View Full Version : Am I the only one that thinks we actually played pretty well?

The offense moved the ball and scored points, something we have not been able to do consistently. VT threw nice balls to his best option, Witten.

The defense provided a couple three and outs early on, but the offense couldn't convert those into points.

The d-line got pressure on McNabb, and on most other QB's in the league we would have had 2-3 more sacks. But McNabb played a hell of a game. It was just incredible. The third and long where he scrambled for 14 seconds and completes a 60 yard pass was a back breaker. Only down 14 points at the time, if we get the sack we get good field position.

The Eagles just got all the breaks, starting with the fumbled kickoff not being called. Ellis was also pinned down by an eagles OL during a McNabb scramble that wasn't called, but that's just how it goes.

Yes we lost, and lost by a lot. Even still, I'm encouraged by yesterdays game.

In one sense they did play well...

They played as well as could at many positions.

Quite frankly the talent on this team sucks... it is a suckfest. We keep betchin about Dixon and the linebackers and Wiley and EG and Vinny and the corners other than Newman and Carson... BUT has it occurred to you that maybe, just maybe this is the BEST they can do?

I think Bill Parcells has too much confidence in his own coaching abilities... He believes he can coach up anyone.

I don't think so.

Actually, that's an excellent point Mike.

Maybe it's as well as Dixon, Wiley and several other can do.

The only thing we know for sure is that we do NOT have the talent to compete with top tier teams.

I agree with this. I also think Big Bill is re-evaluating the situation. I think Bill is loyal to the old guy to a fault - until they screw him and make him look bad. And most of them have screwed him this year. I think we get big changes next year.

I thought Carson played a decent game. Had few pressures, got his hands on McNabb just couldn't bring him down.

We definitely need a replacement for EG though. Hopefully JJ can give us that.

certain positions did play better than usual. but if you look at this team overall - we lack talent. we had some positions on defense that needed to be filled last year, and in the offseason we got cheap and plugged in backup and "has-beens" to save money. which is why we're what we are!

parcells should take a lot of the blame for the sh*thole we're in. he bought the groceries from the outhouse and is now serving sh*t!

I don't believe its a penalty to lay down on top of a player that has fallen to the ground. He wasn't using his hands to hold him. Runyon is crafty like that.

Well along those lines, I'll say one thing. We were within 14 points for alot more minutes in the game than I thought we'd be. It's not like it was ever 32-3. Plus we were moving the ball some when we had it. But once again, no turnovers meant no chance to win against a far more talented team.

Afterall, they whooped us pretty good in the 2nd game last year (at least in the second half) when the chips were down. And they're the ones that added T.O and Kearse. We added, uh, um, wellllllll.

-having a ball stripped from your grasp

-missing a tackle, and a 13 yard gain goes the distance

-allowing mcnabb to escape time and again, turning potential sacks into huge gains

-allowing a 100 yard int return

-muffing a punt

these things don't happen when you play well.

He had an arm hooked around Ellis's leg until the ref ran by, thats when he got both of his arms up.

The ref was looking right at him the whole time.

I didn't say we played well. I said we played pretty well. You can't blame the defense for the McNabb scrambled. He just beat us. It wasn't because the Dline played poorly, he just managed to escape.

If there's a replay of it anywhere you should watch it. I will gaurentee that he hooked his leg, then lifted up both his arms when Ellis started pointing for the call.

And just because the ref may have been faced that direction, doesn't mean he was looking at him. The play was 10 yards away in that direction.

I, too was happy with the overall output of enthusiasm from the team in general. I thought they had good life and expended excellent effort, it's just that they were playing one of the top teams in the league and were simply out manned at too many positions. The Eagles played motivated and hard and their superior talent was too much to overcome, but the Boys gave it their best and didn't quit. I was proud of that.

That being said, I couldn't expect much different an outcome than we saw. This dilapidated team simply isn't good enough right now to compete at the Eagles level;still, if penalties had been properly called and the fumble recovery allowed, this would have been a lot closer game. The Eagles would still have won, but the game was actually closer than the final score indicated. These Cowboys at this time just aren't that good, but they held their own against a pretty good team instead of folding and I see that as a step in the right direction.

Next year; however, looks a little more solid once we get rid of the deadwood. With the new guys we have found this year and the others coming back from injuries and, hopefully, a good draft, I like this team for next year. :)

have you noticed the refs are not calling holding much at all? Laying on a player is holding, that's the rule. However, I believe the NFL has also told the refs to cool it on the holds to promote MORE OFFENSE!!! ;)

I also didn't think it was lacking effort. The DLine did a pretty good job with getting pressure considering we only a handful of times. Wiley actually had a decent game and I saw him get held at least twice. On that 14 sec scramble, someone got Ogbogu's arm and pulled him back when he was going for McNabb (hold), so I think the refs did their share to bury us.

Count me in, too. As disheartening as it was to watch that score pile up, it looked to me like we were just overmatched. No way should a team field so many late round rookies/first year starters at WR and secondary and expect to run with what is (grudgingly) one of the best teams out there.

There were a couple of miscues (dropped kick return for one), but really, looking at the stats on offense, it wasn't horrible (though we still can't run the ball worth a damn)--especially considering the lack of weapons we fielded out there. Just compare our offense numbers with the Skins from week to week...

Defense couldn't stop them, yes, but there are reasons for that, most of which aren't fixable right now because we're so shallow personnel-wise. So, the big Pete Hunter experiment never got off the ground, but Woody's injury was the beginning of the end for that, anyway, long before Hunter got hurt. I think his absence is the key to the falling-apart this season.

Here's hoping the Skins get a similar hurtin' next week. That's all I want after last night.

Exactly. I thought they kept fighting and fighting back. Even on the 14 second play Nate Jones (or was it Reeves?) was right there with pinkston. He didn't stop covering him for one second on a 14 second play where the WR ran for a total of 100 yards.
