Bengals trade for Rogers, to sign Dhani Jones
The Cincinnati Bengals, who acquired defensive tackle Shaun Rogers in a trade with the Detroit Lions on Friday afternoon, reached a three-year agreement with linebacker Dhani Jones.
The Bengals traded third-round and fifth-round draft picks to Detroit to acquire Rogers.
Jones and linebacker Landon Johnson were two of the team's priorities to re-sign once free agency started Friday morning. Jones, who signed with the Bengals during the 2007 season after a number of linebacker injuries, was the first to reach an agreement. Talks continue with Johnson, who is an unrestricted free agent.
The Bengals lost safety Madieu Williams to the Vikings early Friday morning when he agreed to a six-year, $33 million contract.
Senior writer John Clayton covers the NFL for ESPN.com.

If they spend some money on a personal trainer to keep him in shape, that's a big move.

Any bets on how long it'll be till Rogers ends up being arrested?
He's a bengal now, it's gonna happen. It's just a matter of time.

Interesting, exact same trade value as Kris Jenkins.

I think Cincinnati will be just perfect for the lazy, unmotivated Rogers.

It makes sense. The Bengals are a team full of talented underachievers, so Rogers should be a nice fit.

If the lions were willing to trade Rogers for a 3rd and 5th, why not Roy Williams for our lower #1?

Yes, but while the Bengals did give up a couple of picks for him, they have been asking every team they trade with to include at least one "Get out of Jail Free Card."

ROGERS TRADE OFF
The trade between the Lions and the Bengals for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers is apparently off.
According to Mike O'Hara of the Detroit News, the deal was not consummated and the Lions will be looking to send Rogers elsewhere. The two teams had agreed that Rogers would head to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick.
In our view, that's not bad news for the Bengals. Maybe it means that someone within the organization raised an alarm about the 2007 allegations against Rogers regarding his conduct in a strip club. Though he wasn't charged, is that really the kind of guy that the team should be signing giving its recent history of struggles with off-field issues?

A league source tells Booth Newspapers that the Browns will acquire DT Shaun Rogers from the Lions in exchange for CB Leigh Bodden and a 2008 third-round pick.
Beat writer Tom Kowalski notes that "details are still shaky," but we've confirmed that despite past trades, the Browns do still have their 2008 third-rounder and can trade it. Bodden would be a huge score for Detroit, which is desperate at cornerback. If this deal goes through, they'll be desperate at nose tackle. Also, Bodden will almost certainly want a new contract.
the browns are becoming the redskins, trading all of their draft picks away..

ROGERS TO BROWNS A DONE DEAL
According to Hondo Carpenter of SpartanNation.com, who as we understand it is very well plugged in as to the goings on in Motown, the Lions have finalized a trade of defensive tackle Shaun Rogers to the Browns (http://www.spartannation.com/).
In return, the Lions reportedly will get cornerback Leigh Bodden and a third-round draft choice.
Carpenter says that the league office rejected a trade that would have sent Rogers to the Bengals for a third-round and a fifth-round pick.

But they allow the Raiders to trade Moss to the Pats for a fourth...
I just want some consistency...

Consistency? In the NFL?
Guys get bigger fines for uniform infractions than for cheap shots that end careers and you expect consistency.

Fox Sports has reported about 1 1/2 hours ago the deal is still being negotiated. (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7857252/Source:-Deal-for-DT-Rogers-in-jeopardy)
The Browns website is reporting they are on the verge of trading for Corey Williams of the Packers. (http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/)

So the Browns picks look like this:
1st round: Brady Quinn
2nd round: Corey Webster
3rd round: Shaun Rogers
...looks like they can sleep through day one.

The browns site is reporting they traded their 2008 2nd round pick to Green Bay for DT Corey Williams.
It does not mention Shaun Rogers.
I would not think they would trade for 2 DT.

O thats a drag. I wanted to work something out for him. We had spare tackles to work a trade with. O well, Shaun Rodgers is a player and a half. That could have cemented our D as #1 or 2.
Go Horns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nfl Network reported that the Browns do not pick unitl the 4th round now. They lost their 1st to us, 2nd to the Pack, and 3rd to the Lions. The good thing about Detroit getting Bolden is now they do not have to draft a CB in the 1st round, I think. More good CB will fall to us with the 22nd pick.

My buddy is a big time browns fan who thought Rogers was a lazy POS... before the Browns traded for him.
Now that Rogers is a brown I expect that he's now one of the greatest DTs of all time (in my friend's diluted mind :D).
