Minnesota Vikings' last link to the Randy Moss trade reportedly will be jettisoned from their roster later this week.

Though nothing may be officially announced until Friday at midnight ET when the NFL's new league year starts, the Jaguars have all but agreed on a trade with the Vikings for wide receiver Troy Williamson.

Williamson was given permission last week by coach Brad Childress to find a new home via a trade. The Vikings are expected to receive a sixth-round pick for Williamson.

The Jaguars were looking to add speed at receiver, and Williamson is one of the fastest in the league at the position. Going to the Jaguars will allow him to reunite with Mike Tice, the Jaguars assistant who was the head coach in Minnesota when Williamson was drafted.

Williamson was drafted in 2005 with the seventh overall pick, which the Vikings acquired from the Raiders for Moss. Other players which Minnesota acquired for Moss -- linebacker Napoleon Harris and cornerback Adrian Ward (picked in the seventh round via a Raiders selection) -- are no longer with the franchise.

Last season, Williamson was fined a game check -- a decision later reversed by the team -- for leaving the team to be with his family in South Carolina after the death of his grandmother, Celestine, to whom he was very close.

Williamson chose to stay at home the entire week and not return for the Vikings' game against the Chargers.

The Vikings wanted him back sooner, though, and docked him one paycheck for his absence, which amounted to more than $25,000 of his $435,000 base salary.

But after veteran players voiced support of Williamson's decision, the team opted to change course.

In 2007, Williamson caught 18 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown. In three NFL seasons, he has caught 79 passes for 1,067 yards and three touchdowns.

Information from ESPN.com's John Clayton and The Associated Press was used in this report.

now we know how much a first round bust can bring in the trade market. let's give bobby carpenter a chance to at least compete for real playing time before we give him away for virtually nothing.

wow 7th overall brings back a 6th round pick 3 years later.

The draft is a crapshoot.

I guess he's still young enough to turn things around and a 6th rd pick is a good gamble in this situation.

The Jags collection of 1st rd wr busts are starting to catch up to Detroit's collection a few years back.

I'd been interested for a 5th.

You think he's not been given a chance for playing time? There's some Anti-Carpenter conspiracy going on?

He may be a great guy - I don't know - but we didn't need that position when we drafted him and it was universally considered a major reach. If he can't get on the field after two years as a 1st round pick, there'd better be a perennial All-Pro ahead of him, right?

That ain't been the case.

....and a new set of hands. I watched this guy at SC and he simply can't catch the football consistently enough to be a top WR. It goes to show how overated the combine is. He ran a fast 40 time, and all of a sudden he is a top 10 pick.

If randy moss can go for a 4th then he'd should be trade for a UDFA :lmao2:

come think of it, i am surprised that the jags didn't just trade matt jones for troy williamson straight up. wasn't there some report about the jags not pleased with jones and want to get rid of him a while back?

He was being propped up as a top 10 pick prior to the combine that year.

Yep, that makes all the talk about trading away starters for first round draft picks ridiculous. A proven player for an unproven one.

This is a pretty good example of a spectacular 40 time vaulting someone up the draft boards. :banghead:

good example of what can happen when you fall in love with numbers and don't bother to figure out if the guy can actually play.

Amazing how far his value has dropped in just 3 years. WOW.

I don't remember that until after he ran, but that could be true. I just know that unfortunately for him he can't catch a football which is a problem for a WR.

Just shows the crapshoot that is the NFL Draft. Many here wanted this guy that draft.

I don't really know much about Williamson. What was wrong with him that he ended up tanking? Bad route runner? Stupid? Bad hands? Bad attitude? Stupid? Got caught fondling chipmunks? Stupid?

Loved the change his hands comment. Good stuff.

I really don't see where this addresses the major need for the Jags at the WR position. He's just another guy as below average as the two starters they already have. They need a lot more than this.

he was supposedly soft, never tried or cared. bad hands and all in all not very good. Coaches hated him.
