View Full Version : How many actually watch the conventions?

Aren't tv ratings pretty low? Just how much of an impact do the conventions have anymore?
Now one could say that if you could figure out who is likely to vote and then poll that bunch to see if they watch the conventions then maybe you can figure it out. Has anyone done that?

I couldn't care less about either of them. I'd rather watch Friends.

some old blonde chic was there ragging on bush and saying how 30 years ago we had an energy crisis and today we still have one. our current admin is at fault.
she obviously didn't do well with simple math.

Well, in all fairness to her, Bush was at fault for the dwindling dinosaur population back in the prehistoric days.

I've tried to be open to the DNC this time but my own presuppositions mixed with their alarming lack of substance and hubris has me coming away most unedified from both nights of the convention thus far.

I have been watching it on and off. I watch some of the convention then watch some fungus grow and frankly the fungus is more entertaining.

I've been trying to catch one speech a night. Michelle Obama the first night and Hillary Clinton last night. Overall though, it's pretty boring television.

I watched Bill Clinton and that is about it...the rest of them just say the same ignorant garbage over and over again...Bill Clinton truly has become a loose cannon, you never know what he is going to do or say...I find him very entertaining, but its hard to believe he was once the leader of the free world...

Hmmm...I guess you are right...but on the coverage last night there was a very long segment of him speaking, I guess it was at a previous rally or something?

I don't because I don't care what they have to say. It's all scare tactics meant to stir up people whose minds were already made up in the first place. None of these people can accomplish all the things they promise. I'm usually shocked if they accomplish one thing. We have the same issues facing us that we've had for as many years as I have been voting.

like that generic never should be on tv blonde dinasour from last night saying 30 years ago we had an energy crisis and today we have one.
1. she implied we've had it for 30 years. no, it comes and goes too for a lot of reasons outside any given person in office.
2. she blamed bush for it. many times. however, bush has only been here almost 8 years, not 30. we've got 12+ years of apathy from her side also.
3. man alive, hit me with one more key prhase of fear today!
it just amazed me she ever got camera time at all.

I will catch some on the intertubes the next day or so.
They can be entertaining and if I still drank I would probably be able to make a good drinking game out of watching them.
Could you imagine a game where you had to drink a shot every time someone in a convention (Either party) made a flip flop from previous statements. I doubt you could get through to the end of each night because you would not only get drunk, but you would also run the risk of a trip to the ER due to alcohol poisoning.
However they can be fun to watch if you keep humor in your mind and know they are only out there spouting out rhetoric for their party and also get a good laugh out of all the people that eat that plate of crap right up.
Plus it is fun to see the analysts on each side talking about how one did great and the other did terrible and vice versa.
You know...Part of last week and so far this week, I have just been bored with it all. I can't even muster up fake outrage or interest enough to get things going in the PZ.
I guess it is all just overkill for me right now.:o:

:laugh2: I just can't ever see myself being so sucked into either party to show up at one of those rallies.
If I were you I would get some good ear plugs and a chastity belt as you don't want to hear all the bs and you don't want the politicians trying to take advantage of you. ;)

I really do not want to go... I'm just going for business. I'm having to shuffle my whole week of pee-wee football practices around this damn thing!
One of my clients has a skybox for the whole convention and invited us to it. We couldn't say no and besides, there's way too many potential clients there to not go.
Another client of mine has done an anti-Obama movie they'll be premiering around the convention, and I'm going to that as well.
I managed to get my trip down to one day only... I'm flying in Wednesday afternoon and flying back out early Thursday... so if the politicians want to try to take advantage of me, they'll have to work quickly! :p:
I am happy to be there for the VP candidate's speech though. I've pretty much decided I'm going to make my decision on McCain based on his Veep pick, and so who that person is will be a big deal for me. My hope for a conservative pick is dwindling.
