One thing that I found interesting is his reference to actuary tables that show McCain has a 1/3 chance of not making it through his first time. Anyone know if there's any sort of truth to this, it seems like a rather flimsy statement.

Obama could drop dead of a freak heart attack himself.

Exactly. I looked it up and found the information ol' Matt was talking about, from Daily Kos:
Social Security Administration maintains (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/STATS/table4c6.html) statistics on life expectancy and death probabilities. John McCain, who turned 72 today, has a 3.3% chance of dying before his 73rd birthday, 0.6% chance of dying before the elections and a 1.3% chance of dying before the inauguration.
McCain will be just over 76 on Election Day, 2012. He has a 15% chance of dying before then. He will be 80 for the 2016 elections – and a 32% chance of not making it.
If McCain gets elected in November, and maintains his incumbency 4 years from now, chances are 1 in 3 that we will see Ms. Palin as President.
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/30/32755/2087/846/579879
Like you said, genetics play a large role in life expectancy so these numbers can just be taken as averages. The 1/3 chance is if he were to serve his first term and a significant portion of his second term. I would be interested to see a similar table for a 47 year old smoker though.

47 year old smoker and former cocaine user.
Plus, I thought everyone was convinced that Obama was going to be assassinated since America can't tolerate a black President?
Are we really willing to have Joe Biden as President.

Deepak Chopra opens mouth; IQs plummet.
"Palin is the reverse of Barack Obama, in essence his shadow, deriding his idealism and exhorting people to obey their worst impulses. In psychological terms the shadow is that part of the psyche that hides out of sight, countering our aspirations, virtue, and vision with qualities we are ashamed to face: anger, fear, revenge, violence, selfishness, and suspicion of "the other." For millions of Americans, Obama triggers those feelings, but they don't want to express them. He is calling for us to reach for our higher selves, and frankly, that stirs up hidden reactions of an unsavory kind. (Just to be perfectly clear, I am not making a verbal play out of the fact that Sen. Obama is black. The shadow is a metaphor widely in use before his arrival on the scene.) I recognize that psychological analysis of politics is usually not welcome by the public, but I believe such a perspective can be helpful here to understand Palin's message. In her acceptance speech Gov. Palin sent a rousing call to those who want to celebrate their resistance to change and a higher vision."

By that logic, McCain should be fine since Reagan survived his 8 years.
Agreed?

not exactly since he is what 4 years older than what Ronnie was in 1980 and by the end of the 8 years, Ronnie's mind was going.
Still, the old guy looks in decent shape and it isn't like the President won't get the best medical care available so him surviving should not be an issue.

First of all... I don't like Bush (W that is), but there is no solid evidence he was ever a cokehead but we have heard that for the past 8 years. Clinton on the other hand, got away with "not inhaling" and several substantial rumors of coke use...
I wouldn't doubt he was, but it's always stated as a matter of fact... which it isn't...

As they are now showing with Palin.

"Hi....I'm Matt Damon.....I'm not an actor...But I play one in the movies!"
Duck Famon!
He should stick to his life's calling... playing Jason Bourne...
Actually, as a fan of the book series his name is David Web who thinks he's Jason Bourne, whom he doesn't know ???
He was sent to kill Carlos the Jackal.
I'd be more than will to bet that the character he portrayed in movies would be more inclined to vote for McCain than Obahma...But don't let what makes you money get in the way of your real ideals.
I wonder if he had 2 movie roles to choose from...One is a captured prisoner of war and the other a community organizer...Which role might he think would make him more money...which would he choose ?

Damon is an actor who cares what he thinks. He can hang out with the rest of the Hollywood trash if he wants to but I would not put that crowd in charge much. They can't handle their own lives but want to tell everyone else how to live theirs. Go get a reality check Matt.

The major difference being, we do not have a national platform to do that.
I didn't watch the video, because I really don't care, so I can't comment on his comments, but we can't ignore the fact that these things are put out, with people that are considered popular or influential, for a reason.
The man in the street get's very little face time, because he's not 'popular'.

I never said you weren't. I find this whole partisan politics quite laughable actually. I often see the same people on one side or the other, "arguing" for their candidates by either ridiculing or attacking their counterparts.
Bush went to Yale, and most likely got in only due to the privilege of his family name.

The whole political thing is laughable then you offer the statement below? :laugh2:
Bush went to Yale, and most likely got in only due to the privilege of his family name.
You are no different than anyone else on here... you can't see your own bias...
btw... Bush went to Yale and then earned his MBA from Harvard. He was our first president with an MBA, but I'm sure daddy bought that as well...
I didn't vote for Bush but the attacks against him are laughable. It's funny, people jump all over what Scott McClellan says as truth, but he also said Bush was highly intelligent and more than intellectually capable to be president. They leave that out. It's selective beliefs to support a specific agenda...

I never said I wasn't any different than anyone here. And I never said I didn't have a bias, and I can see it very well thank you very much.
The fact is, I considered myself pro-Bush prior to 2000, and could have been considered a Republican prior to the election in that year, although I was registered as an Independent. After four years of Bush, I did not vote for him in 2004, because I didn't like what he did.
I never said Bush wasn't smart, although I do have my doubts considering the job he has done post facto.
It takes more than just smarts to get into an Ivy League college such as Harvard and Yale, and being part of a family with a privileged name goes a long way.

You're welcome...
I was also pro-Bush at one time but also didn't vote for him in 2004 as I couldn't stomach his spending habits among other things...
Bush can honestly be judged years from now. Much like draft picks, you have to take the whole body of work in relevance when it can be viewed objectively...
Of course family name helps to get you into certain schools, but you also have to make the grade...

Funny, Damon says "I don't know anything about her" then later says "We can't have that" at the possibility of her becoming president.
Why don't you learn about her before you flap your gums, Moron.
I doubt he knows anything about Obama either but he's hollywood's "Fad" pick so he goes with that just like all the other cattle out there.

Bingo!!! the whole argument about not knowing Palin or her lack of experience from the left is laughable. Especially when their candidate is Obama.....lol
