JJT with Norm on The Ticket
Coakley will likely be asked to take a paycut.. probably offered around a million with incentives
Woody will be restructured to around the league minimum if he comes back
Dat Wiley is a candidate to be cut with his upcoming bonus... will count as 3 mil against the cap if cut
Glover is scheduled to make around 5 mil... it is doubtful he may be asked to restructure but it is a possibility
LA will likely not be approached about restructuring because of the contentious situation last year
Vinny may come back, but under the stipulation that he competes for the job... it won't be handed to him
Matt Lehr is a FA... likely will be lost because of his versatility
Dixon is likely gone...
Parcells is still going to be cautious in FA

Dex and Woody have big salaries next year...I'll be surprised if they are aroun...Woody most likely is done anyways...to bad for one of the ultimate Cowboy warriors.
Bye bye...Lehr, Dixon, Vinny, and especially Dat Dude...don't let the door hit ya in the arse.

We could cut him before the last game of the season and burn up the cap room we still have so it will not hurt next years cap

So who do yu trust, JJT or Mort? Mort said on the MNF pregame that the Cowboys will be the most active and highest spending team in the league in FA.

According to AdamJT13 it doesn't work that way. Now that the season has begun any move reflects next year's cap not this one.

I did some of the Cap math in another thread about potential vet cuts and their impact on the cap. It seems to be germane to this discussion so I cut it and re-posted it here.
I count at least 3 Cowboys likely to be cut from the current roster.
Wiley
Woodson
Coakley
I thought Coakley would have a chance to stick around with a renegotiation but I think BP wants to take us in another direction - one that does not involve Coak even at a reduced salary. Woodson and Wiley are goners for sure.
Coakley signed a 6 yr $25M contract in 2001 with $5.5M SB.
His upcoming salaries are:
2005 3300000.00
2006 4552000.00
The total dead cap space created by cutting Coakley will be $1.83M.
His expected cap cost next year will be ~$4.2 M. If we cut him before June 1st we save $2.4M off next year's cap. If we cut him after June 1st we save $3.3M off next year's cap.
Woodson signed a 5 year $20M contract with a $4M SB in 2002.
His upcoming salaries are:
2005 3500000.00
2006 4000000.00
The total dead cap space created by cutting Woodson will be $1.6M.
His expected cap cost next year will be ~$4.3M. If we cut him before June 1st we will save $2.7 M off next year's cap. If we cut him after June 1st, we save $3.5M off next year's cap.
Wiley signed a 4 year $16M contract with a $4M SB in 2004.
His upcoming salries are:
2005 2000000.00
2006 4340000.00
2007 4000000.00
The total dead cap space created by cutting Wiley will be $3M.
His expected cap cost next year will be ~$3M. If we cut him before June 1st we will save nothing. If we cut him after June 1st, we will save $2M off next year's cap.
To summarize:
1. If we cut all 3 players we'll have a total dead cap space of $6.4M to account for.
2. If we cut all 3 of them before June 1st we would realize $5.1M in cap savings next year and all $6.4M of dead cap space will have been accounted for so we would have no more dead space to carry forward to 2006.
3. If we cut all 3 of them after June 1st we will save $8.8M of cap space for next with with a total of $2.7M dead cap space in 2005 and a total of $3.7M dead space to be accounted for in 2006.
4. We can achieve cap savings next year of $5.1-8.8M depending on when they are released. We will have $2.7-6.4M in dead cap space next year with the remainder to be accounted for in the 2006 cap year.

Thanks Eskimo. Great to know there are no drawbacks to cutting Dat Dud.
I look at Jerome Bettis in Pittsburgh and think Darren Woodson could provide that for our Defense. I don't think he's done. Imagine Woodson as the third safety who can start in a pinch instead of Dixon or the guy who hurts himself everytime he hits someone (forgot his name). Both of them need to go Star Wars.

I would love to have a physically capable Darren Woodson back on the team for one more season. I just don't think it is going to happen for medical reasons. I expect Woodson to retire this offseason. He has nothing left to prove, all the money he needs and this team won't be ready to contend for anything.

I agree... and it really does suck.... Woody has been a class player for us for a long time...
