View Full Version : Sheesh, we should have just kept Emmitt if this is the best we can do

Anyone see Emmitt Smith run for 100 yards again last week? If we're going with slow past-their-prime vets who can only start on losing teams, we should have just stuck with one of the greatest Dallas Cowboys in history and the man who helped give us three Super Bowls. I know Emmitt is only a shell of his former self, but look at who we've played in Dallas since he left. Troy Hambrick. Eddie George. God almighty, our most consistent runner has been a hybrid fullback. If I would have known who the replacements were going to be...... :(

I love Emmitt but it was time for him to go. He was used to having things his way and Bill wanted to do something different, something that almost cost LA his job here as well.

Best wishes for him for the rest of his career. He's always going to be a Dallas Cowboy no matter what he does in AZ or anywhere else.

Plus he was SO not cap friendly...

I agree Duane, but I am hearing the snickers from the AZ sports media that they have Emmitt and we don't.

They bring up his age as the reason why he was released and then say we have someone who is younger but is running older.

I can see us releasing him for cap reasons but then again, don't we have close to ten million left under the cap this year?

Fellas, I know Emmitt was past his prime but I'd have a lot easier time accepting his departure if we had replaced him with someone who could actually run for over 1,000 yards. LOL

So far, the only back proving he can still be a thousand yard back is Emmitt.

it's not like dallas didn't have to pay him his money anyway. hambrick musta really sold parcells a bill of goods. good for emmitt. now dallas has to take the backs they have and work 'em like rented mules. i'm way past tired of the "air parcells era".

Emmitt is running well and he deserves his props but it's not a coincidence that it took him until this year before he got his 100 yard game. Emmitt wasn't healthy the past two seasons and even when he played, he showed signs of limping at times and lingering pain. Hell, Emmitt had to sit out during part of the 49er game 2 weeks ago due to a groin pull. I'm glad to see the old man doing well but I doubt he can hold up for an entire season. Those injuries will get to him sooner or later.

Am I the only one who remembers all of the fans begging for Emmitt to retire so Troy Hambrick could take over? With Hambrick's 5.1-yard average and "breakaway speed," the idiot coach Dave Campo was wasting our young, future Pro Bowl running back in favor of a washed-up 32-year-old who couldn't even average 4 yards a carry.

What makes you think Emmitt is back? He has rushed for 100 yards only twice this season and both came against weak defenses (New Orleans and Seattle). He also had to remove himself from a game because of a pulled groin just two weeks ago against the 49ers. I would wait until the end of the season before I provided any "I told you so's" For all any of us know, he might have to miss a quarter of the season and that certainly wouldn't suggest that he is back. It will only affirm what all of us have said: He is old.

The fact is he did not want to take a significant pay cut here so the Cowboys got rid of him. He is NOT worth 10,000,000 a year anymore. He has always been an overpaid primadona who is only out for hmself. He held out on every single contract except the last one.
Even if he gets 1000 yards this year does that make him worth 10 million a year?
How much was he worth last year to the Cardinals?
I am dissapointed that we did not put the extra salary cap to better use, but am glad we got rid of Emmitt. Curly

I had several friends who thought that way and they all thought I was crazy to say Emmitt was still better. I never liked or wanted Hambrick to start.

Well Hos, guess I was one of those friends. I thought Hammy was the real deal. I thought Ross Perot would be president...I think R. Lee is a better runner than George.

Am I 3 for 3 :)

I think you are right on the Lee over George thing.

I am with Hos in that I never thought Hambrick would be a good starter. He was a change of pace back and a RB that could started if forced to by injury. Those were his physical qualifications. Throw in the mental aspects and he wasn't even that. His attitude sucked which ran in his family.

George supposedly brings a good attitude to the locker room or maybe not since he is grumbling about his carries. He brings nothing physically any more. He is worn down and can't be a featured back. Not worth the money Dallas is paying him.

I don't know if Lee is deserving of being the starter, but it sure seems like he deserves more than two freakin carries per game.

Believe me, not everyone was on the Hambrick bandwagon.
I'm sure the same people who were clamoring about T-Ham are the same ones who want Reshard and Romo to start.

The grass is always greener.

I wasn't gah gah over him, but was impressed with some of the things he did.

I would still rather have Emmitt right now starting then the three headed monster we have.

When did I say Emmitt was back? My post was about the fans.

Seattle's defense is one of the best in the league.
