View Full Version : Interesting Witten stat I found
I was doing some research on Novacek, and discovered that he is tied with Doug Cosbie for the career lead in 100-yard performances by tight ends in Cowboys history.
Each of them had four.
Witten has two through nine games this year, and nearly had a third (was 3 yards short in a performance).
Unless I misinterpreted the statistic, that is pretty amazing IMO. I realize we have never really utitlized the tight end quite like Witten has been used this season, so the stat can be skewed a little, but it's still pretty impressive.
On the other hand, there's a reason why we're using the tight end so much more this year. And his name is Jason Witten.

Jason Witten is my hero. Those Volunteers know how to breed them tight ends.

Pretty cool stat. I really like this kid. I think he's got great character on top of being a great football player. I still can't believe we got him in the 3rd round. Steal of the draft.
Not to mention he is on pace to shatter the Cowboys TE receptions record of 68 by Jay Novachek.
Pretty amazing.
It is nice when someone finally lives up to their hype for once on the Cowboys.

no kidding. didn't indy trade up to take the first TE selected in that draft? dallas clark is OK - but witten is the bomb. can you imagine jason in that offense? thank God he fell to the cowboys.

To be honest, Jason Witten and Dallas Clark are very similar players.
I'm a huge Witten fan though . . . seeing how he came from the real UT.

.
yeah, they both play TE. end of similarity. manning would make jason a league superstar. i don't hear dallas clark mentioned in ANY conversations regarding top TEs.

Witten in the 3rd or Clark in the first? Easy call. I think Witten is clearly the better all around TE right now and has more upside. Clark has 43 catches in his career. Witten may double that this year.
All I have to say is Thank God Philly took LJ Smith and not Witten.

Do you consider the University of Tennessee "the real UT" over the University of Texas because it was founded at an earlier date? It certainly can't be because of academics or athletics.

the thing that stands out about dallas clark is that he averages 23.7 yards per catch. he only has 14 receptions thru 9 games and 5 TDs. indy can spread the field like few other teams can do. i can't imagine a healthy novacek with 14 receptions at this point in the season. clark is obviously not a peyton-go-to-guy. nuff said.
Imagine if Witten had started the whole season instead of being backup for a while

Witten was listed as the best overall talent at TE in that particular draft.

Nothing against Witten, I think he's among the best in the game, but he wouldn't see nearly the amount of action in an offense with Harrison, Wayne, Edgerrin James, and Stokley.
We can't run the ball and our best (only) wide receiver is slower than Jason. :(

Witten was the biggest steal of the draft and I was hoping we'd get him but knew that if we didn't use our first round pick on him that he'd be gone...lucky us. Now the other TE's drafted ahead of him certainly aren't bad at all and are part of better offenses but I wouldn't trade Witten for any of them, also remember Witten is only like 21 or 22....many years of ahead of him if he can stay healthy.

Even without a complimentary #2 WR, imagine how really lethal Witten would be if we had a running game???
Witten's development is going to be vital to Hensen's development in 2005.
I think WR is going to be a bigger issue in 2005 than I originally thought. But it's nice knowing we're going to have a solid TE corps in Witten and Campbell.

I agree.
Prior to the start of the season I didn't give Hos' any credence for his desire of Mike Williams (as a player... not as something else ;) ) but now I can see the point.
We need another WR... badly.

I agree...as much as I love witten...chances are he would not be getting the number of catches in Indy with that offense....does not mean he is not better then Dallas Clark...and who knows maybe Dallas Clark would be putting up similar numbers to Witten if he was playing for the cowboys.
The big difference however is that we got Witten in the 3rd round...while Indy took Dallas Clark in the first round instead of getting a defensive player in the first round to help that Defense.

Well, I'm not Swat, but I have an answer for you. I think that T. U. is just another Texas University.
Of course, I'm an Aggie and have a skewed view of the whole situation.
