View Full Version : Roy Williams must lose weight in the offseason

Like I have been saying for two years now- Roy Williams must lose 10-15lbs in the offseason this year.
He is slow to react in pass coverage and is not as fast as we would like in man to man coverage either.

There is a blurb on the cbs web site that reiterates this point.

We will be counting on Roy for next year - he will not be the player we expected unless he improves his speed and quickness.

He looks and plays like a linebacker at the safety position- he hits like a hammer but he covers like a stone footed neanderthal.

Roy is out of position at FS

He is a SS that is better used in the box. He's a hitter, blitzer.

His career is being wasted away at FS. You don't draft FS's at #8. I can get you a starter all day every day in the second round.

I saw him in person during his rookie season and then again twice last season....NO WAY he was the same weight and it looks likes he's even heavier this season...

Parcells tabbed him with the nickname "biscuit" for a reason...

I do agree that moving him to SS would help...but he's still too heavy...

I couldn't agree more with that statement. Roy is a SS. BP was asked this question before the year started and he stated that the FS in Zimmer's scheme is really a SS. I don't see it. They should make the move in the off-season and draft a FS.

Juke are you saying that Ed Reed is a far better safety than Roy Williams?

Is that what you are really saying?

:D

One plays in a good defensive scheme, the other does not.

One is making a lot of turnovers, the other is not.

Roy is doing what he is told in a wuss 4-3 cover 2 defense. Terrible

You tell him Nors.. :)

Darn Winicki needs everything spelled out for him...

He thinks Reed is vastly superior to Williams...he's PM'ed me ALL season saying so.

LOL!

I was just answering your PM's... you know the ones where you kept hounding me, trying to get me to admit that Hutch was better than Quincy.

You know the ones... ;)

Reed is a great player who plays well in a outstandingly coached system....

Roy is well...a SS trying to become a good player who sucks now because he is being forced to play FS for some unknown reason?

How much does zimmy WUSS weigh?
Thats how much weight our D needs to lose to become DOOMSDAY again! :)

I know they are PM's and all...but...

Hey Juke,

Can you believe how much better Reed is than Roy Williams?
I think Wiley is going to be great for us this season, at least 15 sacks!
I can't believe that the Titans let a great back like Eddie
George go...I am psyched that we signed him.
Anyway, I just wanted to email you to let you know that
I don't think Roy Williams can carry Ed Reed's jock.

Signed,

Oh come'on!

You know I didn't write that!

Don't we usually write "love" at the end of all of our correspondence?

I'm so hurt now... :(

Well...yeah....but I think this PM came after the one where you got ticked off at me because I wouldn't agree with you that Dedric Ward was better than Randy Moss.

You know I do remember that now...

I was POed because you had said your favorite owner was Daniel Snyder...

No, that's not entirely accurate...we were having a discussion about football franchise owners...then we moved to owners in general...and YOU said you liked Daniel Snyder better than Reality.

Could it be that Roy is gaining weight to possibly play in our supposed 3-4 next year. You wonder how he would be at LB.

He couldn't be any worse than he is at safety which is godawful.

He doesn't have the speed or instincts to play deep. He is a poor man's Steve Atwater.

I would trade RW for a first rounder in a heartbeat right now if there are any takers.

Besides Tony Dixon, Roy might be the worst cover safety in the NFL.

No... I thought I said that Snyder simply had more money than Realty--- because you were complaining that Reality is too cheap to pay someone as brilliant as yourself for all your insights and the vast contributions you bring to this board and how a smart business man like Snyder wouldn't make the same mistake.

Roy has no choice this year but to play FS. Do you really want Tony Dixon or Lynn Scott calling coverages in the backfield?

I think Roy should lose some weight. But at the same time, Roy needs to be put back at SS, where he can succeed. Hopefully that will be fixed in the offseason and they pick up a solid FS.

Make Roy the SS,

On 3-4 looks stand him up as the 4th LB.
Draft the Texas LB and now we start to scare offenses. They are laughing at our wuss 4-3 cover 2 with Dixon and Roy in coverage.

2nd round perhaps? We don't have the 3rd which would be more ideal...

Here I am already talking about trading down in the 1st for more ammo. Shame on me.
