This is a serious question. I truly would like to understand the rational DEM's have. It is something that has bothered me, I've struggled with the reasoning behind some Democrats view point.

The Democrats are against Iraq. Yet they voted for it. In public they denounce it every chance they can. Yet when it comes time to vote, they vote to support it. Two years ago, Democrats promise to get us out of Iraq. Their public stance was quite clear. Yet they still vote for it's support?

The patriot act, publicly Democrats are against it. When it comes time to vote, they vote for it. They supported it in the beginning, privately they still support it. Wire tapping overseas calls. publicly Democrats are against it. When they vote, they vote for it.

For the last two years, the Democrats have controlled both the House and the Senate. Yet, what they have demonized publicly, they have quietly voted for the support.

How as a Democrat do you rationalize the leadership of the party?

It's called playing politics. If it goes well, come election time they don't want to look unpatriotic and anti-military. They can vote for it all the while saying they are opposed to it. It's the "I was for it before I was against it" syndrome.

Republicans have filibustered like 76 times, and Bush would veto anything he doesn't agree with.

So, you are saying the Dem's vote for it because Bush will veto it?

maybe, sometimes, a bill will actually have things in it that the Dem's agree with or want to pass it. Sometimes, it is a compromise that you vote for it if it has a project in it that you support (i.e. pork) unfortunately. Maybe...?

Isn't it the Vote that really matters? If an individual asked for your vote, told you he was for same sex marraige (something you are for) yet each time it came up, he voted against it. Would you still support him?

''Same sex marraige is just an example, I have no idea how you feel about the subject.''

Because they're spineless hypocrites?

Ding Ding Ding and I think Bach touched on it as well because they don't want to look unpatriotic or against the military with a big election cycle on the horizon.

and again, just look at the Bailout bill, and how people changed their vote after pork as added. I doubt all those that voted in favor of it were in favor of the Bailout.

Not sure why Viper just didn't post the answer himself since that's what he was getting at anyway.

Do you think this is so, or are they not watching how their representatives are truly voting.

Seriously, I had read that the patriot act was a bill written by Democrats.

They added on an additional $150 Billion (not counting the already added pork to the initial 700) in order to sugar coat it for the senate to pass.

So that does come into play.

But the biggest part is the idea that they would look unpatriotic so close to an election cycle.

As Viper points out one of the rallying cries was to end this situation and that was why many voted them in over their republican counterparts in the last election. This also explains why they have an approval rating lower than the presidents right now.

People are mad because they basically show no spine.

Well, aren't they suppose to vote for their constituency? If the people are crying out enough, then maybe they'll change their minds. I hate the mentality of "rub my back I'll rub yours" we have, too, unfortunately. It is hypocritical if they say "read my lips, No more taxes" or whatever, and the first thing they do is create more taxes. They just pander to get the votes, which is sad.

Actually, I was wonder if it was like when I watch the Cowboys. The Damn Ref's are always calling penalties on us. Letting the other team get away with the same stuff. Of course this is a bad anology cause it's true:D

On a serious note, have we picked a side. Blind to our own, yet ready to jump on the other team.

Right now, I'm so disgusted by both sides. They are playing us against one another, while they load thier pockets with our cash.

cause I'm a commie?:D

Actually, I consider myself a moderate. I'm not sure I'll vote for McCain, I may just vote locally.

Both parties have stances that I support. I believe in welfare, not life time welfare but something there to help when one is down. I would like to see everyone have health care, but don't have the answer there.

Trickle down economics could work, if cooperations getting the tax breaks didn't take the jobs overseas.

I agree, the Democrats are just as weak and spineless as Republicans.

However, I do believe that the atmosphere was alot different when that vote went down. During that time, any criticism of George Bush or any vote against war was seen as unpatriotic and unamerican.

I forget the one represenative that voted against the Iraq War who got lambasted for it. I believe Bill O'Reilly stated that that congressman/woman should be removed for office, or something along those lines.

Might have been Ron Paul...they call him Dr. No because he usually votes against many things.

Might be her as well now that you mention it.

Don't know if some know or not but she is now running for President for the Green party.

Could have been any number of people since a full 1/3 of the House voted against the measure, a fact that is often lost on the "there was unanimous support for the invasion of Iraq " crowd.

My main man Kookie and Wa state representative Jim McDermott were among them.
