Are the Cowboys set up to implode this season?
D_Simmons : 8:55 am
I have never in my life heard more hype towards a team in my years watching football.
-Loud, controversial personalities
-Guys who have been in trouble with the law
-The smirk, arrogant Romo who spends his time in Mexico during the week of a big game, yet has the "perfect look/personality" to be the Cowboys QB.
-They have not won a playoff game since 1996
-You have guys talking trash and then fall flat on their face during big games (Crayton)
-A coach who has never won a playoff game.
-Outside of Terry Glenn, they team did not suffer 1 injury over the past 2 yrs
-A smugass/arrogant QB that has never won a playoff game
Seriously, I know they're talented but where does this hype come from? Is there no other way to spark interest in the league this time of year or earn money so we have to get ****ed up the *** by the Jerry Jones empire?
They have talent but in my opinion, they are set up to implode. Does that mean a long-term implosion? No, but this year, they are set up for a slow start and possible panic when things go wrong.
I wouldn't be shocked if they won 10 games or less this year with yet again, no playoff wins.
Any team overhyped this much never wins it all.

Wow, he threw everything but the kitchen sink...well if you can't get excited about the talent on this team then you just hate the cowboys and nothing will ever change that.
I will agree to one point, we have not won a playoff game since 1996. So we should probably be humble until we actually do something in the playoffs.

The writer needs to switch to decaf.
He does have a couple of points:
- the long playoff drought
- this team has been remarkably injury-free these past couple of years, when compared to other teams. I hope it doesn't catch up with us this year.
Other than that, the rest was a bunch of garbage.

I'm excited. I couldn't care less if they've won a playoff game since 1996 that has nothing to do with my excitement for the upcoming season.

I wouldnt say this team was healthy last year by any stretch. especially when you throw in the fact that gurode, canty, watkins, owens and columbo were hurt in the final month of the season.

Can't understand the claim that we haven't won a playoff game since 1996. Cowboys won the SB in February 1996. We beat the Vikings in our first playoff game in January 1997; went on to lose to Carolina in our 2nd playoff game. That means to me that we haven't won a playoff game since 1997 not 1996. Realize that still means we haven't won a playoff game in a long time but resent some who claiming we haven't won in almost 15 years.
I wouldnt say this team was healthy last year by any stretch. especially when you throw in the fact that gurode, canty, watkins, owens and columbo were hurt in the final month of the season.
Yeah, but most of the injuries were a sore knee here, a bad shoulder there or a turned ankle. All teams get these all the time.
He haven't had any key, core players go on injured reserve the past couple of years. Romo, TO, Newman, Ware, Flozell and others have had relatively minor injuries, but nothing catastrophic.
We have been very lucky. A devestating injury to any one of the above mentioned players can turn what looks to be a very promising upcoming season around in a heartbeat.
EDIT: OK Jason Ferguson.

Check. But so did the 2007 Giants and the 1992-96 Cowboys.
-Guys who have been in trouble with the law
Check. We've always had our share and we have a couple this year. It's one of our trademarks. We're trying to help these young men straighten out their lives. That's all. I swear.
-The smirk, arrogant Romo who spends his time in Mexico during the week of a big game, yet has the "perfect look/personality" to be the Cowboys QB.
Nope. Romo doesn't have a "smirk." He has a grin. Admitted, it's not the drooling, doe-eyed, heavily-medicated look that Eli wears.
-They have not won a playoff game since 1996
-You have guys talking trash and then fall flat on their face during big games (Crayton)
Correction. Guy. Not "guys."
-A coach who has never won a playoff game.
True, but he went 13-3 last year. Just ask him.
-Outside of Terry Glenn, they team did not suffer 1 injury over the past 2 yrs
There have been a few others. The starting nose tackle, Ferguson, was lost for the season last year. Terence Newman missed games. Owens played hurt parts of the past two years. Ellis has missed time. Henry has missed games.
-A smugass/arrogant QB that has never won a playoff game
I thought we already discussed him. Enjoy him for the next 8 years.
Seriously, I know they're talented but where does this hype come from? Is there no other way to spark interest in the league this time of year or earn money so we have to get ****ed up the *** by the Jerry Jones empire?
This was put into place in the 1960s. Marketing has been a hallmark of the Dallas Cowboys from Day 1. It works. Players want to play for the Cowboys. This is like the house on the block where all the kids like to congregate and play. You know, the best yard, the cool mom with the great snacks. That's Dallas in the NFL.
They have talent but in my opinion, they are set up to implode. Does that mean a long-term implosion? No, but this year, they are set up for a slow start and possible panic when things go wrong.
This could happen. But hey, our coach barely has a pulse. Yours looks like his head is about to explode ... or should I say, implode. [/QUOTE]
I wouldn't be shocked if they won 10 games or less this year with yet again, no playoff wins.
Any team overhyped this much never wins it all.
Well, that's the beauty of it. We'll all see. I would venture to say that Dallas has a better chance of winning it all than the Giants have of repeating.

How many years in a row can one team be predicted to implode?
First it was Bill Parcells vs. T.O. that was going to ignite the apocalypse,
Next it was Wade Phillips laid back approach,
Now this... Give it a rest already!!!

Fear is what makes someone write that. He even admits that the team is talented. The reason I'm not worried is because the team that lost in the playoffs the last 2 seasons were relying on Reeves and Nate Jones to come in and cover. Teams just picked on them but they have been replaced by Adam Jones and Mike Jenkins. That new duo right there could be the starters for 50% of the rest of the league. The teams that lost the other 4 playoff games are long gone and have nothing to do with the current team. This team has gotten better year by year and just has one final hurdle. Win in December and carry it over into the playoffs. Once they get a taste of playoff victory, they will be hard to stop!

i think this guys, the post had a couple of true things
first we really havent won a playoff game since 1997, last time was 1996
second, our head coach hasnt won a playoff game period. That to me speaks volumes, with wade's excuse, well we did win 13 games and really if you look at it, we did win a playoff game, it was the bye week, get real,
its like jenn floyd engel said, someone needs to get in wade phillips face in december and say, its not going to be camp cupcake in dedember, you had better win or else period, no more excuses you have the most loadied team,
next, players like Tony Romo must realize fun is fun, but when football starts you have no other life, this is your life, there is no time to party, your suppose to be the captain of this team. Like Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman were, and lead this team. That means in retrospect that Romo must take that next step, when december rolls around he must holld himself accountable and his teammates. Saying this is my team, your not going to mess it up like one time Aikman told lincoln coleman, that Romo studies film in december, stays in town during playoffs, sure he stays loose, but he looks at film with Terrell, Witten, Crayton, etc, asking questions etc, preparing and seeing that the offensive linemen are staying in shape too.
Not taking a camp cupcake in bye week in december or january and going off partying. If you want to be the best and be a champion, you have to pay the price.
You have to show that swagger, that tempo your the best and you wont back down from nobody, when you do that, it shows in your teammates too.

Think you are right. The Giant fans and fans of most other teams are scared to death of us. Geez, a Philly writer came out a few weeks ago and said the Cowboys were the best team in the NFL. Think he wanted to put us in the crosshair so everyone could take a shot. Also probably wanted to gin up the Eagle players so they'd give their best shot against us.
To the victors goes the spoils. Right now the Giant fans are going to be thumping their chest and slamming on the other teams in the league and especially the Cowboys. I just smile and nod my head and wait. Our time is coming
It would make sense if this were simply bragging about the victory, but this post is nothing of the sort. No fan in his right mind is going to admit out loud the better team didn't win last year, so in addition to whatever chest thumping this guy might do on his forum, this kind of post show's the fear of the better team still exists.

Probably about as many years as a team can be predicted to showcase the NFC in the SuperBowl and then do nothing in the playoffs. The ultimate shutup to us is that we haven't won since '96. That is sad and we should definitely remain humble until we prove otherwise.

Unfortunately, I think not! I'm surprised he didn't throw a J/S reference(oh wait, he did indirectly) in for good measure! Methinks someone needs to start a Tony Romo Personal Life Myths thread! For the Giants fan the best team did win because they have the hardware to prove it. He claims we have talent but that we are overhyped and have not won anything and feels we will implode. As I said to the victor goes the spoils they have the hardware we don't. I'm not agreeing with him but until Dallas actually goes out and wins we don't have much of a leg to stand on.

Just putting this out there, but there have been a lot of offseason champs that didn't do much. Carolina after the 05 season (they had some great pick-ups and thought Keyshawn and Steve Smith together would be unstoppable) and to a lesser extent, Washington. Washington before the 2000 season (imagine if we picked up Deion and Bruce Smith just a couple of years earlier, Darrell Green and Deion Sanders with Bruce Smith applying the pressure)... Weren't the Eagles REALLY hyped after 04 too? I tend to tune out most Eagles news as that team in particular seems opposed to objective analysis, everybody has a very slanted view towards them.

There was only one over hyped team that fell on its butt last year and that was the Pats.
We have been hyped THIS off season no arguement.
