View Full Version : Wiley almost had a pressure last game!!
All he needed was the O-Line to move out of his way and for Carson Palmer to run directly in front of him. Wiley hasn't seen a sack since the Oakland preseason game when he "destroyed" 3rd and 4th stringers who didn't make it in the NFL. I'm sure those scrubs are shaking in their boots thinking of how Marcellous had his way with them!
Seriously, Marcellous " Manster II" has 13 total tackles in 8 games. That equates to 1.625 tackles a game, 26 tackles total on the year. On a 4 million a year salary that is $153,846 per tackle. He also has 0 sacks, 1 tackle for loss. Which projects to 0 sacks all year and 2 tackles for loss.
Now that is truly money well spent.

He had a sack and a few pressures in the Tennesse preseason game. Wiley has been a major dissappointment, but really that entire line has been bad including Ellis. Where has Ellis been the last 2 games? Glover? Carson? The commercial guy?
I think the reason we have had almost no turnovers is because of a terrible D-line. How many times we see these guys hitting a ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage? Or trying to strip a ball?

Yeah Wiley's production, or lackthereof, has been discussed a lot here.
Fact is, most of us already knew he sucked before we even signed him. I sure did. I was against signing him from the beginning. Mainly cuz he had been playing LE in S.D., and we needed a RE. The Ellis to RE experiment failed and now we're stuck with a POS at RE, and it doesn't make it any better then Zimmer's scheme is an opposing QB's best friend.

And you can imagine Ekuban has Parcell's photograph taped to the bottom of his toilet bowl where he can send Bill little gifts now and again for his fine treatment of him here in Dallas.

Oh come on, nobody knew he would be this bad. He was playing in San Diego surrounded by a terrible team. He was a risk but the Cowboys needed to try to upgrade.

I knew he was bad. Add that in with our terrible defensive scheme and you've got disaster.
By the way, Ekuban is on pace to get 10 sacks this year.

Maybe Ekuban needed a new start. I dunno. But Parcells has said that sacks dont measure how well a Defensive lineman has played. I will not jump on the Ekuban bandwagon.

Agreed....but Wiley has been a step down from Ekuban.
I can't believe I just typed that.
But it's true.
Coming into the game last week, Wiley had 9 tackles, no assists and no sacks in 7 games...
Zero sacks...you'd figure that the QB would sooner or later just trip in his vicinity and Wiley would fall on him...
Worst FA acquisition in our team's history...
And that's saying alot.

I'm surprised that any D lineman in Zimmer's idiotic scheme gets a sack.
When you first have to make sure it is not a running play and then attack the QB it makes it ten times harder.
Ekuban is proving this in Cleveland.

How do you know they aren't playing the same scheme in Cleveland? Remember it was under Campo's watch that this team established a record for most 200 yard rushers given up in a single season. I wouldn't be so quick to say they aren't playing the same scheme as they are in Dallas.
And on top of that we played a "run-first" scheme here in Dallas for a few decades and it was called the "Flex". As I recall we did OK with it. As a matter of fact we had one DE establish a pretty high sack number (22) as I remember.

It's an odd thing...declining production by the guy..and if you watch him, he looks simply awful....I'd love to see a few clips of him from last year...If you watched Ekuban, he had zero production...but he looked quick, etc...If Wiley looked similar, then I'd understand the signing...but he LOOKS awful...he looks lumbering, unathletic, and weak...
On the one hand, we played it close to the vest with free agency this past offseason...and on the other we put together a 4 year, 16 mil contract, with a 4 mil signing bonus for Wiley. Go figure.
That's why I wish we would have just had a "youth" philosophy...save the money...target 2005..and go from there...
Oh well, so much for hindsight...

I am not sure what Ekuban has proven. The Cleveland defense uses the same scheme as we use.

Damn fossils...stuck in the past... :)
I always wondered what would have happened if Landry had scrapped that flex when we had a defense that started guys like Randy White; Harvey Martin; Too Tall; Hollywood; Cliff Harris...can you imagine if Landry would have utilized an aggressive attack defense with those guys...GeeeeeezLouise....

It's funny, when we played the Browns, i looked on their message boards and they were complaining about Campo using a scheme that doesnt get sacks or turnovers.

Zimmer ran Campo's scheme the first year he was a DCoord. We gave up three 200 yard games to different RBs that year. He changed the scheme after that.
It's not the same scheme.

Worst FA acquisition in our team's history...
I say Quentin Coryatt edges him out there because he was on the field all of 3 plays in his Cowboys career.
