He did have 4 int's one year. Couldn't be any worse at safety than Dixon or Scott right????

One wonders if his being cut was a message by the interim coach because this guy is a trouble maker or just not a good player.

I would really like to hear what the deal was the prompted him to get cut after beating out arturo in camp.

Dolphins Terminate Edwards' Contract, Waive Bryant

Email this Story

Nov 10, 3:20 PM (ET)

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) - The Miami Dolphins terminated the contract of safety Antuan Edwards, who started eight games this season, but gave no reason Wednesday.

Edwards, 27, made 45 tackles and one sack after winning the job in training camp from Arturo Freeman. Edwards was in his first year with the Dolphins after spending his first three NFL seasons with Green Bay.

The roster move is the first since Jim Bates took over as interim head coach when Dave Wannstedt resigned Tuesday.

Freeman is the leading candidate to start when the Dolphins play Seattle on Nov. 21.

The Dolphins (1-8) also reached an injury settlement with kicker Matt Bryant, who went 3-for-3 on field goals while Olindo Mare recovered from an injured calf. Bryant missed Sunday's 24-23 loss to Arizona with a right quadriceps injury and was replaced by Bill Gramatica, who missed an extra point and was cut Tuesday.

Mare, who practiced kicking during Wednesday's practice, now is the only kicker on the roster.

what could it hurt to bring him in, if nothing else for more depth................

Oh man, I hope we take a look anyway. He's better than Dixon or Davis.

I don't know much about him, but if he was sacked by the new coach right after taking the reins, and that coach was previously the defensive coordinator that should say something.

I'd want to know the circumstances behind his termination before I'd say bring him in.

I would call his agent and get him in Dallas tonight. Then, while he is on his way I would call BAtes or even Wandstadt to find out what the deal was. If it's nothing more than sending a message to the rest of the team then I would sign him.

I can hear the Leprachaun (aka Mickey Spagnola) now...

"If he's so good, why did the Dolphins cut him?"

Seriously though, as long as he wasn't a complete Terrell Owens (aka a$$hole), I'd like the Cowboys to check him out. He's better then Dixon. Can't say he's better then Davis cuz Davis is young and hasn't played much safety. He's likely better then Scott too. Then again... there's probably 15 members here that could be better safeties then Dixon, Davis, and Scott.

I wonder if he was so pro Wandstadt that in order for Bates to accomplish anything he had to let Edwards go. Lets not fool ourselves, Bates is not only auditioning for the Dolphins but for the rest of the league so he wouldn't want anyone who was anti-Bates and too pro-Wandstadt on the squad. Just speculation.

If this was the case, I would bring him in for a look. He may enable Roy to play his proper position.

I'd say bring him in, because we know what we have in Dixon and Scott, and it isn't good.

An infusion of new blood at the safety position couldn't hurt.

according to some article I just read, he was cut due to poor play and giving up too many big plays...

sounds like the same thing we have here, and the Dolphins scheme isnt all that different from ours...

probably isnt worth the trouble

Isn't he a true Free Safety? What the hell are we waiting for?

Well, if he is a true free saftey and he would free up Roy to play SS and get some pressure on the QB it would be worth it. Right now what we are doing isn't working.

then unless Antuan Edwards also brings a replacement for Zim-stupid, like I said...wont make a difference...

No question, bringing in the Dolphins rejects is a step down the right path towards turning this thing around.

new does not necessarily mean good. If he is no better than what we have then why even waste the time. :D
