Did anyone catch the NFL live segment on Friday with the Kiper Mock draft scrolling across the bottom. Had Dallas taking
#22 - Mario Manningham
#28 - Rashad Mendenhall
love #28, but #22 needs to be a CB. Talib (sp), jenkins, McKelvin were gone by #22.

I hope we draft Manningham and Mendenhall!!!!!
We can't afford to draft a CB in the 1st round. We have to much money tied up in DB's as it is.

corners are at a premium. i think we need to prepare ourselves for the possibility that there will be a run on them before we get on the clock.

Late 1st round picks do not cost all that much. Look at Anthony Spencer. According to our own cap expert, AdamJT13, Spencer costs us about $1.040 million against the cap. That is peanuts.

:hammer:
With every rule change and tweak in the game designed to benefit offenses (and the passing game in particular), corners are at a higher premium than ever. WRs and RBs seem to be a dime a dozen lately. I wouldn't mind taking a RB in the first merely due to the quality of back that will be there when we pick, but a CB HAS got to be a priority early. There are a few of these guys that would be top ten picks in a weaker CB draft class that will be available when we pick. It may be YEARS before we see a CB class this strong and the ability to pick a good player at the position in the 20s. We need to "strike while the iron is hot", so to say.

So having two over 30 YOA starting CBs, one of which has an expiring contract, is not a concern?
Like I've said before, we need 2 CBs within our first 4 picks, to get ready for the departure of Newman and Hnery in the next year or two. You don't often see a draft this deep in CBs so it is a must to start drafting them now.

We can afford to draft a CB, WR or RB with either of our first round picks. What we can't afford to do is to foolishly move up for McFadden or continue to spend money on FA high cost players.

I am not high on Manningham, I would rather go with Hardy.
I LOOOOVEE Mendenhall but he will most likely be gone by 28.

I could live with that.
RB depth is insane this year.

Newman's 29.
He'll be 30 at the start of his final contract year. He'll be 31 in his first year of his new contract if you resign him. I wouldn't give a 31 year old CB a 5 year, multi million dollar contract, like the ones being given now a days.
Would you?

CB is our one TRUE need our secondary is the weak link to this team; it's critical that we draft a CB in the 1st round or get a good one somehow before next season.

Yes, I would.
Newman is a shut-down corner, easily top 5 in the NFL. Even Jerry stated that when he ask other teams to rate our roster, they all rate Newman #1.
Newman also was a 24 yr old rookie I think, so he got a late start. This means that his body does not have the wear and tear that a normal player would have at 30.
He has at least 3-4 yrs left at being an elite CB, so a 5 yr deal would sound about right.

I'm not a huge fan of taking a RB in Rd 1, but at 28 Mendenhall would clearly be the BPA, most likely by a wide margin. Mendenhall would be a good pick for us because he's not a one trick pony. While I really feel that we need a CB in round 1 more than anything, this would be a terrific first round talent wise.

Why does everyone think we need a CB in round one? Is everyone forgetting we have Evan Oglesby.

Heard Kiper on The Huddle about 30 minutes ago, and he thought Mendenhall was about the 4th best back behind McFadden, Stewart, and Felix Jones. Pretty interesting that his view is so different from Mayock's.

Brandon Flowers CB round 2.
Thats all I'm going to say:bounce:
I will be bouncing off the walls if I get to see a fellow Hokie as a Cowboy.
He is a very good CB that Dallas can draft in the 2nd even though I have seen some crazy mock drafts that had him in the 1st.

As much as I don't want to take a RB in the 1st I could live with that if we can get a solid corner like Flowers, Porter, Godfrey and god forbid Cason falls.

If they drafted Mendenhall at 28 I would jump for joy... He's only 20 years old and a stud! I believe the #22 needs to be a CB as well.

We can't afford to draft a CB in the 1st round. We have to much money tied up in DB's as it is.
How much money you have tied up in a position is the worst way to improve your roster. We are undermanned at CB. Period. Given our circumstance at CB with nothing behind TNew and Henry, and playing in a pass happy league, I don't see how we can afford to not draft a CB in the 1st round. How much money we have tied up into DB's will not change any of that situation.
