I have a friend that just started coaching a Youth Football team. He has class C players. Basically the players that no one else wanted.
Anyhoo.... he is 0-2 and hasnt scored any points.
His kids are playing lackadaisical and giving up.
I need a play, something that they can work on over and over... something, anything to get them to score. They have 10 games and I fear that if they go 0-5 and not scoring ANY points that the last 5 will be a nightmare.
The first points are always the hardest... but then things could happen.
Any and all advice is appreciated.

Very easy.
Learn the old Green Bay power sweep. You could teach a team of monkeys that play, and if executed properly it's unstoppable.
Lombardi won 5 championships with it.

The Redskins' Counter Trey is another variation of the same play.
Gibbs won 3 Championships with it.

They can both be ran to either side.
Tell him to teach it and run it over and over in practise until they've got it down. I won't guarantee a win, but they'll score and have fun.

How old are these kids?
I would work on the simple toss play.
Also just the typical handoff with a receiver coming in motion like a reverse.
Sometimes give the reverse. Especially in little league.
Dont be scared to put one of your better athletes at tight end and give it to him on a reverse too.
What ever keeps the ball out of the air for young kids is usually the best way to go. Thats why I like simple mis-direction plays.

Thanks. Good ideas.
They are 9-11 years old. All the kids that the A & B teams didnt want.... oh yeah and the kids that the other coaches didnt want to deal with their parents lmao

Go rent the Little Giants and make them watch it before the game.

I have 7 year olds, and I started pretty heavily with the power sweep very similar to the play outlined above. Our best play, though, has been the reverse off of that same formation.
We run all of our sets out of the single-wing with two backs set about two yards behind the center, where either the 1 back or 2 back can receive the snap.
Do what Parcells, Sparano just did - LOL

I'll take "not the friend's team", and give 14 1/2 points, for a C-note!

Just think of as many basic plays as possible and think of different ways to run misdirection off those base plays.
If you run a toss then also have a toss play where the RB hands it to a receiver on a reverse.
Full Back dives are always good for easy yards. Then fake the fullback dive and let the QB keep it on a sweep.
Just take your basic running plays and make sure you have misderection plays for all of them.
I'd be scared running those counters with younger kids because if they cant do it fast than the persons guy that is shaded over him (guard would have DT) than the DT can easily get in there and make the play.
Now if you have a kid who can pass and players that can catch you have an entire new demension you can use.
If not than just run the heck out of misderection.

Just anything out of the Simple I formation and give it to the fullback.
http://incolor.inetnebr.com/mays/WideR11Dive.gif
That play right there is actually the option but your guys may not be able to execute that. They would have to read the ends and all that good stuff.
Either call Fullback dive or Fullback dive keep and on the keep just tell your Quarterback to fake to the fullback and run to daylight.

...will be hard way to start if the kids aren't willing to give football an honest shot.
If your friend can get them to understand that even successful, but basic, plays need some dedication to them.
Given that, sweeps and counters are a good place to start. Finding the one kid who can follow the design of the play, then make a cut back against the flow of the defence is possibly the most consistent way I have seen kids under 13 have success in football.
More often than not misdirection designed in the play will be moderately successful. At this age what is more successful is to challenge their ability to keep backside containment. My experience is that most coaches ignore in their drills this inherent deficiency.
Wide receiver or slot back reverses are strong misdirection plays that work.
If you want to use the counter trey have the backs take more than just the single step to the opposite side. Start them deeper back off the QB and let them take at least three steps to pull the LBs in initial pursuit before turning back with a counter.
Once pee wee aged kids start their first three running steps to flow to the ball most have difficulty changing directions without losing momentum and burst to the ball.
Good luck.

Keep it simple I formation and such no passes. Tell him to get have races find his fastest player and put him a RB. Then do Half back toss right and left.

Link dump acceptable? I haven't visited some of these sites in years, so don't even know if they're all up (I last checked last September - it's my "study football" month). If any are down, you can use the wayback machine (archive.org). Most of these sites obviously aren't advanced and wouldn't have blocked spiders/bots, so the past should be there.

Take the biggest guy on the team and put him at fullback and have the tailback just follow him through the line. The linemen just need to tie up the d-line...let Gigantor get some momentum rolling and they should get an easy 4 yards a pop.
