Didnt know where to put this, so i guess ill put it here. Especially after the "would you vote for an atheist" thread. Honestly this thread wont be much, i suppose i dont know what im looking to get out of this but here goes.

I am not religious, I think it is nice to believe in something. I think its nice to think there is something more than rotting, but i dont think there is. One side of my family is hugely religious, they are against abortion, stem cell homosexualtiy etc... (even though as far as i know, and have researched that is exactly the oppasite of message, love thy neighbor etc) thats the terrible thing, people who are most religious are the ones that take what said and dont live by it. Any who, I have begun reading the bible. I just finished Genesis, it is boreing as hell and just lists names but i know it will get better as i go on. I find myself smirking in disbelief at some things. Almost wondering how people can live there whole life with religion first. The problem i have with the bible is, if one thing is wrong the whole thing falls apart...

anyway, i dont mean to offend anyone, i could be wrong. just typing randomly i suppose.

One of my problems with the Bible was how can it claim incest is bad, yet all of man derived from Adam and Eve.

And most Christians couldn't explain it. And I ignored it for years.

Cajun actually did provide a reason for it in another thread. Not sure how much I bought into it, but it was a good post explaining it....

My mom is really religious. And the latest fight between her and me is about the frequency (or lack thereof) of my church attendance. This weekend was pretty big in the Church affairs; we had church on Thur, Fri, Sat, Sunday. My parents went to all of them (with my younger sister). I was able to negotiate down to attending 2 without pushing the envelope too far and risking financial ramifications.

I've fallen away from the church, particularly the organized part of religion... Right now, the "schism" between the church and I runs pretty deep.

I've thought of re-reading the Bible and seeing if I can draw anything from it. I can't recall the last time I actually read it (or if I have ever read it from front to back). But I have a couple of books I am trying to finish up first. Maybe I'll tackle the religion thing in the summer.

Good luck on your search. This stuff is never really easy.

Ding Ding Ding.

Before I close this thread...just in case you are truly interested in learning some things, whether you believe them or not, I suggest the original poster gets a study companion to read along with the bible.

You could PM CajunCowboy as I am sure he could give you recommendations on a good study companion...I also believe he had, or still has, a link to an online study companion or software.
