Here is an Arrow through the heart of one rumor. two more months till the other one is dead. Thanks to lonestar at cf for this.

Moss
Citing two NFL sources, AOL Sports' Sean Jensen reports Randy Moss is expected to sign a "multi-year deal" to stay in New England.
There was never much doubt Moss would stay with the Super Bowl runner-ups. Moss' deal, which can't become official until Friday at 12AM, figures to make him the NFL's richest wideout, though it may be surpassed by Larry Fitzgerald's deal later in the offseason. The contract is expected to be for three years, $30 million with $12-15 million guaranteed. Jensen adds that impending free agent Lance Briggs is slated to sign with San Francisco. They must be shifting all of Samuel's money to Moss. The Cheatriots* were skirting the salary cap as it was.

As for Briggs, I guess the 49ers want to return to the days of old and salary cap hell considering Clements and now Briggs. We all know Briggs won't be cheap.

I'm not at all shocked. He and Brady had amazing chemistry and he's THE guy in New England. It was interesting to think about though.

If they can get another OLB that could set up to be the best LB group in football for quite some time, though.

12-15 up front huh? Well, that's a little more than i wanted the Cowboys to spend on the guy. Randy's agent did a good job getting those Cowboys rumors out there.

Well, they would have the best ILBers that for sure. (Thats were I'm guessing Briggs would go as he I don't think he is enough of a pass rush threat to play OLB) I like Manny Lawson, but Spencer is already much futher along than Lawson and thats not even considering Ellis. With the addition of Thomas teamed with James, I think Dallas has the best LBers in the league. The OLB they pick up would have to be comparable to Ware to be considered the best LBing group in the NFL. The odds in them getting a OLB like that are slim to none. He won't come in this years draft (unless he is a sleeper) and a OLB for a 3-4 will probably be far more expensive than Briggs.

That's if they decide to continue with plans to move to a 3-4, which they've been unsuccessfully trying for a few years now. They thought they could with their personnel last year, then the DE got injured and Lawson was gone, and so they've continued to run a 4-3. I'm not sure if they've announced a committal to continuing moving to the 3-4 yet. If not, they've already got two of the 3 spots filled with pro-bowlers, and would just need a strong side guy who would probably be lesser known.

Even so, if Lawson works out, that's a heck of a group. It performed better last year in the 3-4, but maybe they're getting better suited for a 4-3.

Does anyone know how much cap room NE has left after this?

The 49ers are starting to have a really nice defense, especially their LBs. If Alex Smith is healthy and they can get it together on offense they could be pretty good.

I give this about as much credence as the original rumor about Moss/Dallas.

Some writer from Minnesota is suddenly an expert with what's happening with Moss in New England?

About as much as Czarneski was originally.

I do think Moss stays put, but we'll see it when it actually happens.

There have been free agents re-signing all over the place to avoid free agency. Yet, this one has not been done yet. The Patriots have already slashed their payroll by releasing Colvin and should have enough room to do this now.

Why hasn't this been done yet is something not to ignore, unless they all have a sense for the dramatic.

michael irvin said something I think makes sense yesterday. he said the pats havent resigned him because they dont want to overpay and that they were probably hoping he would get some other offers to maybe find a middle ground on his value.

makes sense in some regards I guess.

That can also come back to bite you.

Especially if some team gets crazy with their money which seems to happen every year.

This might actually hurt the Cowboys if these numbers are correct since Jones didn't feel the need to extend Owens' deal yet.

His asking price could go way up after he sees these numbers.

I don't see why Moss wouldn't test the market. He just had the best year ever for a WR and many teams are flush with cash. Moss already gave them a discount last year, unless Kraft slipped him some extra $, why would he do it again. Do they brainwash these guys once the get to NE?

Winning, and winning a lot, is a great reason for guys to not need quite as much money.

But the Pats don't ever return the favor to their players. It's all business when it comes to giving out contracts or cutting guys. I'm not saying he has to sign with someone else, but at least listen before you take yourself off the market.

BraveHeartFan
02-27-2008, 02:31 PM
Yeah no probs there. He could listen, sure. He may even listen. but in the end he's going to take the deal in NE cause it's not only a lot of money but it's a lot of money on a very good team.

Win/win for Moss there.

FuzzyLumpkins
02-27-2008, 02:43 PM
The article is factually incorrect. New England does not need to wait for anything to resign their own free agent to be. Everyone else has to wait because officially players arent FA until the stroke of midnight but NE can extend their own any time they please.

This leads me to believe that this guy who aol apparently sees fit to publish doesn't know much about the situation.

Well considering the fact that Moss had the better season I'd have to think its his money.

Primetime0201

We will most likely get a top CB like Hall a WR off FA like Stallworth, Moss or even Walker through trade. We WILL no matter what you clowns like to believe in your head NOT draft a WR in the 1st. We havent done so in over a decade and I don't think Jerry will start now. There is no talent at wide out that makes you go WOW and as jerry said he is looking for WOW players.
I could see us trading for both Pacman and Hall. I could also see us TRYING to sign Moss but we will most likely end up trading for Walker or Williams. I am almost 100% posetive that we will jump up in the draft to take McFadden.
We will most likely backend most of the deals for 2010 when we will have a cap free season but I think at least 3 of these players will be part of the cowboys next season. Also look out for Kearse who will be a Free Agent soon as well.

My poem of Protest For Moss

Randy Moss should come home where he should've been all along, this would really excite us, just to see Randy Moss and Terrell Owens playing in the same jersey in Dallas, I hope once 12AM comes he dail us, with no fuss, in Jerry you can trust, if this happen nothing getting in the way of a superbowl and us, every competition will be dust, superbowl patroits in 2008 without MOSS will be a bust.

The sky is the limit, some might be hating me, as I sit here nervously waiting patiently, for the most dynamic news in history to become true, that Randy Moss will join the boys in blue to be a star, going far, cause Cowboys won't fold, while the Patroits crumble up like dead leaves that grow old, change of season, I would be pissed off if the Patroits had Tom Brady, Randy Moss, and Darren McFadden, my hopes will go from happy to maddness....

Calm down fella. The Pats going for McFadden makes no sense. They're not about to break the bank for some unproven rookie. They got a second year Maroney who played well late in the season and they got linebacker and #2 receiver issues. The only player they invest in sole is Brady and even he takes pay cuts for the team.

And dont get so wet over Moss coming. Let's get real, Brady>>>>Romo and Moss isnt about to spend the remaining years of his career watching his production go down by splitting catches and watching with another loud mouth receiver who he's never been too fond of.

Unless Moss somehow opted out of his contract early which I cannot see considering he was eligible to be franchised then they can extend his current contract. Otherwise we couldn't sign guys like Adams and Hamlin before the deadline.

Moss is still undercontract with NE and as such they can extend him to a multiyear deal.

Moss re-did his contract last April when he got traded to NE. You can only do 1 contract deal/change per NFL calender year. I'm still wondering if Moss will test the market a little before signing that deal, this is just a rumour that he'salready agreed so we'll see what happens. He must know he has a better chance at making the superbowl again if he's playing in the NFC...especially with us ;)

I'm still hoping for that Moss-Owens duo. Would sort everything IMO...we no longer need to trade Barber for McFadden because we would have added that WOW player Jerry is looking for, we can use our picks to draft players in the secondary, this would fix our needs I think.
