Microsoft to announce Jerry Seinfeld ads cancelled tomorrow (http://valleywag.com/5051455/microsoft-to-announce-jerry-seinfeld-ads-cancelled-tomorrow)

Remember those awful Microsoft ads with Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates (http://valleywag.com/5048804/bill-gates-spending-retirement-awkwardly-starring-in-commercials)? Well, now you can forget them. Microsoft flacks are desperately dialing reporters to spin them about "phase two" of the ad campaign — a phase, due to be announced tomorrow, which will drop the aging comic altogether. Microsoft's version of the story: Redmond had always planned to drop Seinfeld.
The awkward reality: The ads only reminded us how out of touch with consumers Microsoft is — and that Bill Gates's company has millions of dollars to waste on hiring a has-been funnyman to keep him company. Update: In a phone call, Waggener Edstrom flack Frank Shaw confirms that Microsoft is not going on with Seinfeld, and echoes his underlings' spin that the move was planned.
There is the "potential to do other things" with Seinfeld, which Shaw says is still "possible." He adds: "People would have been happier if everyone loved the ads, but this was not unexpected."

it's too bad that Seinfeld pretty much fell off the face of the Earth after Seinfeld

The ads were a little odd, but I didn't hate them.

this was my boat and probably why the plug got pulled. they just didn't make sense. it's like a collection of private jokes strung together.
i hated seinfield and this didn't help any. he wasn't funny, he was just repetitive.
a really big salad? oh yea, it was a really big salad! wow, that IS a big salad! didn't i tell you it was a really big salad? yes, but this is a "in stereo" really big salad!
sigh.

I will say that I like Seinfeld... think his show and his humor are generally funny...
... and I still didn't get those commericals.
What a colossal waste of $10 million.
Also, note to Microsoft, Bill Gates isn't exactly a likeable personality.

Oddly enough most people I know that liked the seinfeld show, always felt he was the least funny of the cast.
Most people liked the other characters more than jerry.
Never did think he was that funny but the show was because of the other members of the cast.
Those Microsoft commercials were pretty lame.

I watched the show now and then and all the episode I saw George Costanza and Kramer where what made the show funny

I would agree with that.
And now, if you watch Curb Your Enthusiasm, you see that Larry David was probably responsible for most of what was funny on Seinfeld.

I agree.
The show was great, but I don't think it was necessarily because of Jerry.
The other main characters were perfect, including the minor roles, such as Newman, Jerry's parents, George's parents, Puddy, Crazy Joe Davola, etc.

I remember a buddy of mine kept trying to get me to watch Seinfeld the first season but I would not. Kept telling him that I just don't think he is funny after seeing his standup routines on specials.
Finally he got me to watch it and I loved it, but not because of Jerry, more like in spite of him.
Also as Danny says, Larry Craig plays a major role in how funny that show was.

Another show I have tried to watch but don't find funny.
I have only watched it a few times, but when I have...I have found it hillarious.
He is kind of annoying like sienfeld in that always whining neurotic woody allen kind of way. But still the few I have seen had me rolling.
I need to go through one day when nothing is on and catch them on demand.
One I seen with him and some hooker and trying to get some mary jane for his elderly father was killing me.

Yes but keep in mind that the base of the show is Jerry Seinfeld. Larry David was a big part too.
Oddly enough is... those other more liked characters cant get anything else going solo. Herry was the platform and made the show go.

Again. Alone they got nothing.
I would agree with that.

Larry played a big part no doubt. Collaboration would be accurate. His show is a adult version of Seinfeld.
I love CYE. Great stuff.
By the way... I am nowhere near a big fan of Seinfeld but gotta give credit where its due.

What exactly has Herry (just messing with you) done since?
At least the others have either gotten shows (whether they have lasted or not) and in some cases roles in movies.
Far as I know Jerry has not done much more than some standup and the recent commercials.
So...not sure if that logic works.
Although he was the base of the show as everything centered around him, I do get that aspect. I think they even had an episode where they, the other characters, could not have much of a conversation unless they were talking about jerry. So I get that part of it.
Just don't agree with the logic that they have done nothing since so that means it was all jerry, when they have done just as much, if not more, than jerry since the show ended.

Herry... errr... :D I mean Jerry really hasnt looked to do anything. My understanding was he was done with shows atleast for a while.
The others got shows based on their Seinfeld connection. Julia had to have her TV exec husband bring her show back from cancellation about 3 times.
While I agree that each of the other Seinfeld characters are funny to me... they just aint figured out how to do it without Seinfeld.
We agree to disagree.. my logic actually fits pretty well.

I kept seeing the same one over and over, and not only was it not remotely funny, but Gates is about as interesting a brick wall.
Maybe they should have hired Larry David to write the commercials.

was in tampa with the man this last weekend for some MMAXFC bouts he's now promoting and my radio side is helping with. he graces "the backroom" when he can but he's more into reading and going than posting these days. i gave up posting in the cowboys forum cause it was all the same to me and i'm sure that was making it no fun for others.
he's actually the one who sent me the link originally cause neither of us could figure out where the hell the commercials were going. but on the bright side, he, christian and i found out i look like our waitresses at hooters father who died when she was 12.
strange way to welcome people to your table, huh? later on i found out she wanted to be an interior designer and i said i had a double wide coffin i could use some help with.
she didn't appreciate our humor.

I like the show but im burnt out on it.
Id rather not watch TV than watch Seinfield.
Its an amazing show but if you've seen it a gazillion times it seems like every episode is the same.
The office is my new show. Best show on TV imo
