You hear things working the phones. And here's just about the wildest rumor I've heard ...

Lito Sheppard to the Cardinals. And ... wait for it ... Larry Fitzgerald to Philly.

That's all conditional on the Eagles signing Patriots free agent Asante Samuel, something that several reports, including this one, have as a done deal.

The idea makes sense of several fronts. First, Arizona is planning to move former first-round pick Antrell Rolle inside to safety, where he'd be paired with Adrian Wilson, and the Cardinals have been quiet on free-agent corners despite a looming need. Second, the Eagles have a considerable amount of cap room -- they would even after signing Samuel -- and the Cardinals would create space to extend Sheppard by dealing Fitz. Third, the Eagles' offense has been in perpetual need of a big-time wideout, save for the one great season they got out of T.O.

If all this happens (UPDATE: Yes, I do know it would all be contingent on a Fitzgerald renegotiation), the NFC East would get even more interesting than it already was, with the one team that didn't make the playoffs getting a little bit better at one important position and a lot better at another one. Do I expect this to happen? Not at this point. But it sure is interesting to hear.

Sounds to me the Eagles are stocking their team for a run this year. This was reported late yesterday.

Hey, Alan Ball is can play! :D

Let's see, we trade T New, then draft Cromartie at 22, Cason at 28, Flowers in Round 2, and J King in Round 3, and we're set! :)

We have two #1 draft picks to pick a couple with......

Seriously, Fitz is young.....very young.

Talented......as he77.

It would be a steal for us and if you run a poll.....most Zoners would agree

I seriously doubt that a majority of Cowboy fans on this site would be in favor of sending Newman to Arizona for Fitzgerald straight up.

If you really believe that, start a poll. I would like to see this.

Thats an old one, those talks supposedly fell through already. Fitzgerald's contract makes this deal almost impossible not to mention what Arizona wants.

I just read on an Eagles site that the Eagles are in serious talks with Kansas City concerning Lito and 2 Philly draft picks for Jared Allen.

When will the insanity stop?

This deal won't bother me, why?

1. Samuel is actually a DOWNGRADE from Lito-the latter is a better man-man corner.

2. Sure, Fitz would be a BIG upgrade to Philly's O, but losing Lito(plus having no SS back there) would be a BIGGER downgrade to Philly's D.

3. Last year, it was reported that Fitz was unhappy in Zona b/c Wisenhunt is an old school start with the run to open up the pass. What does this mean? Reid will NOT be running a balanced offense in '08. Funny how he was criticized for not doing that last year(when it worked so well down the stretch in '06), but now everyone's turned their attention to "getting more offensive weapons" and running the ball has become an afterthought? Hey-we know how Reid's pass-happy schemes are horrible anyways-ultimately, I'm ALL for it for these 3 reasons.

CBs are MUCH harder to find than WRs. See who are getting franchise tags?

Wouldn't trade a soon to be relic CB for an elite WR?

You people are certifiable.

Establish a dominate pass rush and you can use dime a dozens in your secondary.

Maybe even a schlub like Roy Williams.

The Giants proved that this year.

Right-even despite our MUCH improved pass-rush, Jacques Reeves all of a sudden looked like a Pro Bowler, right?

Nope-you still have to have the right personnel in the secondary to run your scheme. FYI-we were forced to play alot more zone with the injuries to T-New and Henry.

And BTW-the Giants' secondary was actually much improved this year with the addition of Ross, and the improved play of Webster.

Frankly I think the Cards would be stupid to accept only Lito for Fitz. Sorry, I know Lito is a good CB but Fitz is a top WR which no team should ever trade away/fail to sign. Cards can get a good CB in the draft and they also got plenty of cap space to keep Fitz.

I guess the Cardinals were courting Faneca and Faneca's agent said that being Fitzgerald had that mammoth of a contract and wasn't willing to re-negotiate it led to Faneca's disappointment in the leadership Fitzgerald had. Or else the Cardinals would have been a strong player in signing him. their O-Line does suck pretty bad.

i'm all for the cards getting a corner by trade... that means they probably won't draft one in round 1..... get my drift?

we couldn't cover last year. why in the name of god would we give up the one player who CAN cover just so we can go shopping in the draft?

henry - old and hurt.
reeves - history

and now you want to trade newman?

stick to "good read" man. : )

Just another fan who wouldn't trade Newman for Fitz. Even though Newman is older, he played football late and doesn't have the wear and tear on him as someone his age would. And as long as he has his speed, he'll be fine.
