You'd think he'd have learned by now to speak without clearing his throat into the microphone.
He's got a great voice and stage demeanor, but this grunting into the mic is irritating.
Funny line he had about Teddy Roosevelt.

He sounded like Michael Irvin's HOF speech there... "step up, stand up..."
I think Irvin said: "Get up, stand up, and never give up."

Bad line.
Because of the torture he experienced.
How is that a bad line?

Makes him sound a bit frail, I suppose.
It sounded a little awkward, but I don't have a big problem with it.
Now Lieberman's up.

Its still a bad line IMO. Let me rephrase that. In a media sound byte hungry world its a bad line.

Hey thanks for bringing up that the Dem-controlled Congress is largely unpopular...
but don't bother to mention that it's largely the result of many American's views that Congress has rolled over to REPUBLICAN-LED EXECUTIVE BRANCH "LEADERSHIP" and their failure to impeach the outlaws the Republican Party has blessed us with - or at least work to hold those criminals-in-chief accountable.
Great job Fred!
I think McCain is a heckuva guy. But he is just plain wrong.
I sincerely believe we can dig ourselves outta the mess Republican leadership has merrily guided us into. In the meantime Repubs - take this "time off" to figure out whose leadership led you off the path - and excorcise the influence of those bastids posthaste.

That is your very biased opinion on why the dems in congress have a lower approval rate then Bush. I prefer to think that its because they have accomplished nothing at all except make a lot of hot air.

If you'd ever looked at congressional approval rating trends before, you'd know that you're both wrong. Regardless of who's in power, congress's approval rating is constantly horrible, because "Congress" is an amorphous bogeyman, of which each voter has the opportunity to vote for less than 1% of the total membership.
The Congressional approval rating for the Republican-controlled Congress in 2005 was well below Bush's current popularity, too.
Ask each voter whether they approve of their own Senator and Representative, however, and the numbers are always a lot different.

Zell Miller in 2004.
That was a very strong speech.
I wonder if the Dems will kick him out of their caucus after the next election?

He's not a Democrat. :D
Yes he is....sorta. Here's how it worked. After he supported GW in '04, the dems ran another candidate against him in the primary in CT. The dems turned out to vote the "other" guy in as punishment for Leiberman's "betrayal". However, that vote was party only. He switched to independent and ran in the general election, where independents and republicans can vote, and won by a trouncing. So...that's how he has an "I" next to his name yet calls himself a Dem. He still caucuses with the Dems.

Hey Danny you and Keith Olbermann agree...he counted and Thompson cleared his throat 70 times during that speech.

They were applauding accomplishments that Lieberman pointed out that Clinton had made while in office.
A surreal moment to be sure.

Sounds like he had a powerful speech.

I honestly think Fred Thompson did not want to win.
I think you might be right. Never seen a candidate seem so uninterested.
Don't know what he was thinking unless he was just doing it to raise campaign money and try to pocket some of it.
Really don't know what he had to gain if he did not want to win.

sense of duty? others expected him to? he's toying with the idea but not sold himself on it yet so was gathering public reaction?
lots of reasons but yea, kinda strange on the surface.
