LONDON: Former British foreign secretary David Owen warned on Sunday that Israel could attack Iran in the near future. In an article in The Sunday Times, he wrote that some key decision makers in Israel were convinced that it was the most suitable time to attack Iran when Bush was in office.

“Some key Israel decision makers fear unless they attack Iranian nuclear enrichment facilities in the next few months, while George W Bush is still president, there will not be another period when they can rely on the United States as being anywhere near as supportive in the aftermath of a unilateral attack,” he said.

So for youguys not wanting war, you may be out of luck either way. Vote McCainin and sooner or later, vote Obama in and sooner rather then later.

I have heard this so often I no longer believe it, but thought I would post this as it lends credence to my supposition that Obama will pull out of Iraq and piss off our ally Isreal and embolden our enemy Iran. Isreal wants to know we have her back. I think its important for peace in the region all parties know they have it unconditionally. Obama would undermine that and the stability in the region as a result.

Just somethiing to chew on on your way to vote.

As for what this means, OIL. THis is what its al aout - Foreign policy should be the main point in this election - some things to consider along this line.

Straits of Hormuz is a key focal point in this battle. It would be shut down before the first shots fired. Making oil prices go through the roof. You though 147 was expensive.

Consider these:

1)No tanker owner is going to risk a vessel worth tens of millions of dollars.
2)No insurance company is going to allow a vessel it is insuring, to leave dock and steam into a war zone.
3)Modern tankers are really, really big (about .5 kilometer), and can have drafts up to 80 feet (25 meters). Making them easy targets.
4)The navigable part of the Strait is really narrow and really shallow.
5)You don't even have to sink a tanker in the strait to shut it down. Just park one in the center full of oil, and dare anyone to shoot at it. A giant flaming oil slick tends to deter people.
6)You don't need to shut the straits forever. Just close it long enough to send the price of oil high enough to crash a couple of economies.
7)The Iranians actually have weapons of their own, and got to watch how we used ours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
8)Naval mines are cheap and easy to use.
9)If you **** them off enough, they can target the Saudi oil facilities with their missiles. (Remember how hard it was to find Saddam's Scud launchers?)

I am not a pacifist, nor do I give a damn if you kill everyone in the middle east. Jew, Arab or Persian means nothing to me. However, using a few brain cells wouldn't hurt, especially before the shooting starts. Anyone consider that we have been using the strategic oil reserve because of the hurricanes?

You guys need to look at the bigger picture. OIL. Thats what this whole mideast/terrorist thing is about. Oil is your lifeblood. Without it, our whole way of life changes, Everything in your house/car/office and the world is touched by oil. Everything!

This is why Obama and his terrorist/shady connections should be a greater issue. McCain will back Isreal unconditionally, stabilizing that whole region, allowing for a continued flow of oil. Obama will cause havok in that area, just by winning.

Maybe I am paranoid, but this is a huge deal in my mind. The Isreal/mideast thing. This is why I have spouted a Strong America is essential.
