He’s even worse than we thought! Us Weekly reports that Jessica Simpson’s pimp father, Joe Simpson, brought her relationship with Tony Romo to the brink.
That we pretty much knew going in. But according to the story, Joe’s actions specifically were the main source behind their split in May.

Joe Simpson asked Tony Romo to drop his agent - so he could personally take over his NFL career and $67.5 million contract with Dallas.

He even offered to “sell” his engagement and wedding to a celebrity gossip magazine should Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson get engaged.

As tension grew, the Cowboys quarterback gave the alleged singer and actress an ultimatum: Tell dad to back the hell off!

When asked for comment, Joe Simpson defended himself, saying “It’s unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients.”

“In this business, where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?”

For now, Romo and Simpson are back on, in “a talking stage.” Adds the source of their relationship, “it’s in a middle-of-the-road state.”

If she doesn't tell her Dad to zip it, then Tony should ditch it. :lmao2:

I have a friend who knows Jessica Simpson and many other celebs on some level, not too intimately, but she owns and leases property in LA area and is sort of into the scene. Anyway, she says that Jessica is actually a smart chick. The dumb act is just that-an act and her old man is seriously weird. I think we all were wise to the later by now...

I know a few people out in the LA scene that have met her and said the same thing. She's just selling the sweater puppies any way she can....probably advised to do so by her father. Creepy.

She gave an interview in Dallas this morning before leaving for Nashville to which she addressed this issue. maybe take a listen to it.

This is all so way out of control you wanna hope the drama stops & soon all for the cowboys & the couple involved. There will be no winners in this mess.

This all started from fans that figure they know what Tony's personal choices should be & a game that got screwed up & 7 months later not a damn thing has changed. People still think they know whats best for TONY & Tony can't think for himself. Lets give Tony back his integrity here & do you really & honestly think That Tony would still be in this relationship if he didn't want to be?? Do we really think he would take all this crap if he didn't want to be there. Do we really think this man known as Tony our first rate QB can only think on the field but does not have enough substance to get himself out of a situation that he feels is not leading anywhere. Lets give this guy back his integrity for his own choices for starters & support him. Tony knew Daddy long before he ever met Jess. It serves no purpose fro anyone to have added pressure to TONY. I say a happy man at home is a happy man at work & play. It's no ones choice but his & hers.. You may not like it but you don't have to live with it. Give these two a break & let them figure it out here & quickly so we can move on to excellent ball!!

Joe Simpson: Don’t Blame Daddy
BY: Actress Archives | Friday, June 6, 2008

When news broke that singer, actress, and former reality television star Jessica Simpson and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo’s relationship seemed to be on the rocks last month, it wasn’t long before the rumors started swirling that Joe Simpson, Jessica’s father, manager, and a notorious busybody was the man to blame.

Ever the manager, it seems Joe Simpson was hoping to make some money off of Jessica and Tony’s rumored impending engagement, Joe Simpson was also reportedly trying to convince Tony to fire his agent, so that Joe could manage his NFL career as well as his hefty 67.5 million dollar contract. It seems that Tony was none too happy with his potential father-in-law meddling in his personal life, and warned Jessica that their relationship continuing was contingent on Poppa Joe backing out of their lives.

But Joe Simpson is hitting back against those who blame him for his daughter’s romantic troubles, saying he was only doing what any good manager and father would do. Says Joe to Us Weekly, ““It’s unfair to criticize me for what every manager does for his or her clients. And in this business, where people can quickly turn on you, who better than a parent to be working for his children?" Hmmm…perhaps someone who won’t try and turn all of their major life milestones into financial profit?

Joe also claims it’s love not money that drives him, and all he does for Jessica and Ashlee’s careers. Simpson continued, “A parent will always be there for his kids and never give up on them. I work hard seven days a week for my girls because I love them. Why in the world would I ever want to do anything that would hurt my children?" Hmm…could it have anything to do with those hefty paychecks you’re bringing home, Joe?

Yesterday, I suggested that Tony Romo (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/6624/) get a copy of Toxic In-Laws: Loving Strategies for Protecting Your Marriage (http://www.amazon.com/Toxic-Laws-Strategies-Protecting-Marriage/dp/0060507853/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212592845&sr=8-2) as a signing bonus for his next contract, and that was before I even knew how crazy his in-laws were. From omg! (http://omg.yahoo.com/romo-enraged-by-joe-simpson-s-meddling/news/9594) (omg!):

In its new issue, Us Weekly reports that Jessica Simpson's controlling father Joe has brought her relationship with Tony Romo to the brink and was the main source behind their split in May.

A source tells Us Joe asked Romo, 28, to drop his agent so he could take over his NFL career and $67.5 million contract.

He even offered to broker a deal to sell his engagement and wedding to a magazine should Romo and Jessica, 27, get engaged. "'If you guys have a marriage, I can do the same [sell it] that I did with Ashlee,'" a source quotes Joe as saying.

Papa Joe Simpson as your agent. That seems like a great idea. There's nothing weird at all (http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/archives/newlyweds_nick_and_jessica/2004_Dec_15_joe_simpson_gq) about that guy. I think any father-in-law who's already worried about brokering deals to sell your wedding photos is someone you want making all decisions about your career.

Run, Tony. Run like you're being chased by Michael Strahan (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/2579/).

It's funny at this moment.

It would be ridiculous if Tony followed suit.

Jessica has admitted to playing the dumb blonde for earnings sake. She likens it to Lucy in "I Love Lucy". Wanna guess where that idea came from?

And yes her Dad is a megalomaniac.

She has lots of ties to the area still and the stories go wayyy back about her Dad.

Well It's obvious after what was released today & Jessicas
fashion lines & new ventures just one product alone is expected to bring in 225 million so I say for the third time Jessica will be again in Forbes list of Celebrity earners. The figures out today alone from her marketing firms etc are very exciting.
The girl seems to be becoming her own little empire even with all the backlash. Some of her products can not be kept on shelves. It's all good.

You realize they pay her to use her name. She's not making TONS of money off each item.

I think if you go back & look at what has just been released today & how it all breaks down she actually has made tons of money!! I was shocked myself actually!!
2006 alone was 14 million on entertainment & then her buisness ventures included to that brought her in an estimated 36 million total. Forbes was based on Entertainment alone & I was not aware of that till today with Forbes. Forbes does not include her empire because of her catagory. 2007 is not as good a year for her but you can expect it to soar for 2008. Add any of these figures to starting with her divorce & her payout to Nick & from 2005 & up the girl has bucks & lots of them.
There is more coming out daily on this girls worth & the backing with it.

OH & daddy has no control over her little empire. That is fact. Music he has some say but not this other stuff. NO DUMB BLONDE HERE!!

Guess what. The Forbes list is out today. Check aol news. It has Jessica Simpson on the front page with Tom Hanks. Apparently, Jessica has fallen out of the top 100 after being number 60 last year. It says her last movie made less than $50 in each theatre on it's opening weekend. Like I said earlier while her clothing lines make money, the star selling their name doesn't see the majority of that money.

Timetopass is right...Forbes only rank celebs in terms of their income from Entertainment alone + the buzz the celebs create in media.....they won't count how much the celebs earn from their own business....Jessica Simpson could earn $35 million again this year from her shoes business but Forbes will not rank her because she did not make any impact in Entertainment industry last year....

Tom Hanks and Adam Sandler are out of the list too....even though Adam Sandler earned $30 million.......

What did she do last year in the "Entertainment" world when she was ranked? I must have missed it.

If I'm not wrong, she was involved in quite a lot of projects in 2006....filming Employee Of The Month, hosting Teens Choice Awards, some singing performances, etc..which earned her $7 million last year, from Entertainment alone....If they included her shoes business profits, she definitely earn more...even though the amount was not disclosed....I'm not surprised if she got $10-15 million in total salary last year....
