Palin praised for handling of daughter's pregnancy
Associated Press - 9/2/2008 8:00:00 AM
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her husband are being praised for supporting their pregnant teenage daughter.
Sarah and Todd Palin announced Monday that their 17-year-old unwed daughter is five months pregnant, but plans to have the child and marry the baby's father. The Palins said the young couple will have the entire family's love and support.
Focus on the Family founder James Dobson says the Palins should be commended for living out their "pro-life and pro-family values" even in trying circumstances. He says being a Christian does not mean you or your children are perfect, but that there is "forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord."
Dobson's words were echoed by Bishop Harry Jackson. He says the Palins' support for their daughter Bristol and her willingness to have the baby and marry the child's father show the kind of character that's "proven in adverse situations." Although he is a registered Democrat, Jackson is closer to the Republican Party in opposing abortion, and has co-authored the book Personal Faith, Public Policy with the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins.
Bishop Jackson says Americans do not expect leaders' families to be perfect, but can learn candidates' true character from how they handle difficult circumstances.

I think true support would not be putting her in the position to be scrutinzed in front of the whole nation. In other words putting family first instead of political ambitions.

They did the right thing. You can't hide the fact that she is showing. Were they just not supposed to say anything and let the left break the news? There is absolutely nothing wrong w/ how Sarah and Todd handled this sensitive situation.
You dont like it? Choke on it. It was the right way to handle it.

My point is, mr Palin boy toy, is that maybe if they put their family first they would have said...No thanks I don't think I will accept the offer Mr McCain because my family has a situation right now and I don't want to go on the national stage and embarrass my daughter for the whole world to see just to get further in my political ambitions.

It should not be the daughter worrying about the mother, it should be the mother protecting the daughter.

Get over yourself. She's embarrassed? Where did you hear that? You know for a fact that she is?
Good lord - you know it all. You know exactly what the family discussed?
How on earth do you KNOW WHAT WENT ON w/ her family?
Please - PLEASE PLEASE do not ever ASSUME that you know things when you do NOT.
Did I make that clear? You havent a CLUE about what was discused beforehand w/ Bristol and her mom.

Get over YOURSELF already.
I never said she said she was embarrassed...but excuse me it does not take a rocket scientist to realize that any girl would be embarrassed to have the nation/world stage saying she is an unwed mother only for her mother to say they will be getting married.
As far as boy toy...get over yourself again...I think you want to throw out Mr Know It all so good for the goose?
I don't think I would let my political aspirations get in the way of protecting my family. Family first in my eyes and I would flat out turn down any political request if they came to me with a similar position knowing that my family would be raked over the coals.
Sorry if you don't agree, sorry you don't like it...so be it, get over yourself.

Who said Palin was only looking out for herself and own ambitions when she decided to run? America needs her for its next Vice-President, and she gladly stepped up to the plate.
People who run for political office should be willing to put themselves and their families aside and do what's best for the nation. I for one am glad that she did!

Yes...I say the girl would be embarrassed and it would not take a rocket scientist, or fan boy, to see it.
I don't know many teenage girls that are not easily embarrassed by just some news in a high school, this is country and world wide.

They put themselves before their family and that is the be all end all of it.

In your opinion then again this is not your family, you don't have to deal with it maybe they can deal with it but she should not give up her career because her family and her daughter are human and like any human subject to mistake.
Hell the Kennedy and Clintons have done a hell of a lot worse but this woman is to throw away an opportunity because some idiot critics may say something? Hell if that was that easy to rattler her and her family they had no business in Washington to begin with.

Do you even understand what a "Democracy" is supposed to be? The founding fathers set up our country where people were elected to do what is best for the people and not for themselves. I know that concept is very foreign to a liberal such as yourself, but it makes it no less true. I never said that "all" politicians only think of the nation when running, but just because you haven't seen a Democrat employ that kind of self-sacrifice for many years doesn't mean that it doesn't still happen.

Because her 17 year old daughter made a mistake she should give up the opportunity of a life time? Why is that selfish? Do you know how her family feels about Sarah Palin being in the race? I think the only people who know and the only people who should matter is the Palin family. Instead she is selfish. I wonder if these debates would be the same if it was a man running instead of a woman.

Its not selfish bro. Honestly there are very healthy and real families out there perfectly able to handle situations like this. Because you happen to not agree w/ it doesn't make it some crazy notion of Sarah being selfish.
The Palin family is solid. They are a very grounded family. Now if that bothers you that they all are onboard w/ this, then I am sorry.

She did not kill anyone; she is having a baby that is all. As I said it really should be something discussed within their family and decided by their family. What is good for you or what you may do may not be the same as others and that does not make them selfish just a different view.

Like I previously stated.........never did I say that all politicians do what is best for the country. In fact, I'll agree with you that most politicians in fact only do what is best for themselves. Obama only does what is best for himself. So does Hillary. On the other hand I think that McCain actually does what he thinks is best for the country. That is why you see him crossing party lines and going against his party's platform time and time again. That is the true test of self-sacrifice. By doing something when it isn't popular, but you think that it is the right thing to do. When is the last time you saw a Democrat do that? Joe Lieberman did it for a while and the Liberals got tired of it and kicked him out of their party.
Did Palin choose what was best for her country and run even though her daughter was going to get unfairly blasted and drug through the mud? I think so, but neither you or I can prove otherwise. If Palin decided to stay as the Governor, liberals in Alaska would still have attacked her and her family. You do realize that right? Should she have not run for another term up there? By your logic she should have just stepped down from office because that would have been the only true way of protecting her daughter from the liberal gutter-snipe.

unless the daughter is really outspoken, in most cases, when someone shines a light on you, things can get uncomfortable (not to be equated with embarrassment). Then again, looking at the lifestyle she's grown up in w/a Beauty Queen for a mom and then a politician mother, I'm sure she has dealt with similar situations in the past. We all know it will blow over. Leave the girl alone. It is stressful enough being a teenager, add on that pregnancy, and another layer of national scrutiny.

Of course I say it to him all the time. Ask anyone here. The only reason he comes here is to mainly rub Americans noses in its own political system. That is why I constantly call him out on it.
So yeah...say that I am wrong?
If you want to rip him fine.
Ripping on Canada because of what he says, gets old.

Let's see.
She is my states Governor
I work for her
I voted for her
She is Republican
Normal everyday mother
Sticks to her morals and values
Has HUGE approval numbers here in the state
Done some amazing things since she got into office here in Alaska
This is a surprise that I would like her? Really?
Nothing wrong with supporting her...it just seems that you get REAL defensive...abnormaly defensive when anyone says something about her that's not glowing.
Obviously, I'm not the only one to notice this.

You tend to defend your personal friends.

Defensive when its baseless and nothing to support the argument?
You darn straight I get defensive. I would hope you would do the same if anyone was saying things against Barak and had no proof.
I am not a fan of anyone who just throws things up into the air in hopes that it sticks.
I hope you aren't either.

Has nothing to do with anything.
But since you asked, yes I spent a week and a half in Toronto learning about a new MRI machine we bought.
And have been to Niagara Falls many times.
There's nothing wrong with Canada.

Niagra falls? Nope - nothing wrong there. Toronto is pretty.
Try working w/ it's government to get some things done on the gas line.

I work for my CEO at my Hospital...but I don't know her personally.
Just a question.

We are not personal friends. It is just from work. Her office works very close w/ mine.
Meetings n such.
We kinda have to.
Gas line work - you get to know a ton of powerful players.
27 billion dollar project will do that.

I just love all this outrage about how Palin's daughter has been treated when the same thing was happening with Chelsea Clinton.
I don't know how many times I turned on Conservate Radio and hearing them make jokes about her looks.
Kids should be off limits when running for office.

Daily Kos commenters, as classy as ever:
"If health insurance for all, an end to the Iraq War, an end to torture and illegal wiretapping, and a sane energy policy can be obtained at the price of destroying one teenage girl, her family, and the surrendering our self-respect I see that as a cheap trade."
And:
"Are you telling me that you would not use character-destroying lies to ensure a war against Iran does not occur? . . . What choice do we have? When faced with monsters, we have to be monstrous ourselves."
And:
Are you telling me you would not destroy the love a family holds for one another, even if it meant letting someone who would destroy the constitution become president?

Lohan gets political on blog, sounds off on Palin
Tue Sep 2, 5:44 PM ET
NEW YORK - Lindsay Lohan is getting political.
The 22-year-old actress took to her ******* blog Tuesday to post her thoughts on Republican John McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and the revelation that Palin's unmarried 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.
"I've been watching the news all morning, like everyone else — and (I) keep hearing about the issues related to `teen pregnancy.' ... Well, I think the real problem comes from the fact that we are taking the focus off of getting to know Sarah Palin and her political views, and what she can do to make our country a less destructive place," Lohan wrote.
Lohan suggested Palin "focus on delivering some words and policy with stronger impact like Joe Biden," Democrat Barack Obama's running mate.
The actress, who will guest star on ABC's "Ugly Betty" this season, then put out a plea to parents.
"I think that parents need to recognize how important it is to talk to their children about the things that can result from being sexually active if they aren't protecting themselves (birth control, condoms, etc.)," she wrote.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Less destructive place? Let's start with you no longer getting behind the wheel of a car, soaked in booze.
2) There's no way she knew who Joe Biden was two weeks ago.

Well the race is over folks. When Lohan is supporting Biden or Palin it is over.
Might as well let Russia and the radical muslims take over.
