Place for Dunn in Dallas?

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips
Michael Turner's signing in Atlanta signals the end of Warrick Dunn's tenure as a Falcon. I wonder whether Dunn could end up coming to the Cowboys.
Dunn, 33, has said that he wants to play at least one more season. Jerry showed his fondness for high-character guys nearing the end of outstanding careers by signing LB Zach Thomas. There's no doubt that Dunn, whose streak of 1,000-yard rushing campaigns was snapped at three last season, fits that description.
Signing Dunn to an affordable deal wouldn't make running back less of a priority on draft day. But Dunn would give the Cowboys insurance as a change-of-pace/third-down back if the rookie isn't ready, and he'd be an excellent mentor to the young back.
UPDATE: SI.com reports that Dunn has requested his release from the Falcons and mentions Dallas, Houston and Denver as teams that would be interested in him.

Wow, talk about a perfect complimentary back to MBIII. I'd be so on board with this as long as it is a 1 or 2 year deal worth no more than 3/4 mil.
I think with as young as this team is, bringing in vets is the smart idea. Now I still want us to draft a RB maybe in the 2nd or 3rd round, but Dunn would be a huge upgrade IMO.

I'd rather draft someone.
No offense to Warrick, since he's actually one of the real good guys in the NFL, but it's one thing to bring a vet in at a position like QB or O-line and quite another to bring an old guy in at RB.
We tried that already, it did not work out well.

We need two RBs though, i wouldnt mind:
Barber
Mendenhall/Stewart/Rice/Johnson
Dunn
id rather have Cartwright though

Dunn would be a nice pick up, but I'd still draft RB in the first round.

I'm not understanding why everytime a RB is brought up everyone assumes that means we wont/cant draft one. We can sign a vet RB and still draft one.

I like Warrick ever since his tampa days. If he could become a cowboy i would be thrilled. I think he will be a great addition to the locker and help with the younger players not just the RB's but everyone in general.

I really like Dunn as a person and as a player. But I would rather have Ward. Ward is younger and stronger and would be an excellent back up. Then pick up Rice or someone later because I think you can get a good rb in the middle to late rounds.

nice hands also would be good for our offense.
I love that he is among the nfls man of the year every year and does a ton for the city. Falcons fans rave about him all the time. He does charity work non stop.
Him and Jason witten together could do great things.
Not mention being a backup with vision and hands.
We could then go CB+WR like we SHOULD do anyways and draft a Ray Rice or possibly go CB,WR. Then CB again in the second.
That could mean we'd POSSIBLY draft:
DRC at 22
Hardy/Kelly/Sweed/whoever we want at 28
Cason in the second
Rice will be gone but we could get Forte, or Tashard Choice(who ive been bragging about for a while now. He will be a very good back in the pros)
That'd be amazing

My off season plan for the backfield includes picking up a vet RB and drafting a RB with one of the first 3 picks. Dunn would come cheap at least.

I would pass. He brings absolutely nothing to special teams. So that means he's taking up a game day activation for what? 5-7 carries a game at 3.2 per clip?

Sounds like another Eddie George thing.
I agree we don't need a guy that has little mileage on the treads and not backing up any other positions or playing any special teams at all. Tyson Thompson is the position Dunn would actually be filling and we need at least his former level of play when he was producing, to be replaced with this # 3 RB position.
We have a significant re-build needing to be done on ST and we will need every rookie we draft to be on them and contributing..especially if they play offense.
I think one of the things that kept us from being a championship team last year was our very poor punt and KO units. In big games, they didn't produce any big plays for us. Against the Pats, they had the ball consistently around the 50 and the same against the Jints in the playoffs. Continually putting the defense with it's back to the wall with short drives for the other team to score.
This has to swing 180 degrees if we are going to win consistently next year.
I'd like our rookie draftee RB to be a punt returner and if we end up drafting a rookie WR in the 1st round, have him do kickoffs, too. These are ways they can have an impact immediately on the team and also contribute wherever offensively at their positions. This is essential with any #1 pick we take this year.
They must contribute immediately plus be looked at as future starter for us.
We need some speed and explosion from both the PR and KR units handling the ball.
Dunn would not be the one to me.

If we're going to bring in a 3rd down role vet, I'd much rather bring in Mewelde Moore. He has a 4.9 career yards per carry, a 9.4 career yards per catch, and he's a punt returner... which Dallas desperately needs to upgrade.

Also, if Dunn does sign with Dallas.............he will be able to spread his Humanitarian seed throughout the lockerroom. This can only be good for the Dallas area, as giving is contagious. Jerry loves to give back to the community, and I am sure he and Dunn could make some good things happen in the Metroplex.....

Doesn't look like thats gonna happen.
The Steelers hosted free agent RB Mewelde Moore on Sunday, and "his signing appears imminent," according to ESPN's Michael Smith.
He'd be an upgrade over 2007 third-down option Verron Haynes and supply added punt and kick return value. The deal may be announced this afternoon.

Don't forget, Dunn has the experience to be able to pick up the blitz as a third down back, and can peel off when he is not needed as an outlet. That is one are where experience is priceless. That gets lost so often when thinking about RB's.

and when you have no qb, coupled with the other team knowing you're going to run because of said qb problem, who could do more?
i just get amazed at what one little tidbit can do to facinate someone so much.

On the nose as usual. Although I can't help think he adds a great deal in intangibles. But you're right. He would take a roster spot away from a young player who could become a long term starter.

If you can get Dunn "on the cheap", why not? He's faster than JJ and would be a great change of pace back for Barber. You can still draft a back in the draft, but why not go for Dunn?
