My ole pappy told me their were glaciers in the Adirondacks 10,000 years ago. He wants to know how they melted and receded ? Too many Indian campfires ?

Ye old pappy was right. They melted and receeded and returned again many, many times. Bet those 10,000 year old Indians were hellacious skiiers too.

Don't know about your neck of the woods but man the hot weather came in all of a sudden.
We had a week of it being hot, temp wise, but little to no humidity. Then we had those storms last week and bang the Humidity has shot up. Been miserable the last few days.

I headed to the ER the other night to get some IVs. But the place was packed so I just went home and drank more fluids. Just did too much in yard work and was not drinking enough fluids like I should.
I tell this stuff is hell on a fat hairy guy.:laugh2:
This is almost starting out like last summer.
Seems like I am back down south with this humidity.

It's warmed up here a lot too in the last week or so.
FWIW, NOAA records "Spring season" as March-May....so it ended May31st.
Just reporting the facts, nothing more.

Man, I hope this global warming breaks up here by next weekend...
By the way, what do we call it when the weather is normal ?

I saw the temps on the east coast. I'm going to Philadelphia area next week and saw the temps are near the 100 degree mark there. However they expect things to get cooler later this week so hopefully temps will be closer to normal when I get there.

Yes...I think we are getting some more rain and possible storms blowing through starting tomorrow so It will cool down while they are going through. But once they pass, bang back comes the humidity. Normally I hate rain because that just means the grass grows faster...I am looking forward to it now just to cool things down.

Just looking at the Philly forecast they are showing 99 for tomorrow but the rest of the week in the lower to mid 80's. Evidently the high pressure off the east coast is starting to move which should bring some relief to the area. At least I hope so. Leaving Houston to go up east I would hope for cooler temps than ours down here.

Well even if the temps are cooler, you are going to philly...which means the smell alone might do you in, those dirty eagles fans and all.:D
On a serious note...have a safe trip and hope everything goes well for you.

I'll be flying out Sat but I refuse to stay in Philly so I have accommodation in Valley Forge area right outside of the city. I figure to get in a couple rounds of golf and go into the city to see some of the historical sites like constitutional hall as well as some other historical sites. Next Tuesday plan on taking the train from Philly and go to New York for the day since I have never been there. This is all part of my east coast swing I have been doing over the last 7 or 8 years.

Sounds like fun. When I was young my pops took me to a bunch of historical sites in PA. That is where his parents live and my cousins as well. Well at that age I, like most kids, just did not appreciate it as much as I would now.
Whole bunch of historical sites in PA. Great place if that is what you are looking to see.
Concerning New York. You should PM juke as he lives there, maybe he could give you some pointers.

Scientist Denounces TV Ads for Deliberately Misleading Public on Global WarmingOil Industry-Financed Ads Misrepresent Global Warming Research Results
- By Larry West, About.com
Scientific Consensus on Global Warming
Prior to Davis' 2005 study, the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said that if global warming were occurring, increased precipitation in Antarctica's interior would likely result. In his study, Davis reported growth in the interior East Antarctica ice mass. He said this growth was probably caused by an increase in precipitation, and made it clear in his study that growth of the interior ice sheet is “a predicted consequence of global warming.” Davis said his study did not include the coastal areas of Antarctica, which are known to be losing mass at a rate that could easily offset or outweigh increases in the interior areas.
"On one of those ads, they [CEI] chose to use the result I published last year to basically say the ice sheets are growing and not shrinking," Davis said in an interview with the Columbia Daily Tribune. "It’s a blatant misuse of our result to create confusion where confusion does not exist."
"Our result is specific to one part of the ice sheet," Davis said. "You can’t use that to say the whole continent is growing. It’s undisputed in the scientific community that global warming is occurring.”
In an interview with The Independent, a British news publication, Davis was asked if he doubted the evidence of global warming. He replied: "Personally, I have no doubts whatsoever."

BUT they have no proof that what is happening in the interior does not outweigh what is happening on the coast. Just more "theories" just like man made global warming.

From the same article:
Public Confused by Misleading Information
A survey by Science magazine (December 2004) of peer-reviewed scientific studies on climate change showed that 928 peer-reviewed papers supported global warming and none denied it.
In a similar sampling of stories from the mass media, 53 percent suggested that global warming is unproven, a perception driven largely by reporters including in their coverage misleading claims by groups such as CEI.
Clearly, the message people are getting doesn’t match the facts—but not in the way CEI suggests.

ANd you can dig around and probably find about as many reports that show doubt and poke holes in it. But you do not care about that=as a matter of fact those like you would be devastated if its shown to be not true.

I have no doubts that the Earth goes through Cooling and Warming periods.
I just do not believe its man made.
And no one has been able to offer real proof that it is.

I have no doubts that the Earth goes through Cooling and Warming periods.
I grew up calling those periods "Seasons" and my family had special names for them like "Fall", "Spring", "Summer", and "Winter".
