Forgotten in the four weeks and forty-eight hours since the Philadelphia Eagles signed cornerback Asante Samuel on the opening day of free agency is the fact that the Eagles are looking to trade cornerback Lito Sheppard.
The deal hasn’t gone down, and the reason for it isn’t clear. Though there likely has been haggling about the value of Sheppard, with the Eagles presumably wanting more than what any interested teams would want to sacrifice, the recent trade of cornerback DeAngelo Hall from the Falcons to the Raiders should help to frame the market.
Hall generated a second-round pick in 2008 and a fifth-round pick in 2009. Sheppard generally is comparable to Hall, with Hall maybe being a half-notch above him.
One way or another, the deal is likely to get done. As noted in the Charlotte Observer, by way of the Philadelphia Inquirer, talks could heat up during the league meetings in Palm Beach.
But there’s no rush, in our view. The Eagles can wait until draft day. If the corner that a team covets is gone before it picks at the bottom of round one, then maybe that team would send that pick to the Eagles for Sheppard. Or maybe after the dust settles on the first day of the draft a team will ship a first-rounder in 2009 to Philly for Sheppard.
Either way, a deal is likely to happen. If the Eagles were committed to Sheppard as the franchise’s shut-down corner, they wouldn’t have given so much money to Samuel, who actually is a few months older than Sheppard.

I don't see them getting a 1st rounder for him...

Sheppard > Hall
The only reason the Falcons got that much compensation is because of the "Weekend at Bernies" factor going on in Oakland.

Lost all credibility with me on this one.

Eagles would be stupid to trade him.
Their team has lately been built around a very good secondary, and Jim Johnson's blitzes.
They are gonna fight the Skins next year for the bottom of the division...at 9-7. The NFC Beast is back.

There was a time when I thought that the Tampa Bay Bucs should close up shop and just terminate the franchise.... ala the Montreal Expos...
THEN they won a SB... so I let it go.
The Eagles are very good contenders for that... They should just close up shop and forget it.
All in favor - I
Just saying.... what a sorry arse franchise.

Sheppard's good when Healthy, but that hasn't been the case lately, I can't see them getting any more than a 3rd rounder or they might use him to move up a round in the draft.

Sheppard is coming off a really bad year so even though he has been a better corner than Hall career wise he is really at his low value wise. Which is also why the eagles are wanting to part ways and have already replaced him. The raiders really overvalued Hall so the eagles may be dreaming if they expect equal compensation.

Wow!
At least a couple people saying that Sheppard is a better corner than Hall.
Simply "Wow".

They even contacted the REDSKINS(of all teams) to trade Lito.
Word out of Philly last year was that he became a detriment in the locker room b/c he's unhappy over his current contract.
Hhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm.....................some player in Philly un-happy over his contract...sound familiar?

They'd never trade him to us, but I'd gladly give our 2nd round pick for him. Along with the imminent trade for Pacman, I'd then forget CB altogether in round 1, possibly picking up another CB on day 2.

I think you're nuts Hos. :)
Yeah, Hall is over-rated but talent wise he's head and shoulders above Sheppard.
If there were any two, slightly above average corners in the NFL, that benefitted more from a defensive scheme that emphasized a big-time blitzing scheme, than those two in Philly-- I don't know who they are.

It's not like Jacques Reeves(or even Roy Williams, for that matter) would have somehow benefited from Jim Johnson's complex blitz schemes themselves.
Bottom line-Lito EXCELLED in JJ's schemes. Yeah-you need a pass rush first and foremost, but your secondary has to do its job as well(Remember last year when Newman/Henry were banged up, Wade had no other options but to play more zones with Reeves and Nate Jones back there).
With that being said-not that sure if Asante Samuels has the talents to play man-man in JJ's schemes.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- DeAngelo Hall (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6767) faces "substantial discipline" that may include a suspension following his meltdown on the field and on the sideline against Carolina.
Hall's loss of composure on the field helped lead to the Atlanta Falcons' third straight loss. His tirade on the sideline could cost him a fine or a suspension.
Hall, the Falcons' two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, drew three penalties for 67 yards on Carolina's game-tying drive in the third quarter of the Panthers' 27-20 win Sunday.
Hall shut down receiver Steve Smith (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5521) through most of the game. Smith did not have a catch when the Falcons led 17-10 in the third quarter, but the momentum shifted when Hall was called for a 37-yard pass interference penalty on Smith.
One play later, Hall was penalized for roughness after he tried to jam Smith at the line. The Falcons' defense held when Jake Delhomme (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4555) was sacked by John Abraham (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5042) on third down from the Atlanta 20, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the free-talking Hall as he was walking off the field kept the Panthers' drive alive.
Two plays later, Delhomme threw a pass to Jeff King (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7904) for the tying score.
Hall, enraged by the penalties, engaged Petrino and assistant coach Joe Whitt Jr. in heated sideline tirades.
At one point, Hall had to be restrained by three players.Nuff said.

No direspect to you or Lito Sheppard ...but Lito has come through on many occasions when he is healthy. Of late, Lito seems to have acquired a series of injuries that has kept him performance level down.
Be careful what you ask for ...

Or he could be going through the "Randy Moss Syndrome" where he was just flat out tired of playing for a loser and it showed in his work.
Just sayin....

I'd do back flips, or attempt them anyway, if we could snag Lito from Philly for a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
But it's not going to even remotely have a shot of happening for a variety of reasons, one being that Philly would never trade him to us.

Perhaps ...but in Randy Moss' case he could maintain a certain level of performance that would keep his numbers competitive. Lito couldn't afford to slack off on his numbers without it being detrimental to his stats.
I'm not ready to call him accident prone Just saying ...

...about the potential for Lito Sheppard coming to Dallas!
The Dallas News is saying that Lito will end up in Cinncinnati with a trade for Chad Johnson to Philadelphia.
That's what they're saying in Dallas.
