View Full Version : What Vinny being sick does....

If the rumor about Testaverde being sick is true, it accomplishes several things:

1. It allows Henson to start, without making it look like the Cowboys are giving up on the season.

2. It allows Parcells to save face and makes it look like he was "forced' into starting Henson, and not just giving in to the fans and the media and everyone else with half a brain in their heads.

3. It allows Parcells to see Henson in the worst possible situation (against Baltimore, in Baltimore, short notice) and find out how he reacts and plays.

4. If Henson is terrible, it gives Parcells the ability to pull Henson again without it hurting his confidence (since the only reason he started was Vinny's sickness, per say ;).

5. By Testaverde just happening to get sick on Thursday, it just happened to give Henson most of the week to practice with the #1's before having to start.

Now look, I'm not into the conspiracy theorists, but you have to admit, I have a strong case for why it would be done. Vinny is missing. Just how sick is he? Don't think for a minute that Testaverde wouldn't participate if Parcells told him to do it. Miss the Ravens game, who wouldn't jump at that chance? :D

You just never know......................................

Ill Testaverde misses practice time 02:29 PM CST on Thursday, November 18, 2004
By MATT MOSLEY / DallasNews.com IRVING - Cowboys starting quarterback Vinny Testaverde missed the portion of Thursday's afternoon practice watched by the media because of illness, the team said. That means backup quarterback Drew Henson will get more practice snaps Thursday. Testaverde wasn't in the locker room after practice. Earlier, Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said during his daily news conference that he would like to evaluate Henson this season, but hoped it would not be a "forced thing." Parcells wants to play Henson on his own terms, which means he doesn't want to insert him in a mop-up role or because starter Testaverde goes down with an injury. "I would like to see him, yeah," Parcells said. "I think I would." When asked if there was a chance Henson might not play at all this season, Parcells said, "I think there's a chance that could happen, sure." Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on a local radio station Thursday that Henson's penchant for holding the ball too long in the pocket was one of the reasons the team may be holding him back.

Maybe, but if they call it the flu, It usually takes at least a few days to get back to normal strength. Since Testaverde is a senior citizen, maybe longer. The flu usually effects senior citizens worse. That's why they get the flu shots before we do. :D

The flu....didn't BP make fun of someone for missing a game due to the flu or something like that? I'll bet for VT, it's a different type of flu.

Just reported in another thread, Henson took all the snaps today, Testaverde has the flu. Parcells is something else isn't he?

What I think it really does is give him a full weeks preperation for his real debut, on Thursday against Chicago.

With the short week next week, I think they needed another way to get him ready for that gamae without playing him against the Ravens.

Ahhh that's right....Tyson was a weak pu$$ because he was sick...that's when he officially lost his job to Big Al...I think the same should apply to VT...he's done. PHIN!

i'm with you.....don't see em introducing Henson against the Ravens dfense either but sounds more likely against the Urlaker-less (sp?) Bears D. However, Turkey-day is a big deal game with most of the football nation watching! hhmmmm.....if BP does start Henson on 11/25, in front of the football world, maybe Parcells feels he's up to the task. i don't think he'd put the him in that pressure-filled spotlight unless he felt/knew he could handle it and was ready. remember, the coach sees and knows much more than us. One week from today!!

my bad but what do u mean "he can't be any clearer on the topic"? i know BP has been trying to dodge the Henson question.....saying he's looking to see him play this season but on his terms. I don't remember any comments indicating Turkey Day being the day.

Give me John Abraham and Shaun Rogers in Free Agency, Mike Williams and Derrick Johnson in the 1st round of the draft and a CB in the 2nd round, with EG and some other dead weight gone and I will be too giddy to deal with.

Maybe you can be "Un-Hostile" then...

Don't forget a freaking safety.

We go into another season with Dixon/Davis/Scott and I'll snap.

I think if we added those 4 positions move Hunter to FS.

Brandon Everage is still unsigned. :p

I think the whole thing was that Vinny will miss some practice, not the game.

However maybe he will indeed miss the game and some of your theories could be dead on.

I think even if he does play the game...this gives bill a chance to give Henson some extra reps with the starters and a better chance to see more of Henson in practice.
I will also say that even if Bill does not plan on starting henson for a couple of weeks, that he will give Henson more, even more then he is letting on in PCs, practice time as Vinny knows the system by now and it gives Henson more time to prepare.

A Few things to think about.

Missing a game and missing practice are two different things.

I would imagine bill knows Vinny well enough to see if he is really sick, or just a little sick and trying to get out of practice.

And the last thing...maybe some of the ideas brought up in the orginal post of this thread has some truth to it....maybe they are just saying this in order to get a better look at, or more practice reps for henson with the first team..because they know he is going to start soon.

If anyone noticed, Monday night, Vinnie kept 'wiping' his nose, if that's what you can call it.

Tuesday morning on a local radio station her, 93.3 The Bone, he said he had a cold.

He missed a practice, but Friday morning he was at Valley Ranch, coming in for practice. That was the last I heard so far.

If anyone noticed, Monday night, Vinnie kept 'wiping' his nose, if that's what you can call it.That's not a big deal...Vinny is always wiping his nose I've noticed. However, the cold thing was how the flu I had a month or so ago started.

But I like to think it is a Conspiracy...I never like to let the facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory :p
