View Full Version : I Hate Elections

I am already so sick of the political infighting.
Once again, nothing is going to get done. Not a blessed thing.
Hate of the other party is useless. Other than the photos thread there hasn't been anything worth a squat posted in this forum in over month.
We need a viable third party to end this kind of wheel spinning. It probably won't happen in my lifetime. Maybe it won't ever.
The same political promises I have heard every election since I was old enough to vote are being discussed. That means I'm still waiting for promises from 28 years ago to happen.
Well, I'm really not waiting. I knew better.
We've had 8 years of the GOP after 8 years of the Dems and in those 16 years I don't see a whole lot of progress. Back in 2000 when the market was struggling after the whole hanging chad thing a rep from the Dem party in Tucson told me that "who the President is has very little to do with the financial markets." Anyone want to bet me if I call the same Dem HQ offices they will talk about the bad economy under this President and his party?
Buy the sales pitches it if makes you happy.

I wish I could remember every political promise that we have heard that hasn't come true.
Actually, no I don't.

Not true. My "incestuous pervert" thread was a hoot.
The Feds can only impact my life in two ways: 1) sending me off to war (but I'm too old), or 2) raising my taxes. For that reason, I pay much more attention to state and local elections. McCain and Obama can't help with the potholes, the dead streetlight, or my garbage not being picked up.

3rd parties are not necessarily the answer.
Up here for our October 14 federal election, we have five parties, four of which are national, one of which is only in Quebec (that does not include some of the fringe parties like the Christian Heritage Party etc).
Having that many parties basically guarantees whoever wins the election, likely the Conservative Party of Canada will only have between 35-38% of the votes cast.
If they only get a minority government, it will be the third straight one.
I agree your choices are not great, but adding another will not necessarily make it better.

I know that while my vote won't go to a winner. We (America) need to see voters showing they are ready for something different. You won't get that unless more and more people start "not" voting for either of the major parties. Its a process that could take many cycles.
But, if we ever reach the day of a Centrist Party. That will be the day the American political system is back on the right track.

I agree, Hos. And I would add another reason to dislike elections: the two party system and the pervasive intellectual dishonesty it seems to breed in so many of us.

I agree, Hos. And I would add another reason to dislike elections: the two party system and the pervasive intellectual dishonesty it seems to breed in so many of us.I just hate the "that guys is a Liberal therefore I must hate him" or "that guy is a Conservative therefore I must hate him" mentality.
I don't like Rush Limbaugh, but you know what? I like a lot of people who listen to the guy. Does listening to him make someone a horrible person? Does liking him make them horrible? Not in my world.
We've got Conservatives in here who can't get past Clinton and he's been gone for nearly 8 years. I already know the Liberals will not get over Bush.
You know what cracks me up? I apologize to the Liberals I am about to offend. If I see a car with a Conservative bumper sticker there is usually just one. Most likely a McCain sticker, but it could be a Conservative slogan or maybe an NRA sticker. If I see a car with a dozen bumper stickers on it I know even before I can get close enough to read them that they are Liberals and 4 or 5 of the bumper stickers will be anti-Bush. My gosh, the 2008 election is upon us and I still see Kerry/Edwards in 2004 bumper stickers.
The media and Hollywood are Liberal biased. Yeah, and this is news how? If it isn't news, why are we worried about it? Does anyone really think they are going to change because they've been "outed?"
Maybe I'm a Utopian, but I wouldn't trade it for the paranoia I see every day on this forum. "Damn Libs." "Damn neocons."
Naw, I say damn it all. If you are happy with your political party then you aren't paying attention and I mean every mother's son and daughter of you. Stop empowering your own political parties to be worthless by demonizing the other side.
So when is George Bush going to eliminate Social Security again? That was the scare tactic of 2000 and 2004 and I still haven't seen that promise fulfilled. Oh and one more time, Conservatives, he's been gone almost 8 years. Move on.

Problem is; we have to blame ourselves.
As a population, we've become apathetic towards politics. Information is now easier to access; yet we've become lazier and less informed on issues that really are important.
And we don't hold our politicians accountable. They get away with stuff. Mainly because we don't understand what it is they are doing/what it is they are trying to accomplish.
Its like a slow, strangulation of our country.
Obama is right: change needs to happen.
Unfortunately, he isn't the guy who can bring about change, or the kind of change we need.

You can write in Ron Paul...he is not third party but about the same.
I am voting for who I want in office not who the party or other voters want in office and frankly I don't care if they have a chance or not, at least i can live with myself over it.
Also depending on what state you live in it makes not difference if I vote Ron Paul because it is not going to hurt McCain's chances at all since there is no way in hades that Obama is going to win in my state.

I have never done bumper stickers (not even the Sea Lion's Caves ones). They generally detract from the appearance of my vehicle and they stand a good chance of me getting in a fight.

I don't either. I don't even have a Cowboys one, and I have Cowboys everything.
It pisses me off that someone in AZ has the License plate HOSTILE. If I ever find them it's on.
I don't get using a car or truck to announce you anger about politics. I find some of them really funny, but most of them are really just pathetic. I saw one last night that I did chuckle about.
Give Bush an inch and he thinks he's a ruler.
I also don't get people who dedicate their car or truck to someone who has died. In loving Memory of ____________ 1965 to 2007. Is that so I feel sorry that someone they love died? We all love someone who has died.
Bumper sticker madness is comical though. The other day I saw a Toyota and it had at least 20. The whole back bumper, the trunk area and the back window as well as a couple on the side. All anti-Republicans and especially Bush. The one that really made me snicker was one that was about how he was worth less than he was 8 years ago when Clinton was in office. I remember thinking, well, you sure devalued your own car by yourself.

Bumper or stickers on cars elsewhere (like back tailgate or windows) for some reason generally annoy they heck out of me.
For some reason I just hate seeing political stickers on cars no matter the candidate or the party they belong to.
I get annoyed at stickers with religious messages.
I get annoyed at stickers of the my child is on the A or B honor roll.
I get annoyed at stickers advertising a product. For example...I will see a sticker on a window that lets me know that joe blow is using a certain brand of stereo, a certain brand of engine or engine parts and so on. I guess the idea that these companies pay magazines and tv people to advertise their products but consumers normally pay these companies to advertise for them...just irks me for some reason.
Another one that kind of annoys me is when someone has stickers made up about a loved one dying. Something like...In Memory of John Q Public, 1934-2004. I just don't get what compels someone to put that on an automobile.
I think the only type of sticker that does not annoy me is some joke/funny type stickers as I get to see or read them and laugh or put a smile on my face.
So...stickers for the most part annoy me on cars. One of those odd ball quirks of mine I guess.

Two bumper stickers stick out to me as really being great. Most of them I just don't care for.
I saw a car with Kansas plates and the sticker said...
"Auntie Em, hate you, hate Kansas, taking the dog, Love Dorothy."
The other said...
"What if the Hokie Pokie really is what it's all about?"
Don't know why, but that one cracks me up.

One that I got a good laugh out of and sticks in my memory that I seen one time.
It said Help Stop Inbreeding : Ban Country Music.
Just made me roll and it was when I was at the drivethru at a McDonalds. By time I got to the pay window I had tears in my eyes and short of breath. The girl taking the money did not know what to think.

I don't do the bumper sticker thing either but I did have a small W2004 magnet on my car. I took it off not too long ago.
As for the honor roll ones I have always liked the my kid kicked your honor roll kid's butt one. :laugh2:

I did see one other one that gave me a chuckle. I have to set it up a little bit first. South of Tucson there is a community called Green Valley. It is pretty much a retired haven. The sticker said...
"Helen Keller is alive and well, and driving in Green Valley, Arizona."
