They're , if you're into the tech sort of thing, and they're relatively cheap now at $199.

My phone is on its last legs, and one of these is definitely on my horizon.

They are .

But it's stupid to camp out because the minute that last camper buys his, you can go in and buy one right behind him. THey're not going to sell out.

As for the price, AT&T raised the data/text plan from $20 to $35, so you're paying $15*24 months extra, for a net total of $160 more over the life of the contract.

I would like an Iphone eventually but I am on Verizon... so it happening anytime soon.

With that said... Apple blew it big time.... they could have nailed the market down by having the Iphone available on more than one phone network(AT&T)...

they didnt and now everyone is coming on strong with the "touch phones"... its the future.... and their cut of that pie is relatively small when it could have been a HUGE piece.

Nokia coming on strong.... cant count our Motorola yet either...

This just looks cool as hell. For the technologically retarded, the iPhone has motion sensors, so you can turn the phone left and right to control various features. Here, presumably you control the monkey rolling around in the ball.

The only thing that is superior about the iphone is the looks and its user interface. Everything else is the same as what the other manufacturers have in their phones or inferior technology such as the camera and missing mms functionality.

wrong. they are 199 if you are a current at&t customer...alooooot of people will get screwed cuz of it

http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=3155

Topday AT&T formally announced details regarding the iPhone, including customer eligibility and different pricing plans. The 8GB 3G iPhone will cost $199, and the 16GB iPhone will cost $299. These prices will be available to customers who purchased an iPhone before July 11; to new customers; and to any customer who is eligible for an upgrade discount. Customers who are not eligible for a discount may pay $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Either way, a new two-year agreement is required. At some point in the future, AT&T will offer no-contract availability of the 3G iPhone at the full retail price of $599 and $699 price for the 8GB and 16GB models, respectively. The iPhone will require one of four plans, which bundle voice minutes with unlimited data for web and email use. The unlimited minutes and data plan will cost $130 per month, the 1350-minute plan will cost $110, the 900-minute plan will cost $90 and the 450-minute plan will cost $70. Separate family plans are also available. Messaging is not included in any of these plans and must be added separately. $20 buys unlimited messaging, $15 buys 1500 messages, and $5 buys 200 messages per month. As noted previously, any iPhone customer seeking corporate email support will need a $45 business data plan.

Considering I'm an existing customer, that's not too bad. I pay about the $130/mo now for unlimited minutes and a messaging plan.

Since I happen to like my phone (Sony Ericsson w810i), I probably won't get one...at least for the foreseeable future. So no reason for me to upgrade at the moment.

and why would somebody camp out over night for one???

This very funny article from Cracked.com wonderfully sums up the mentality of those who "camp out" for fad items, and why "camping out" has become such a fad in and of itself.

http://www.cracked.com/article_15773_2007-seven-things-we-should-pretend-never-happened.html
Huddled Masses Lining Up for Bullsh*t

The biggest shortage in 2007 was shortages. In this part of the world, there was so much food and clothes and stuff stacked around us that we weren't really short on anything. This was a terrible source of frustration for us, because it turns out shortages are kind of necessary. They gave us a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

The whole phenomenon was made worse by a wave of adults who were raised in the 80's. Movies like The Road Warrior and Terminator had promised us that by the time we grew up, we'd be living in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, tear-assing around a wasteland wearing leather and firing huge guns at each other, while fighting over precious food and gasoline. Shortages, in other words, were going to give us a blank check to act awesome.

None of that happened and, by 2007, shortage shortages were reaching desperate levels.

iPhone

In June, Apple released a phone that was the same as other phones, except instead of pushing buttons to make it work, you rubbed your finger around the screen. Astonished by this life-changing invention, masses of desperate Americans took to the streets, braving the elements and camping out on sidewalks, clinging to the hope that they may finally escape the tyranny of their cruel, buttoned phones.

These people needed purpose in their lives, and for that one morning, their purpose was to get a f---ing iPhone even if it meant sitting on the sidewalk all night in front of the Apple store.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

In July, fans ranging from age 10 to pedophile lined up at bookstores around the world for the midnight release of the seventh and final Harry Potter book. Unlike the iPhone, there were in fact no shortages of the book and everyone involved knew that stacks of them would be available in every single retail outlet and grocery store in the free world the next day, and for the foreseeable future. No, these lines were purely so that the fans could find out Harry's fate that night, rather than getting a good night's sleep and picking it up the next day.

Here was a line, not for the chance to have the desired object, but only to have it a few hours sooner than their friends, so that they would be first to know that (SPOILER) the good guys win and everything turns out OK (END SPOILER).

Nintendo Wii

In November and December, the Christmas shopping season arrived, a holiday when the Western world celebrates the birth of free-market capitalism. These days, the most important part of the ceremony is declaring one gift to be the "hot" gift of the season and swarming over it like a school of piranha skeletonizing a cow.

The object of the frenzy is usually some mildly amusing toy that the manufacturer has failed to make enough of. In 2007, for the second year in a row, this was the Nintendo Wii. The Wii was an innovation over previous game consoles much in the same way the iPhone was an innovation over previous phones. Instead of pushing the buttons on the controller to play the game, the user shook the controller like a maraca.

This innovation set the bullsh*t-buying public aflame, clawing and scratching each other for a spot in line at their local Best Buy, and paying grossly inflated prices on eBay.

These buyers typically had two or three older game systems sitting unused in the closet, which is where the every single Wii was destined to wind up in just a few years when the cycle would begin again.

I got the DARE about a week ago.

It is not an iphone killer. Its not even close. Its akin to getting the girl with a nice personality. :D

Seriously... the DARE is a cool little feature phone but it is WEAK.
I am sending it back monday.

It is a little better than Voyager(had that one too)... advantage Voyager has is that it has a real qwerty keyboard.

Neither phone is great... good at best.

Cell phones piss me off too. People act like they can't live without them and they get a dang woody in their pants every time they ring. The addiction to text messaging (especially when driving) is just retarded.

I need one just for emergencies on the road. They are very convenient but people can't just keep it at that.

There's nothing wrong with having one and using it for communication, but the obsession is sickening.

One of the posters in here that I knew personally (will not use names) was the all time gossip queen. Biggest girly man in the world when it comes to cell phones, rumors, gossip, and just plain ole being a wad.

I have a $30 refurbished phone on a prepaid plan. I spend $10 every 3-4 months. No reason to be on the phone everywhere I go all the time. I just got the phone a few months ago and it is my first. I don't ever see myself getting into a monthly plan unless they get something reasonable for $20 or less.

The iPhone is a cool piece of technology and fun to play with, but I'm not going to buy one any time soon.

If what's stated above is true, that it's only $199.00 for current iPhone users, that's a disgusting bit of false advertising to spit out on people. No such conditions are mentioned in the TV ad and if it's on Apple's website, they're hiding it very well.

Not to mention you have to bring your SS# and Government issued ID to simply get... a phone? Thats also an iPod? Give me a break, that's over the top.

Its more like Yugo dressed up as a Porsche and with the Porsche's price tag.Not even close. First, $199 for a cell phone isn't that expensive when we're talking high-end phones. Second, the interface is lightyears beyond other phones. This is not debatable for anyone that's actually owned or used one for a considerable amount of time.

By the way, I downloaded the MonkeyBall app -- pretty nifty. Another free app that I downloaded (for the geeks) is a lightsaber app which works with the accelerometer on the phone. When you wave the phone it makes light saber sounds. Not really useful, but definitely cool as hell, and it shows the potential of uses for the accelerometer in games and apps.

Yea the LG Dare is pretty cool, it would be better if it had push e-mail support.

Ive was thinking of getting the iphone but Im not a AT&T customer so I doubt I will spend the extra dough for it, especially when I would have to pay $200 to get out of my Verizon contract. Would of been worth it for $299 but not $499 plus a buyout.

Oh well, guess I just have to keep waiting for Verizon to get its act together and come up with a kick arse phone.

And getting rich as a mo-fo while doing it. My current phone comes with a GPS with every other company but Verizon has that featured disabled on their model so they can charge you for their VZ Navigator. Like it isnt enough that I pay $130 a month for unlimited minutes, data and messaging as it is. They have to limit functionality on phones to really stick it to you.
