Let just put this thing to rest, all morning "First Take" on ESPN makes noise about the Cowboys off season plans. Then that woman reporter from Dallas mentions Jones possibly trading Barber and two #1's for D Mac.....Are reporters that insane, first its old news that has no legs (my opinion) and it would be insane to do??? Trading a Pro Bowl player, RB to boot, and 2 players (if we do it correctly) to add to a legit contender for one guy??? I love to get DMac but we all agree that price is insane. I just wish the media would give it up, not gonna happen. Try and dig up some legit news!!!

we won't know for sure until draft day. I honestly got this feeling that jerry will try some how to get Dmac. also it's getting old that we continue to draft defensive players in the 1st round yet our defense is average or a smidge above average. we should have a top 5 defense in the league with mentaly tough players after all these 1st round draft picks. it's time for them to start playing like 1st rounders and earn those big contracts.

Still not going to trade up to #1 and pick him as this report is indicating.

I wholeheartedly think we make a move and bring him to Big D. I bet my bottom dollar though, that it's not with Miami we make the trade. Al Davis is salivating right now.

My prediction though is this; #22 this year, our #1 next year and a player yet to be determined. #28 will be used as trade bait to possibly regain our #1 next year (a guaranteed higher one) or used on drafting a CB if one we really like, falls. Assante is a big consideration to bring in, also, relinquishing our immediate need to draft a CB. And than, same could be said at the WR position, rounding out our 3 primary needs- too many good FAs and Trade possibilities out there. We than end up with the guy we really want and also fill the holes of our next two needs better than we ever could do in the draft.

I see it this way; 2 #1s is great, but if we sit pat all we do is possibly repeat the past and bring in two substandard guys who won't do anything for us this season. This draft class isn't that great to think we can make a killing with 2 20-somethings. And I think that's what Jerry is thinking, too, with the comments he made last draft season. McFadden is his guy, and he's taking 2 years to go get him. As far as I'm concerned, consider him here already. The only question left is; What number will he wear in the NFL? My guess is #25.

You mean like

Marcus Spears, 1st round.
Chris Canty, 4th round
Jason Hatcher, 3rd round
Bobby Carpenter, 1st round
Demarcus Ware, 1st round
Anthony Spencer, 1st round
Bradie James, 4th round
Greg Ellis, 1st round
Terence Newman, 1st round
Roy Williams, 1st round
Kevin Burnett, 2nd round

Offseason acquisitions:
Anthony Henry
Ken Hamlin
Akin Ayodele
Jason Ferguson
Tank Johnson

So much money and high draft picks relegated to the defensive side of the ball.....and its still a weakness.

It would be funny if it wasn't us.

exactly! it's frustrating and that list confirms it. i keep saying this hoping they will actually do it that "the defense needs to step up and earn that cash".

On the flip side....offensively.

Witten is an elite TE. Round 3
Romo is an elite QB or near elite. UDFA
Crayton - 7th Round
Adams - 2nd Round
Gurode - 2nd Round
Barber - 4th Round

Free Agents
Owens - elite WR
Davis - elite OG
Kosier - solid OG
Colombo - solid OT

We've had a lot less resources invested in our offense and yet, managed to fill them pretty damn well.

BSPN's job is to sell, and no team is sports sells like the Cowboys. People would rather hear about Romo's jock itch than Manning winnin the SB.

Mort tried to float this rumor a month ago before claiming "he was misquoted" by ESPN. Apparently Mort never actually talked to anybody, just kinda wondered out loud about what would be in a possible trade. Nice 180 on the backtrack Mort.

I never heard of a reporter being misquoted by his own network:confused:

it's a media perpetuated myth that will only die when we don't trade up for McFadden
