Is there a better TV sitcom right now?
When it first came on I didn't watch it a whole lot but I started watching it recently and I gotta say its one of the funnier shows i've ever seen.
Michael is always mad at Toby.
Jim is always pulling some kind of prank.
Dwight is crazy. Pam asked him what if he dies with the spare key and he told her, "if im dead then the rest of you have been dead for weeks."
Ryan started the fire! lol
Just some of the stuff they come up with has me LAWLing so hard.
Im ready for season 5.

UK one was better. I like the US version but it lacks the subtletly and wit of the UK original. The US one started off well but like most US shows, the characters get more and more cartoonish - what made it funny originally was how accurate it was and how it reminded you of people you worked with.

I really loved The Office for the first two seasons. Season 3 was fine as well. But this last season really went downhill in my opinion.
The humor has become much more forced and the jokes lazy.
The thing that made the BBC version so great is that it had a defined "finish line" and the show worked steadily towards that point. They didn't have to keep manufacturing plotlines so that the show could go on into infinity.
I think the first two-three seasons were every bit as good as the BBC version, but now the show is becoming much more like your typical sitcom, and that's unfortunate.
It's still one of the better sitcoms out there, and I still watch it every week, but the quality has gone downhill in my estimation.
For my money, Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best comedy out there right now, although the playing field isn't really level in comparing the two since Curb is on HBO where there are fewer limitations and it doesn't have to churn out as many episodes every season.

Danny,
I liked season 4. I thought there were some really funny episodes in it.
Like Jim getting everyone locked in at work.
The dinner Party.
Toby leaving.
I dont understand why you're so down on that season.

Season 4 starts in September I believe. If you haven't ever seen it, it is definitely worth renting. I think you can actually buy the box set with Season 1 and Season 2 in it for around $30. Definitely worth it IMO.
My Name is Earl is hilarious too if you haven't seen it.

It had funny moments, to be sure.
But I thought it took a noticeable step back in terms of quality of the writing and having solid episodes from beginning to end.
I think at times the writers become lazy once characters are established and they know they can get easy laughs by inserting a "typical Michael" joke or a "typical Dwight" joke. But then to keep getting laughs they have to make them more and more exaggerated and absurd.
Michael is at his funniest when he's right on the edge of what a real person (albeit a jackarse) might do. But more and more often he does things that are so stupid you just can't imagine anyone doing it. Like driving directly into a lake just because the GPS told him to.
Like I said, it's still funny and probably still the funniest show on network TV. But I think it's heading in the wrong direction and the longer it goes on, the more likely it is to head in that way.
The same thing happened with The Simpsons. It was one of the best shows on television for its first 7 or 8 seasons, but as the writers became lazier, then they relied on stock, recycled jokes to the point where the last 5 seasons or so have been totally unwatchable. I'd hate it if The Office got to that point as well.

I love watching The Office.
It's about the only contemporary sitcom I watch.

The Office is the best show ever created. I love it. The characters play off each other so well.
Season 4 was certainly not a letdown in my opinion. How about Stanley going off? "Did I stutter?!!"
I cannot go a single episode without laughing out loud. That is very hard to do. The only show that comes close in my opinion is King of Queens. That was a great show as well.
Season 4 was great. The argument is that, it wasn't on the same level as Season 2 or Season 3. With that being said, it's still one of my favorite shows on TV--can't get enough of Dwight lol

I enjoyed both the US and UK versions. I think they're two different types of shows, and both are good in their own right.

That clip cracks me up too. What episode/season is that?
I love The Office.
There are always perceived duds when trying to maintain those high standards.
Its just a bit part but I love Dwight's cousin Mose. The night Jim & Pam stay at the beet farm, and Mose is on the toilet...
There are just so many classic lines to this show...

It was so subtle, so weird and so funny. The banging outhouse door and the spooky, disturbing sight of Mose peering out out from the darkness through the open door.

A favorite quote from Dwight:
"I try not to ever smile if I can help it. Showing one's teeth is a submission signal in primates. When someone smiles at me, all I see is a chimpanzee begging for its life."
More from Dwight
Jim: "You want great health coverage don't you?"
Dwight: "Don't need it... never been sick... perfect immune system. I can raise and lower my cholesterol, at will."
Pam: "Why would anyone want to raise their cholesterol?"
Dwight: "So that I can lower it."
**********************************************
Jim: "Some of these illnesses are real."
Dwight: " Really Jim? Count Choculaitis? Is it because you know I love Count Chocula?"
