Seriously-sure, their O will get a BIG upgrade, but now-they don't have much(if hardly any) depth in the secondary and OL.

Call me crazy-but this doesn't bother me at all.

From Philly Sports Insider
Larry Fitzgerald: I have heard the Eagles are in discussions with AZ on a Package that would include Lito Sheppard, Winston Justice & a pick or two, but AZ still wants to get a new deal done with Fitzgerald, especially after losing out on Alan Faneca to the Jets.

I think Arizona will do all they can to keep Fitz there as well.

Especially with a 10-yard cushion. I guess good ol Roy will have to do his usual on both of em. I'll take one behind the back horse collar and a Pepsi please. Farla!!

Especially with a 10-yard cushion.

Reeves is gone, so no more 10 yard cushions hopefully.

How much is Fitz
a) scheduled to count againt zona's cap this year
b) base salary plus incentives this year

I keep hearing that they structured his contract to be crazy but I haven't heard a figure.

Due to escalators in his contract, he's scheduled to earn salaries of $14.59 million in 2008 and $17.355 million in 2009. That's nearly $32 million over two years, and then he'll hit the open market at only 26 years of age.

^^I found that on a different forum.

That is absolutely insane. What were the Cardinals thinking when they gave him all those performance bonuses in his rookie season. Geesh, just stupid. :banghead:

I can't believe any team would agree to those terms. No way can they keep him at those numbers without cutting back elsewhere.

Here's some more information I found.

News: Fitzgerald's 2008 salary is $16.5 million, $1.9 million higher than previously reported, the East Valley Tribune reports.
Impact: This makes Arizona's salary cap situation even more dire than previously believed. The Cardinals and Fitzgerald's agent are still talking about a restructured contract. Arizona can't do much in free agency without extending Fitzgerald's contract at a lower annual price, so there's a good chance that a restructured deal will get done. (RotoWire (http://www.rotowire.com/users/ad_jump.asp?id=700) - Fri. Feb 29, 2008)
News: While the Cardinals are willing to live with Fitzgerald's $14.6 million salary in 2008, his 2009 salary of $17.4 million seems unworkable, the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact: Arizona wants to renegotiate Fitzgerald's contract as soon as possible in order to free cap room and lock him up long-term. Fitzgerald and his agent want a four-year contract with over $20 million in guaranteed money. Negotiations are at an impasse but may get moving soon with free agency set to begin. The bottom line is that Fitzgerald should play at least one more year for the Cardinals. If a long-term deal isn't worked out in the next 12 months, Fitzgerald will probably be cut or traded. Wow, 17 million dollars for a receiver on a team who has made the playoffs something like once in the last 25 years.
