Don't get me wrong...I'm not comparing Parcells with Campo <insert the old puking icon here>...Everyone knows I don't like Parcells, never have, but even I wouldn't insult the man like that.
However, I have to go way way way back to the 1-15 year with Jimmy Johnson to be this embarrassed to be a Cowboys fan in Virginia and this disgusted with the entire organization. Even Campo's three 5-11 seasons felt better than this because we were losing 13-10, had a decent defense, saw hope in a young QB or RB or WR. I always thought we'd be better, always felt we had a chance to win and turn the season around. I at least felt if we had a different coach that our personel wasn't that far off.
I was big Chan Gailey fan and still believe he would have done great things with Dallas if the older players like Aikman and Irvin weren't so stubbornly entrenched in the Timing offense of Zampese and Turner.
I was embarrassed by the good old boy, hot dog eating Switzer (plus I always hated Oklahoma), but I was proud of the teams.
I know Parcells has been a great coach in the past, as recently as last season in fact...he made a huge error in his dismantling of that team before having proven replacements in place...I think he stinks this year, and I hope he gets it right this offseason.
Still, I have to go back to the 1-15 season to have so little hope, to be so embarrassed at our inability to compete, and to look and see so little hope for next year....I'm sure I'll get blasted with Koolaid for that, but we are so suddenly, inexplicably poor at CB, Safety, LB, DL, RB (all hope lies in JJ, so we still better find another guy as well), WR (no youth or up and comers except Morgan), and QB (all hope is on the bench and unknown really).
This is as low as I've been in a long time...I certainly hope some of the young guys like Jones and Henson can show me something GREAT, if only in glimpses before this season is over....otherwise our only hope for next year is in 2 draft picks and a little cap room....and that's not enough to turn this mess around in one year.
I can't even look down the roster and see names of any young players like Blade, Stewart, Ekuban, Carter, to have false hope in....we have cut most of the players we drafted and have replaced them with no one to even have hope in. We don't even have young guys behind the current guys...except for OG and OT and an injured RB and QB, all offensive players, who the heck are we supposed to hope will suddenly be better next season???
Tell me how low you are right now, or give me some legitimate reason for encouragement and hope in 2005.

If we would have played with any heart last night, I would agree with you. Our team has quit. Bill doesnt want to send the message to his team, but it doesnt matter. The fact is this team has no heart, no fire, no drive.
The last time I felt this sick about a team was 2000? or 2001? When the Fecals recovered the onside kick and B-slapped us like they did last night.
The Fecal players were laughing at our team, our fans ( the few who were there). And nobody on our team gave a rats ***.

I see a potential Splash in FA this off-season. I see 2 high 1st round draft picks. ANd I see a young QB, and a young RB about to start their respective careers with us who have some potential to be good.
Other than that, I feel like puking when I look at our present day team and situation.

I don't feel that bad about the season cuz 1) I know we over achieved last season, 2) we've got a lot of injuries to key players this season 3) I always knew Zimmer sucked and now there's a good chance he's gone 4) we still have Roy, T-New, Dat, Glover, Hunter, Ellis, Keyshawn, Glenn, Witten, Morgan, and a few other solid to good players coming back next year.
Not to mention we might get to see Julius Jones play this year.

That's a load of crap. Our team did not QUIT last night. I was actually surprised they kept coming after so many negative plays went against them. They kept fighting. We didn't lose by 28 cuz we quit, we lost by 28 cuz the Eagles are a superior team.

Good points Rack, but what's it say about your team when injuries to a WR like Glenn, a guy you gave a 6th round pick for, and Woodson, whose coverage skills and ability had already started to deteriorate...and a guy who probably won't get back from injury to play again, are the excuses we have for stinking??? Surely Julius Jones's injury isn't the reason.
Dallas' last three losses have been by 21, 23 and 28 points...when was the last time we took 3 beatings like that...back to back to back??? I don't even recall every having that happen.
I am however excited to see Julius Jones and Henson, and if they aren't what they were billed to be, this team is literally starting at the bottom, not much above where an expansion team would begin....Let's hope it pans out that we don't end the season thinking we need still need a RB and QB....that would be ugly.

I agree...I think we were cracking heads on Special teams for the first time all year, and the offense kept coming back....I don't think the defense actually quit, but I think they are in total disarray and hopelessness...they don't seem to have any belief, and that's easy to understand at this point...they can't stop anyone.

Embarrassed--yes.
Hopeless--no.
There is no doubt in my mind that Bill and Jerry can turn this around and quite truthfully this may have been the best thing that could have happened because you put together some of the beatings we've taken and that has to tell you that whatever you're doing isn't correct.
I hate to say it but this team going 5-11 or whatever it goes is potentially much better for the franchise than going 8-8.
8-8 would make us believe that we need mild change. 5-11 will cause us to believe we need radical change which is closer to the truth.
Some may not like this strategy... they want to win every game and believe that there is nothing to be gained by losing. I have no problems with that type of thinking. But I think this team is a train wreck and only a radical makeover will fix it. Having it go 8-8 and then do some minor tinkering isn't going to do it.

But how far back in seasons do you go to feel this low about the team?
Pretty much the start of the 2000 season when the Eagles did basically the same thing to us when before the game there was still some hope that we'd supposedly be good.
But after it was obvious that the prime time players we'd had relied on for so long were on the downhill slide coupled with our total inability to replenish them with true talent (even tho we had many many years to do it) makes anything that happens now totally understandable.
If you felt more comfortable with last years cast just because they were younger, even tho they're back-up NFL material at best, so be it. At least with Vinnie I know it's only a 1 year gig as the starter. I dont think anybody will try and make me believe for 3 years that he's the real deal.
I like what I see in Witten.. to say the least. No more Jackie Harris's and Tony McGee's. We're finally set it would seem at at least 1 Corner which is 1 more than we had before. Our O-line is much better off than it was 2 years ago. Maybe we finally have a real deal QB in the wings.. we'll see. Finally have some highly regarded young talent at RB in JJ. Makes me feel a little better than undrafted FA's.
We've needed a massive rebuild for years now. And not just with reaches Jerry wanted to take a flyer on.

I agree with you MIchael, and it's not the record that bothers me the most...last year i saw a young roster with young starters at key spots and imagined more young starters and guys stepping up and learning the game this year. When I look at this team and imagine next year, right now I can't imagine anything good except the hope that JJ and Henson will be good and that we'll bring in a better draft.
Which players give you hope for next year? I was hoping we'd be seeing the results of rebuilding next season...now it looks like next year may be the beginning of a rebuilding process?????

Wayne,
Here is my thinking...
Our most desperate positions are:
DT
DE
CB
S
WR
RB
QB
LB?
Now QB & RB could be solved or partially solved so lets drop them from the list...
DT
DE
CB
S
WR
LB?
My guess is that we'll be able to pick up a productive safety through free agency. It seems there are always safety's out there, and they are generally less expensive than other positions. So our list now becomes...
DT
DE
CB
WR
LB?
I'm betting we can pick up either a DT or a DE in free agency, maybe both but let's assume one, OK? I'll say we pickup a DE in free agency. Our list now becomes...
DT
CB
WR
LB?
My guess is that using our first three draft picks (2 #1's and our #2) we'll be able to knock off three of those positions... let's go with DT, WR, LB.
That leaves us with picking up another CB through free agency.
Now we've only signed two free agents. My guess is we'll sign 2 front-liners and perhaps 3-4 second-liners... fill in guys at DT, RB, S and QB if Vinny retires.
Does all this make sense?
I think it is a workable plan. And I think it makes us competitive in 2005.

The way I count it, we lost three starters...Woodson, Glenn (after what, six games when the team was already lousy?) and Hunter, who was only marginally better than the guys behind him and might have lost the job on his own.
That's it.
The offensive line has been injury free...the QB has played every down...the backfield injury free (except for Jones, who has yet to prove he is an NFL player and who was a BACK UP even when he was healthy in game two)...Dan Campbell, who was an important part of the offense but please, that Witten has received more playing time is a blessing...the front seven on defense has been injury free...
I dont believe in the stuff around here like GROZ, etc...but I'll start my own movement to not allow people to spin this season into being impacted because of all the injuries we have had.
It's just not accurate.

There is no doubt in my mind that Bill and Jerry can turn this around and quite truthfully this may have been the best thing that could have happened because you put together some of the beatings we've taken and that has to tell you that whatever you're doing isn't correct.
The beatings have only poured salt on the wounds. The RCB situation is a prime example. The Wiley signing is another. The utter stupidity in staying with Dixon, Scott and some guy who got shot up last year at safety is another.
I hate to say it but this team going 5-11 or whatever it goes is potentially much better for the franchise than going 8-8.
Agreed. When you go eight and eight there is hope. At 5-11 heads roll and rightfully so. Teams can go five hundred for years and still think they are a player or two away. If you do that, then you are the Redskins.
8-8 would make us believe that we need mild change. 5-11 will cause us to believe we need radical change which is closer to the truth.
That comes with being real and seeing what you have. We have a QB in Vinny who can be a good backup. We have a budding star in Witten.

The last time for me was the 1988 season when Dallas went 3-13. Like then, we had SOME young talent, including rookie Michael Irvin and Ken Norton, Jr., but the general direction of the team was extremely cloudy because Landry opted to go with "his" older, more experienced vets. He did so for many of the same reasons why Parcells is doing the same now.
We had some solid guys, but much of our team was either past its prime or simply not that talented to begin with. Sound familiar?
That year, we started off 2-2, but lost 11 of our final 12. That was Landry's final season as head coach. That was the last time I was this distraught and there are a lot of similarities. Now, as was the case then, our run of relatively fruitless drafts has come home to roost. Questionable offseason moves, or in this case, lack thereof, is also biting us in the arse.
Can't run the ball effectively. Can't cover. Can't tackle. Can't get to opposing quarterbacks.
The 1988 season was far more disheartening than the '89 campaign. You could see signs of a future in 1989. There was Aikman and Jimmy and the wealth of goodies forthcoming from the Herschel deal. A year earlier, it was Steve Pelleur, Kevin Sweeney, and a decrepit defense. No sign of life.

This is my take too, juke...if our team was dependant on Glenn, Campbell, and Jones, then someone did a piss poor job of planning...:)....besides, none of those injuries, coupled with cutting Carter and letting anyone else you can think of, like Hambrick, go can't explain what's wrong with the defense.
ON defense, we cut Blade and Stewart, let Mario walk and acted like it was nothing, and let Ek walk to replace him with DAT DUDE <sigh>....Woodson is the only injury on defense and he was on his way downhill last season anyway....nope, this team was simply not well constructed.

Swinton returns opening kick off and they went on to really kick our ***.
They put a 40's+ spot on the board.
and that's another pet peeve of mine....Swinton was a better return man than Z Smith or Crayton, both draft picks we could have used on other positions, and he'd be contributing big time at WR right now....I'll never understand why we let a guy go who scored 1-2 td's on returns every year and was starting to contribute at WR....another bonehead move in my opinion.

And a word about Wiley....
Ya know, if I was playing as poorly as him, when I recorded the introduction for Monday Night Football, I'd probably say, "Schwartz, Kew Gardens, NY" rather than even give my real name...
But Wiley went even one step further with that Dat Dude garbage. Does the guy even have a clue?
My oh my how I can't stand this guy.
