What positions do you think we MUST HAVE (as in a new starter), Need a new starter, and what positions do you want a new starter?

Here's my list:

QB: Need
RB: MUST HAVE
FB: Need
WR: Want (mainly just want high pick to develop for the future)
TE: We're fine at this position I think.
LT: We're ok here.
LG: We've got Peterman. And I also think LA "CAN" play a few more years. It's just a matter of whether he wants to or not.
C: I'm not even close to being sold on Al Johnson. If a good Center is available in FA then I WANT us to pursue him. I don't want us to draft another one high though.
RG: Still hoping Gurode puts it all together.
RT: I'm fine here. I think Tucker is the future at RT for us.

LE: I'm fine with Ellis at LE. But he NEEDS help.
DT: I'm fine with Glover.
DT2: We MUST HAVE a DT that can dominate vs the run, and get a decent push on pass play.
RE: We MUST HAVE a RE that has the ability to at least SOMETIMES beat his man quickly for some quick sacks. It seems ALL of the sacks we get are coverage sacks, and that's not many considering our secondary.
WLB: We NEED to cut coakley and replace him with either James or someone better. I'm not close to being sold on James either.
MLB: We're just fine with Dat at MLB as long as he has a run stuffing DT to allow him to roam free.
SLB: Singleton is solid, but I WANT more of a game breaker at our OLB positions.
CB: I'm fine with both Newman and Hunter. Our pass D was actually doing pretty good before Hunter got hurt (not counting the Minny game).
SS: We MUST HAVE Roy at SS.
FS: We MUST HAVE a TRUE FS.
K/P: I'm fine with our kickers.

That's 5 "Must Haves", 3 "Needs", and 3 "Wants".

What about you people?

That should of been at the top of your list of absolute needs.

Must haves are proven commodities (F/A) at DE & DT.
Need another proven RB (again F/A) to split duties w/JJ.
Need a good WR, a true FS, DE, & linebacker help thru the draft.

I fear that in two years this subject will come up again and we'll see a post such as "no sirree. let's don't fall in that trap again (see DE xxxx xxxxxxx and DT xxxxx xxxxxxx). CB, DB, CB!!!!

Did we just draft the 2 wrong players or is the real problem the persons in charge of the draft?

At least in my scenario we’ll finally luck out by drafting the same position 1 million times. Oops that didn’t work the last time we went shopping for a DE did it?

Never mind. :D

The only real need I see is defensive line help. Dallas needs a pass rush bad. Dallas needs a run stuffer. As long as the defensive line causes pressure, the rest of the defense will automatically be better. It all starts up front.

So DE and DT.

A nice playmaking LB wouldn't hurt either.

The question here will be what does LA want to do?

Continue in Dallas or try to facilitate a trade to the west coast?

I don't know if Gurode will be counted on as a starter next year and Peterman will be returning from a major knee injury.

Dallas likely needs at least one more solid guard no matter what happens, IMO.

DT2: We MUST HAVE a DT that can dominate vs the run, and get a decent push on pass play.
An absolute necessity no matter what front the Cowboys use next year as their base defense. If you don't win first down and limit opponents options, you have a tough road ahead of you.

RE: We MUST HAVE a RE that has the ability to at least SOMETIMES beat his man quickly for some quick sacks. It seems ALL of the sacks we get are coverage sacks, and that's not many considering our secondary.
Either a RE or an OLB depending on how drasticly things get overhauled.

Dallas has had no success drafting right ends since Haley retired, so I'm not eager to see them try again, but an answer may not be available in free agency.

If Parcells is serious about using the 3-4, a tweener may be added at some point in the draft. I'd hoped Bradie James would prove capable of disrupting things from weakside linebacker this year, but he has been a near total disappointment to date.

Everything starts up front in the NFL on both sides of the ball, IMO.

Dallas must find players who can help their lines live up to their potential.

I totally agree. Fix the line and fix the D. Oh yeah, a legit FS b4 LB help though.
