View Full Version : A Somewhat Forgiving Take On The Whole Situation

I'm as disgusted as everyone else by how our team has been playing recently. Suddenly we seem like the oldest, most uninspired team in the league. However, after 1.5 seasons of Parcells, we're still one game over .500 (including last years playoffs.) Now that isn't great, but after traversing the Siberian landscape of the Dave Campo era, it certainly isn't that bad either (especially considering our marginal talent.)
For me, the key from here on, is how Parcells gets us ready for 2005. I hate the 'building for next year' mentality', but with the way we're playing now, it's the best option. Hopefully for the last 3-4 games, we'll get a look at Julius Jones and Henson and we'll have a better idea of what guys like Crayton, Morgan, Lee have to offer. As for the defensive side of the ball, that's where we need to turn our full attention in both free agency and the draft. While we don't want to get saddled with any ridiculous salaries (ala the Skins a few years ago), we can't afford to play it close to the vest either. Abraham, if available, must be our top priority, followed by Rogers. Then in the draft try and get Rolle and another blue-chip d-lineman. We also need an influx of new talent at linebacker. Any enticing free agent linebackers out there?

There are two things I want out of this draft; a legitimate deep threat to start opposite Keyshawn (Glenn is getting old and Morgan seems injury prone), and a fix for the defensive backfield (RCB/FS) positions.
I too want to see if we can fix the D-Line (one big run stopping DT and one pass rushing DE) through FA and I don't mean with Ham-n-Eggers like Wiley (even with Zimmer's screwy system he should be better) but with top notch players.
I think those 5 positions will fix this team for next year assuming Henson and J. Jones pan out. We still have one more good year left in Coakley so I would wait a year to start working on the LB corp.

I don't want to see what Crayton and Lee are. That is marginal NFL talent. What do we really have to show for past 1o years of drafting?

2004 draft doing nothing for us, nothing
Just went age at QB and lost a year to the NFL due to a Zero impact draft.
Throw Drew in we will lose another next year.

Crayton and Lee aren't worth looking at? Glad you're not the headcoach. You can't leave any stone unturned. And what do we have to show for the past 10 years of drafting? And yet you have a quINTcy Carter picture under your name. :D Typical.
Boy you walked right into that one. LOL

I would love to see Mike williams in a cowboy uniform next year :D

I'm assuming you were talking about pro-bowl level talent and not just starters, so I'd say add Jason Witten and remove Coakely (who becomes more of a liability with each passing year). Several young players have a chance to develop into the kind of smart supporting cast Parcells loves, but none into true difference makers.
Of the key NFL positions, on that list we have LOT and one CB. The remaining positions-- QB, RB, #2 CB, #1 WR, and pas rushing DE-- are vacant or band-aided. In the NFL these days, filling those positions is like finding a whole new team. Even if Drew and Julius are "the answer" at two of these spots, the other three positions are still very difficult spots to fill.

Do you realize Glenn is 2 years younger than Key? If Glenn is too old, Key is already there.

You realize Lee wasn't even starting at a Division 1-AA school and was undrafted?
Crayton is an athlete project kind of without a position.
You keep banking on that type talent and you can look forward to LOTTERY PICKS.
Yes, Quincy was a reach pick for Dallas at the time. A bad pick. Jury still out if cutting him for VT was wise :p

Where would Dallas be in the 90's with out K-Mart Larry Brown and guys like that all of them made plays all them where just good NFL Players but they also made big plays at times.
You have to have guys liek Crayton and Lee step up to. It is not all about the super stars the super stars can not get it done with out the other guys.
It takes both types of players playing as a team.
