Sun-Times political columnist Robert Novak retires
August 4, 2008
FROM SUN-TIMES STAFF REPORTS

Robert Novak has announced his immediate retirement following the diagnosis of a brain tumor, a prognosis the Sun-Times' political columnist describes as "dire."

"The details are being worked out with the doctors this week, but the tentative plan is for radiation and chemotherapy," Novak said.

The Evans-Novak column was first distributed by Publishers Newspaper Syndicate on May 15, 1963, with the New York Herald-Tribune, the flagship newspaper. When the Herald-Tribune folded in 1966, the Chicago Sun-Times became their home newspaper.

I know some have said that he has been a bad driver before this recent accident. However I have to wonder if this tumor did not have something to do with his recent wreck.

Hope he pulls through ok.:(

I would imagine it did. I remember the witness that chased him down said he looked confused and didn't even know he hit anyone...

I was just discussing that incident and the latest news release about Novak with someone here in the office. I'm willing to bet a pretty penny the brain tumor affected his vision and/or judgment. Lots of medical case history for that sort of thing and much more pronounced behavior changes.

He may not see Christmas.
