View Full Version : Our needs are much less than we think if...
Our needs are much less if Parcells could get more out of what he has... there are a lot of "ifs" but if someone on the roster could fill the free safety spot, if Kalen Thornton could man an LB spot in the 3-4 defense, if Henson and Rogers could show us something this year, if J Jones can hold his own... We really need to start evaluating as soon as possible. We need to see these players out on the field as much as possible... What we have learned... we have a punter in MacBriar, and a return man in Lee and Johnson can holding his own at center. We know Nate Jones, Frazier and Reeves need to bulk up and get stronger but are no better than backup CBs...
This is a good point, keds. Last season we had a number of unexpected players step up to a Pro Bowl level(Flozell Adams, Dat Nguyen to name a few; Willie Blade to a smaller extent. But this season, those same players are either gone, or not performing at the same level.
This season, however, we haven't really had any players significantly improve their play from a year ago. More specificially, we haven't had one unexpected player step up. Certainly Witten has improved tenfold, but everyone assumed he would. Guys like Carson, or Chris Cooper, or Kenyon Coleman haven't stepped up. And the lack of player development has hurt this team greatly.

I would say that Gurode has stepped up. He is playing better than most expected. The o-line as a whole is playing better than last season. It is a shame, too. They open up good holes, but George and Anderson can't hit them. They are giving Vinny good time in the pocket, too. They can still improve.

I'm not entirely sure that Frazier isn't the answer. He seems to have skills but just needs some real game experience and he is getting that. Remember he is the starting corner here after only what 3 weeks? I think Bill sees something (I hope). :D

I love all the we comments. Unless your Parcells, i wouldn't include yourself in the evaluation process. :p

All I know is WE need: DE, DT, CB, FS, bigger LB's, another playmaker WR, and maybe RB & QB  .
Still to many damn needs for my liking.

We've been in serious need of a DT since Leon Lett left. We've done nothing to shore up that position ... unless you call Willie Blade, John Nix, and Daleroy Stewart shoring up.
We've known about the importance of the anchor DT for years and year, and freakin years ... but we continually do nothing about it.
I would be absolutely NOT surprised if we don't take any DT's this draft. Mark my words ...

I find myself doing this at times too and I hate it. We are fans, not members of the coaching staff or players who put in long hours to be a part of a team. I know, fans are a big part of a team's success, but saying "we" when talking about a team always seemed out of place to me.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if we did. If we do indeed switch over to a 3-4, there's no way we go with what we have at DT. I don't know if Shaun Rogers will make it down here, but his signing is the only thing I could imagine keeping us from drafting one.
I'd almost lay money that if NE hadn't grabbed Wilfork in front of us this past draft, Parcells would have taken him.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a trade down with one of our #1's and see us go DE, DT and LB in the first two rounds.

There are alot of people against trading down, but if you can get the bounty SD got to drop down three spots by all means do it. If you have a chance like Arizona did to drop down and draft Calvin Pace and Bryant Johnson or the Bears to draft Rex Grossman and Mike Haynes, then by all means don't do it. :D

I think we have not had a lot of people playing above expectations.
Some have like Witten who may be our only Pro-Bowler. Make that All-Pro.
However I doubt many of us thought VT would have many numbers much less very good ones. Take away his INTs and not only does he look pretty good but we probably win a couple more.
But I think this team has multiple reasons it's failing though. I don't think it's lack of effort. I don't think the main reason is lack of people stepping up.
I think not making plays is the main reason. As in not making tackles. Not stopping the offense at crucial times. Not creating turnovers but having a negative ratio . Making stupid mistakes. Penalties. Not getting points in the red zone.
I still say this is not a team without talent especially if you take away injuries.
They just aren't capable of sustaining drives, generating points, or preventing points.
Maybe this sounds stupid. I guess I'm trying to say most of the players are playing badly but aren't bad players.

With FA I would go after the best defensive players we can. They are proven. Also try and get a top FA offensive lineman.
then FIRE MIKE ZIMMER!!! Get a real DC in here. Zimmer sucks.
One FA I would love to see get signed by Dallas would be John Abraham. That would really help our pass rush as long as Zimmer is no longer here. If Zimmer is still here then Abraham would go from bein a top pass rusher to bein another nobody.
In the draft. Get CB Rolle with the 1st round pick #1 and then with the 2nd 1st rounder get WR Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards. If we have to trade away some lower round picks to move up for one of them then do it. The draft experts are sayin this draft doesnt have much talent. So move up if we have to get a good player.
If we coudl get Rolle and one of those WRs and maybe add a steal at LB and soem OL then take care of defense in FA we could be alot better.
Oh and NO MORE OLD PEOPLE!!! Get good young FAs.

CB is the second toughest position in the NFL. i'm not ready to say that, between the kids, there isn't one or two of 'em that can get it done. i think somebody will emerge from that mess before the season is out. roy williams needs to be moved to SS and dixon or scott won't cut it at FS. dallas should try some different things with their linebackers like thornton and james. it wouldn't kill 'em to run these guys more often from a 3-4 and experiment with moving the down linemen around (such as trying glover at LE). on defense, dallas should start approaching the remainder of the season like a lab experiment. even as bad as the personnel has looked, there ain't no way they are maximizing their potential. their record is a perfect excuse to go frankensteinian now.
