensive coordinator, pending a review of the contract, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Tuesday.
The move would complete a whirlwind tour for the former Washington Redskins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=was) defensive coordinator. Dallas media reported that Williams interviewed with the Cowboys on Sunday for a role on their staff.
That came after Williams interviewed numerous times for the Redskins head coaching job in the past few weeks. He went from being a front-runner for the position to being fired in a matter of days.
The Atlanta Falcons (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=atl) hired former Jags defensive coordinator Mike Smith (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7410) as their head coach last month.
Chris Mortensen covers the NFL for ESPN.

Sean McDermott. I wanted him for our secondary coach.
