Coming to this forum, even though it's my job to moderate it, feels a bit like it did when I was a kid going up into my grandparents attic in their old, creaky house.

:)

But....I have a serious question...

How is it that many of you are tremendously passionate in your discussions about this presidential election when, it's my experience that no matter who is elected, NOTHING will change?

I'm not being argumentative here...I am simply perplexed.

I'll give you an example of what I mean.

I love politics (as a sporting event). I recently went to youtube and spent a few hours watching old debates. I came across the Reagan/Carter "there you go again" debate.

Do you know the context within which that comment was made? Health care. They were talking about health care. This was 1980. 28 years later, the candidates are still talking about health care. Both parties have been in power during the past 28 years. It ain't about democrats or republicans.

The way I see it, those who are truly in power (maybe it's Reality and Hos) are quite happy to see people passionately bickering about who's candidate is better because it means the focus is not on the system that is doing nothing for the vast majority of citizens. It's one of the greatest distraction techniques I've ever seen.

Maybe I'm just an oldster who was spoiled as a younger man because I was able to watch and listen to the likes of Barry Goldwater and John Kennedy...both of whom I admire tremendously because they stood for something.

So, please, enlighten me. I feel like I'm missing something. Why all the fuss...why all the passion...why all the partisan battles over two candidates who will do nothing but give us more of the same business as usual?

Thanks

Hey Juke,

How goes it?

I think the feeling, especially this year, is that this is a cross roads of sorts. I think many believe that this election could have dramatic effect on the future of this country for years to come. This may or may not be true but the voters, I believe, believe this to be true.

Personally, I don't think it can be business as usual because I believe the business itself has changed. However, I don't expect either of these candidates to make a big difference. There policies are very simular IMO. I guess we'll see.

I think some of us have a bullheaded nature that loves to argue.

Heck I will argue with anyone in here at times...even If I agree with them.

However I have grown very weary and disgusted by the two party system for some of the very reasons you mention.

Even some candidates on the republican side of the ticket were much better options but NEVER was given a fair chance, even by their own party.

It's sad.

But it does not keep us from flapping our gums and arguing over issues. Even if it is just a way to pass the time...at times.

You sweet talker betty crocker.

On a serious note...you know sometimes you can only take so much of the crap they throw out there...but sadly they know the majority will take it because they feel they have no other choice.

They really do play us, use us and I think behind the scenes laugh about it.
