View Full Version : Oh Noes! We traded for McFadden, What Now?!

Here's my just-for-fun mock, in the unlikely event we drafted McFadden.
1. Darren McFadden, Arkansas (RB, Height: 6-1. Weight: 211.)
What needs to be said. It's DMAC, we all know why we hate/love him. We all know why this could be a horrible/amazing move despite/because of the cost. The point here isn't to argue whether it's worth it or not, whether his legs are too skinny, but what the team could do to make the team better IF we were to get him and fill our other holes. I'd appreciate it if this didn't turn into a diss/pimp DMAC discussion.
In order to make this happen, I used the draft trade charts and didn't throw any players in since multi player deals rarely happen these days. In order to get the value needed to get Oakland's 4th overall pick, we would need to give up (in this example) Both 1st rounders, our 2nd rounder and our 5th rounder.
2. TRADED
3. Charles Godfrey, Iowa (CB, Height: 5-11. Weight: 207.)
Ran a 4.47 at the combine, so he's not a burner. But he is a solid, big corner that can man the 3rd position for us for years and maybe move to #2 at some point. I have my doubts he would do well as a #1 guy, but there will be other drafts and we already have a #1 guy on the roster.
4. Dexter Jackson, Appalachian State (WR, Height: 5-9. Weight: 185.)
Our best bet to introduce speed (other than McFadden's 4.27) into the passing game. I'm not a fan of small receivers, but from what I've heard, Jackson runs great routes and catches well. He immediately steps into our special teams and could be a terror in the slot in a few years.
5. TRADED
6. Jack Ikegwuonu, Wisconsin (CB, Height: 5-10. Weight: 194.)
Blew out his knee and then got in trouble for stealing an XBOX, other than that, he's a great guy! Actually he probably would have easily been a 1st day pick if not for these problems, and while there's no guarantee he comes back 100% from his knee injury, we just traded all out 1st day picks for DMAC, and we need to take a few risks. He's a talented corner and if he can get his life and body in order, I think he'd be a great addition.
7. Jason Shirley, Fresno State (NT, Height: 6-5. Weight: 330.)
A moron, got suspended a couple of times so he may very well be off our board to begin with. But he's got great size, and supposedly runs a sub 5 second 40 at 330 lbs. He's got stamina issues and of course other issues, or he'd be a higher pick, but he could be a good project.
----------------
I'm not sure how I feel about it, I don't know a lot about most of these guys and admit that outside of DMAC and Jackson, I've never seen any of the other guys play... or maybe I have, but didn't know it was them at the time. I didn't bother doing alternative picks like I usually do since outside of like the first 3 rounds, who the hell knows what we pick, but I knew we had to address CB and WR inspite of McFadden.

The only player I like is McFadden. I think it leaves us with 2 holes un-plugged.

Trust me, I'm with you. Dexter and DMac are the only ones I like.
But as I was going over the players I DO like, I kept finding they were projected to go in the rounds of the picks we "gave up" for DMac.

Well I'm sure we could get a better CB in the 2nd round, unfortunately, in this scenario, we had to give up our 2nd round pick as part of the deal for DMAC.

jerry is too smart he's not gonna give up all those picks. plus al davis is too stupid we could probably give him #22 and a hotdog for the #4 overall pick.

hmmm, 6'-5 330 pound N.T. who ran ub 5.0, he will not be here with thi pick
i give any draft where we trade for mcfadden a big fat F, not cau$e of mcfadden but cau$e of the cap hit and we would be lo$ing about 5 po$ition$ to upgrade one where we already have a pro bowler.

Maybe you should re-read what the point of this thread was to begin with.
And please, like you knew who Jason Shirley was before today.
I know you think everyone that run's a 4.3 or has gotten the slightest amount of press is a 1st round pick, but please spare me. I've had enough.

If we could just trade the 22 for the 4...well, duh. Then I'd be all over the idea of moving up and getting DMac. However that isn't going to happen in this world, the next world, or another alternate reality. You're going to give up AT LEAST the 22 and 28 and thats probably still not quite enough to get a team to move from the 4 or 5 spot and down into the 20's so you're likely giving up more than that. It would be the Ricky Williams deal, all over again, only this time it would be the Cowboys looking stupid for trading away the entire first day of the draft to get one player.

I guess this could be one reason Jerruh is pursuing an Adam Jones trade, to alleviate the necessity of getting a CB early. I cant imagine they'd do the deal unless they have some assurances from the league that Jones will be reinstated. If we trade for him either he or Henry will be the 3rd CB, and nobody we draft on the 1st day is going to play ahead of T-New, Jones or Henry anyway unless one of them gets hurt.
I dont really want the guy here, but if we get him, he cleans up his act and he is healthy he is a good player and clearly does give us more options on draft day

They will still draft CB in round one because they have to cover their butts in the event that Jones gets himself suspended again.

Way to weasel out of it,this has NOTHING to do with you checking my mocks, it has to do with you ASSUMING I didn't know who he was when in fact I was well aware of him, so INSTEAD of ADMITTING you were WRONG, you twist it into something else.
It's really simple next time you make a mistake, simply say I WAS WRONG!
I have, and it's time you be a MAN and own up to it when you make a mistake!
I like how you tried to cover it up by making a lame joke to try and cover up the fact you were completely 100% wrong and looked foolish in your initial statement though, very nice try.

We win ANOTHER "ONE" instead of winning 3, 4, or 5 we should win if we dont' mortgage other positions for one where we lready have a pro bowler.
Irvin is my favorite player also, now Romo.
Oh, and I got one up on ya, I wore Irvins ring and Jerry Jones ring.

careful when you use the term "probowler" remember roy "thunder thighs" williams is a probowler too. why don't we focus on winning one championship or better yet a playoff game before thinking a bunch of depth players are gonna win us several championships.

giving up a couple picks to get a potential superstar offensive player inst going to cripple the team in teh future
we've got a very young team with few holes...now is the time to make a move like this is they want to (and can) because we're likely going to win 10-11-12 games or so a yr for the next few years

So both of our 1st round picks are just gonna be DEPTH players?
Sure roy's a pro-bowler, but that doesn't apply to Barber, Barber's a TRUE Pro Bowler

[quote=dbair1967;2006854]giving up a couple picks to get a potential superstar offensive player inst going to cripple the team in teh future
Yes it will when you have to pay him so much we can't afford to keep Marion Barber, Chris Canty, Ken Hamlin, and lose two 1st rounders who could be potential #1 W.R. and C.B. and a 3rd rouder.
we've got a very young team with few holes...now is the time to make a move like this is they want to (and can) because we're likely going to win 10-11-12 games or so a yr for the next few years
We have a few holes NOW, THIS YEAR, but we're gonna need a future #1 W.R. a future #1 C.B. this year and the coming years, and we need to re-sign players like Barber/Hamlin/Canty or selse we're gonna need a new F.S., possibly a S.S. if roy sucks again this year, and TWO D.E.'s if we lost Canty cause Spears needs to be replaced also.
so this will be a tricle down affect, trading up for MCfadden isn't just lets get a great R.B. and that's that, it WILL hurt our "overall" team by trading up and why trade and give up sdo many picks and so much money to a position where we have a pro-bowler who averages about 5 yards a pop???
