View Full Version : ***PLEASE READ***Some Advice To Avoid An Infraction
Hostile

By far we give out more infractions for circumventing the language filter than any other type. Circumventing means trying to find a way to post the word and get around the filter. We do not want that. The filter is in place for a reason.
Here is the Guideline about it. Please read it carefully.
Offensive language will not be tolerated on this site. This includes but is not limited to circumventing the language filter. This means misspelling a word to get around the filter will not be tolerated. You should be able to express your opinions without using vulgar language. If you cannot express yourself without being vulgar this site is not for you. Before you post anything, it is in your best interest to read it back to yourself, and wonder if there will be an issue with it. If you are not sure, do NOT post the content you are not sure of. Violating this guideline may result in your post being edited or deleted and/or your account being suspended or banned. Now we understand that now and then blue words are the only way to describe something. Now and then. Spell the word out and spell it right.
Let's say the word FAST was a filtered word. Posting the word like this would be a violation...
f@st
fa$t
f***
phast
fazt
f a s t
The only way to post that word that will not cause you issues is fast. When the word is posted it will look like **** and everyone will know what you are trying to say and know that you're a big tough guy using blue words.
If a word is filtered it means we don't want to see that word or any variation of it posted on this site. You can still say the word, but spell it right and let the filter do its job. That's why we have it.
Now we always get back responses about "we're all adults here." Adult means you should know better. That's exactly the way we look at it.
Last thing, be real careful about using filtered words to describe another poster or insult another poster. That and cussing too much are not going to fly at all. Again, we understand now and then.

Just write what you want to say and if it needs to be filtered the filter will filter it. Just know that you can't abuse it even with the filter. (ie cuss like a sailor even with the filter) There is no need for that even if we are all adults (even though we aren't!)

:bastid:
That word and "arse" date back to the previous forum and we allowed them there so we kept some things status quo. Those two have never been filtered.
The only word that was filtered on the other forum that is not filtered here is "retard." It was filtered there when it became a perjorative directed at Quincy Carter and caused some issues with losing good members. You wouldn't believe the drama that caused.
So far that word has not been abused here. I personally have reasons to hate the word and don't use it, but I look past it when others do. One guy who used it quite a bit even pointed out that I laughed at his use of it one time. I was laughing at him, not the word.

Thank you for providing an atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.
Too many people think it's their God-given right to be as obnoxious as they can. And when someone simply asks them to curb their language, they go the whole "First Amendment" argument as if that has anything to do with anything here.
Look, you're required to moderate our language many places in society. Being asked to do so here shouldn't be so hard. And if it is, then that's a sad commentary on the individual, i.e., that he or she is SO out of control that they can't submit themselves and their habits to a simple request for decency.
Again, thanks for laying down the law. :)

When scientific terms are blocked for no real good reason (face it people younger than anyone posting on this board use them every day), it might have gone too far but then again I am just a dumb lib from north of the border who has no morals :D

btw, when you say family friendly, what is the average age of posters here?
as an aside, why not create a subforum where the adults can write whatever they want, post links to whatever video they want and post adult oriented jokes, have a pop up which states you enter at your own risk and that sensitive ears and eyes should stay out? wouldn't that be a good solution to the issue? Then you can have a zero tolerance policy on the rest of the board (although I admit the only thing I have zero tolerance for is zero tolerance but I digress).

Chances are even if they did, they would leave in a second as this is not a site someone like that would remain at given they won't find what they want.
As for your daughter, I suspect she hears far worse at the play ground or in school than she would ever see here, filter or not.

I guess the phrase pink taco gets a pass because someone could be actually talking about a pink taco, as weird as that sounds. Nope. You call the guy fast just as you intended to say, instead of trying to get around the original spelling, and let the filter serve its purpose.
If that still doesn't work you can say, "That guy is imparting quickness of motion or conducive to rapidity of action ."

There are sites that are made for just this thing. They are quite liberal in their policies, and have far more members than this one. I am actually a member of one.
This, however, is a niche site for Cowboys discussion. Yes, we have other sub forums that get some use, but the main purpose and traffic of the site is obvious. What point would it serve to have a subforum where anything goes, when that isn't the market this site tries to appeal to?

for the same reason we aren't allowed to bash the US, hell to some questioning US policy is bashing the US :p:

the best way to avoid the infraction is to not use filtered language at all.

does the person using vulgarity know the non-vulgar substitute?
since they do not use the non-vulgar approach, it would appear they do not.

So if I am smart and educated, I won't use curse words, but if I am smart and educated and I use curse words I won't be as bad as people who are stupid and use curse words. But then if I was smart and educated I wouldn't be using those words anyways so there is a good chance I am paying too much for my car insurance. I think I get it now.

judge much?
Unfortunately, this site is fighting a losing battle. Those words are now on tv every night, they are now part of every day speech. Right or wrong that is the case.
When scientific terms are blocked for no real good reason (face it people younger than anyone posting on this board use them every day), it might have gone too far but then again I am just a dumb lib from north of the border who has no morals :D
Of course, I judge. I judge ISSUES. So do you. Let's not go there.
As for fighting a losing battle, I doubt this site will shut down because it doesn't permit vuglarity and profanity.
And I might offer this correction. Those words are a part of some people's every day speech.
Not mine. Or is that judging to you? ;)

btw, when you say family friendly, what is the average age of posters here?
as an aside, why not create a subforum where the adults can write whatever they want, post links to whatever video they want and post adult oriented jokes, have a pop up which states you enter at your own risk and that sensitive ears and eyes should stay out? wouldn't that be a good solution to the issue? Then you can have a zero tolerance policy on the rest of the board (although I admit the only thing I have zero tolerance for is zero tolerance but I digress).
Other places on the web exist for that. It's not like it's hard to find. ;)

Other places on the web exist for that. It's not like it's hard to find. ;)Reminds me of this from the Guidelines...
Questionable images will not be allowed. The definition of questionable is entirely up to the staff. If a member of the staff contacts you about any image, remove it immediately. This guideline includes avatar images, signature images, images in posts, and links to sites that have questionable images or words. Nudity, or near nudity, will not be tolerated. This is a football discussion site. If you wish to look at those images, go look at them elsewhere. If you wish to share these images with friends, do so through e-mail. We are not telling you not to share these images, just do not do it on this forum. Political Avatar and Signature Pictures will not be allowed. Violating this guideline may result in your post being deleted and/or your account being suspended or banned.
