I've been playing around with this electoral map. Each state you click on gives you the poll numbers in the lower right. It has all the states that appear to be safe to one side or the other already in their columns and gray to the states that are still considered tossups.

Click once to turn red and twice to turn blue.

From this map, it appears that Obama only has to win one of 6 tossups to put him over the top.

Still though, we've got some time left.

Obama would be stupid to not act like he's 10 points down.

I could see McCain pulling out all but Nevada. I just do not see Nevada going red.

If that happens according to that map it will be a 269-269 tie......then what happens?

I'm on the MoveOn email list and I keep getting panicked emails from them about how McCain will win if they don't keep doing whatever it is that they do... registering dead people or whatever, I guess. :D

It goes to the newly elected House of Representatives, with each state's delegation getting a single vote. Since Democrats hold majorities in a majority of states, Obama becomes president. (Though not without weeks of yelling and screaming about how reps should vote against their party for this reason or that reason).

Well you said the newly elected House of Reps. Doesn't the current House have the lowest approval rating in history? That leads me to believe the Repubs would take the house over?

There's been a lot written about that... and I think some of those articles have been posted in this forum.

There's a scenario in which, if there's a tie, Obama would end up as President and Palin would be Vice President with Cheney casting the tie-breaking vote in the Senate to decide it.

It's convoluted, but as I said, there's been a lot written on it.

Here's one such article, but there are many scenarios... if you google Electoral Tie you can find many.

OMG...could you just imagine the uproar that would cause?

Cheney picking the next President!

It's a foregone conclusion that Democrats will gain seats in the House and Senate. Has been that way for months. The only question is how many will they gain.

The thing is... If a tie happens McCain will win more states. Each state gets 1 House vote. That means that some Representatives will have to go against how their state voted which is very unpopular.

It also brings Maine and Nebraska into play seeing how they have a possibility of splitting electoral votes. Obama has the possibility of getting an electoral vote from Nebraska's 2nd congressional district which includes the city of Omaha. McCain has a possibility at Maine's 2nd congressional district as well.

The House of Representatives gives each state delegation one vote and they pick the President themselves.

Since the majority of the House is Democrates, it would be a pretty safe assumption that Obama would be selected the President.

Not exactly right... Read the post above your last. If there is a tie, McCain has definitely won more states. That means there will be 4 or 5 states where the Representatives have to go against their states' popular vote in order for Obama to win. That will leave a lot of unhappy citizens in those states.
