Okay Cowboys fans. Some of you are going to say why the hell are we talking about this in November. Well after last night's insult by the Iggles I'm thinking I might not be alone in wondering Who's the Best Corner, Free Safety, D End, D Tackle in college football just waiting and praying to be drafted by the greatest team in the history of THE game.
Our D is going to be addressed heavily in this upcoming draft. I'm just curious as to who would be the top guys to follow.
With two #1 picks, we may trade one of them down, but I think we're gonna go full force after a Defender with our other #1. Who's it gonna be?
I know about Antrelle Rolle and Marlin Jackson. But what is your opinion on Corey Webster or Jimmy Williams? Are any one of these guys Champ Bailey?
Is there gonna be a Sean Taylor or a Dwight Freeney just hanging out waiting to be drafted? Oh yeah and how about that Antajj Hawthorne is he really just Shaun Rogers cloned into a smaller and yet impossibly more powerfull package?

Dwight Freeney would be swallowed up in our read and react defensive scheme ... as would ANY top tier DE. It's useless unless we get rid of Zimmer.
We've been in need of a top tier DT since Leon Lett ... and all we did was draft Willie Blade, Daleroy Stewart, and John Nix. What a combo. Considering Shaun Rogers was sitting there for our taking. Unreal.

We don't "Need" a CB, as long as Hunter comes back healthy and plays at least as good as he was till he got hurt. We need a pass rush so that our CBs don't have to cover for 14 friggin' seconds.
We need an explosive, pass rushing DE.
We need a big, fat run stuffing DT.
We need a TRUE Free Safety.
But we're ok at RCB with Hunter. We need a veteran to be a backup, not another rookie.

That's the understatement of the year.

I would like to see Haloti Ngata, Darnell Bing, and Justin Tuck in the lineup next year, especially Ngata 345 lbs will definately plug the middle

Thanks man,
This is the kind of information I'm looking for. I've been looking around the internet for top ten lists re: positional profiles and, I guess since it's early, all I'm getting is the same names.
Haloti Ngata isn't a name that tops any of the lists I've seen and physically he sounds incredible.
I want to know if there is anyone out there who can come in here and dominate. David Pollack could probably start but he doesn't strike me as the dominator we're going to need on the D-line.
Bing sounds like a great SS, but we've got Roy. We need a FS that can take over for Woody. A guy that can come in here and get us a bunch of INT's, like an Ed Reed or a Sean Taylor.
Although I agree with you on one thing. I think with Hunter coming back that we still need a CB but we really need a dominator at DT and a speed rusher like the Freak or Jason Taylor.

I think Tuck would work nicely as a OLB in a 3-4 scheme, but as a DE in a 4-3 scheme he's too small and would get eaten alive.

Top CBs
1) rolle
2) Marlin Jackson (ty law clone)
3) Carlos Rogers, from Auburn if you don't know, good size, GREAT speed, people just don't throw his direction, ever
I'd stay away from Corey Webster, good size and speed but he just hasn't impressed me in playmaking
DTs
1) Rod Wright disruptive, frequently in the backfield, great size and agility, leon lett-like, has the frame to add weight if needed to. However he's still a Jr and Mack Brown has never lost a player early....so he may not declare
2) Antajj Hawthorn, explosive fat guy but hasn't impressed me enough to warrant one of our first rounders unless one of them is pick 15 or later
3) Mike Patterson, USC, very underrated IMO, anchors a very good DL although he doesn't currently have the incredible bulk we'd like to have there, in the 305 range.
DE's
1) Erasmus James, however I'm not sure he's the speed rusher that we need or if he'll flop like most of our first round DE's, very disruptive and gets to the QB
2) David Pollack, very disruptive, non-stop motor, grant wistrom-like. Lacks the quickness and explosion off the ball so I don't think he's a good fit for us
3) Marcus Spears, Big, powerful, athletic, but much like Greg Ellis, probably will be a good DE but not a sackmaster
4) the Cody's Dan and Shaun (OU and USC respectively) hard to pick one over the other its like they're brothers
FS
1) ? hard to pick a true FS that's gonna be a Ed Reed. I like Josh Bullochs from Nebraska but not until the 4th round
I think we should take the BPA in the draft with our picks and possibly even trade up and ensure both our picks are in the top ten and one in the top 6. Here's my list in order:
1-Mike Williams, stud, will be a game-changer
2) Rolle, makes plays, lock-down CB
3) Derrick Johnson, rare freakish LB that makes plays, remember any of our LB's making a play lately? me either
4) Rod Wright, if he declares, not only a need position but a VERY good DT that could anchor a 3-4 or a 4-3, will stuff the run and collapse the pocket
5) Marlin Jackson, like him almost as much as Rolle. He reminds me so much of Ty Law its scary. I'm worried that Hunter won't come back as good as he was but still could be a very good slot CB and move a drafted CB to the starting spot on the edge
6) Carlos Rogers, slipping in under the radar behind taller CBs
7) Mark Clayton, reminds me of Hines Ward an awful lot, small in size but great hands and a terror running after the catch.

It is possible to fill 3 of those 4 holes in the draft.
We could trade down with one of our picks to the mid teens and add a late 1st.
Highest First could go drafting Rod Wright who should be the highest rated DT. He's over 300 and explosive. A constant double in college. Much better at UT than Shaun Rogers was. He was considered the best DT prospect in the country coming out of high school.
Mid round 1st could go to Justin Miller CB out of Clemson. Very good cover guy who shuts down Miami and FSU WRs as well as returns kicks. A LOT like Terrence Newman. Last 1st could go to a FREE safety like the Thomas Davis kid from Georgia.
Unfortunately we need to add some offensive guys as well.
The good news is we also have ample cap space. A very good player at any 2 positions is very viable in free agency. Say we add Marvin Harrison and Julian Peterson. We can still add the 3 draftees and use the high second round pick on a pass rusher. Right now Erasmus James, Marcus Spears, David Pollack and Justin Tuck look like picks between 15 and 45. 1 should be there in R2 for Dallas. Tuck is generally rated lowest so assume him for now.
Figure offseason works out to be as described above as we start.
QB: Henson
HB: Julius
FB/HBack: Witten
WR1: Harrison
WR2: Keyshawn
WR3: Glenn
LT: Flo
LG: LA
C: Al Johnson
RG: Gurode
RT: Jacob Rogers
CB1: TNew
CB2: Justin Miller
FS: Thomas Davis
SS: Roy Williams
OLB: Singleton
MLB: Dat
OLB: Julian Peterson
DE: Justin Tuck
DT: Glover
NT: Rod Wright
DE: Greg Ellis
KR: Reshard Lee, Nate Jones
PR: Miller, TNew, Harrison

The way Parcells today defended not signing Winfield and asked the media to name five game-changing corners, I don't think we're taking a corner in the first or maybe even the second. I think it's defensive linemen and linebackers.
Works for me. :)
